I Set the Oven on Fire

I love Saturdays so much.

Started the morning with the best smoothie: blueberries, raspberries, half a banana, plain Greek yogurt and a splash of almond milk.

I caught up on some blogs, watched a few YouTube videos and thenΒ got ready to head out to the mall. Cecil helped me pick out my makeup for the day.

Eventually I headed outΒ to the mall to meet a friend for a bit of a splurge at Sephora and Ulta.

You could say I walked out with a few things.

Last weekend I had picked up the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea H20 moisturizer. I really liked it a lot, but it did not play well with my primer so I had to exchange it. I picked up the Tarte cleansing gelΒ which is ah-mazing.

I have been using the Burt’s Bees cleaning oil, which I like A LOT, but the oil burns my eyes a bit. The Burt’s Bees cleanser gets my waterproof mascara off faster than the Tarte product, but the Tarte one doesn’t burn at all which makes it the winner for me.

Last week I had also purchased the Tarte Amazonian Clay translucent powder and I’m literally in love with it, so this week I decided to get the Amazonian Clay foundation. I’ll let you know how it goes. If it’s half as good as the translucent powder it’s going to quickly become my favorite!

I also grabbed a Becca blush in Songbird, an Anastasia lipgloss in dusty rose and a trial size of the Better Than Sex waterproof mascara. I’m still looking for the perfect waterproof mascara. The Smashbox one holds up to my watery eyes but I hate the brush, I think it makes my eyelashes totally clumpy.

At Ulta I picked up a few new Pacifica items.

They were sold out of my beloved Coconut Water wipes so I’m giving the Super Detox ones a try. They do not smell nearly as good as the Coconut Water ones but they’ll work for now.

I used the Glow Baby scrub yesterday in the shower and it made my face so soft and smooth. I immediately made Adam touch my face and he agreed it was extra soft :).

After shopping I headed out for a run in super summery weather: blazing hot and way too humid.

I forgot my Adidas 3Matic sunglasses which was a shame because the sun was right in my eyes every time I moved out from under the shade of a tree. (Enter to win a pair of the 3Matic sunglasses HERE.)

heat is at an 8/10 today but it feels kind of good?! πŸ˜…β˜€οΈ#run

My calves were really tight during this run. I kept having to stop and stretch them every few minutes. My hamstrings were also pretty tight. I definitely spent extra time last night stretching everything out while watching NXT Takeover with Adam!

Hopefully today will be a better Sunday than last week. I can’t believe I forgot to tell you this, but last Sunday I set my oven on fire.

I was trying to bake a banana bread which is something I have never done before. I guess I filled the tin too high and it overflowed… a lot.

Adam goes, “do you smell smoke?”

We went to the kitchen, saw smoke coming out of the over, opened the door and saw FLAMES. Luckily we have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen which Adam was able to grab quickly to put the fire out.

Unfortunately when we opened the over door all of the smoke poured out into the kitchen and literally within seconds it was so thick we could barely see. Cecil instinctively ran upstairs into the office. We closed him in there where he was safe and went around opening all the doors and windows.

The fire alarms were blaring and because the Nest alarms are too smart for their own good they wouldn’t let us override the alarm and turn them off. They kept saying, “smoke levels too high, cannot turn off” or something like that. I’m sure the neighbors were thrilled with all the noise.

When the smoke finally cleared I had quite a clean up job to do. There was a thick layer of soot over literally everything in the kitchen. I can live with that though, I’m just glad that nothing worse happened.

Seeing how quickly smoke engulfed the kitchen made me realize just how fast a fire could become life threatening. Our fire was very small and super contained within the oven and yet it still produced SO MUCH SMOKE. The whole thing was really eye opening and scary.

Also I will never try to bake again.

Oh no that sounds terrible! Im glad you guys caught it early and everyone is ok. My sister’s fiancΓ©’s mom’s house burned down a few months ago. Luckily no one was hurt but its just awful.

Oh no, I am really sorry to hear that. I can only imagine what it’s like to rebuild after such a big disaster. Thank God everyone was alright though!

Don’t give up on baking! As we chatted about, just make sure to put your baking pans on a cookie sheet “just in case”. It’s a bummer that happened because instead of a house filled with yummy banana bread baking smell (one of the best in my opinion) it was smoke πŸ™ I hope you had a great Sunday.

I will never, ever, ever forget your tip to put down a cookie sheet. That’s now up there with some of the best life advice I’ve ever received!

That is SO scary. I’m glad the aftermath was just soot cleanup and you are all okay. As you know, a fire in my home is one of my biggest fears! πŸ™

Oh I know, me too! It was a nightmare coming to life. It also made me even more terrified of fires because I didn’t realize the smoke would spread so fast. Now I am even more worried/scared.
