I Signed Up for a 5K!

Next month something is going to happen that has not happened since December 2014: I am going to race a 5K!

I earned my current PR at the Jingle Bell Jog when I crossed the finish line in 37:57 (12:12/mi). I took the best race photo ever that day.

I should have this picture framed.Β

I don’t anticipate a PR next month, but I am going to push hard to see where I am at right now since it’s been a very long time since I’ve pushed to run 5K as fast as possible. If I remember correctly, racing a 5K kind of hurts, but I’m looking forward to it! πŸ™‚

I’ll be running the Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot. I’ve wanted to do this race for the last couple of years but never actually signed up. Honestly,Β I have never wanted to pressure myself to wake up early on a Thursday when I don’t have to πŸ˜€ However, this year I want to have the allure of a finish line to push me forward so it’s time to race my first Turkey Trot!

If Thanksgiving is right around the corner, that can only mean one thing: Adam’s bday!

He turned 32 years old on Wednesday! We started dating when he had just turned 20. Way back then I couldn’t have even begun to imagine what our lives would be like in the year 2016, but I’m so happy to still be celebrating birthdays with him.

Our anniversary is coming up soon too: 12 years!!!! The best 12 years of my life. I feel so lucky to have met someone who is my perfect other half <3.

Are you running a Turkey Trot this year?Β

  1. Sam @ grapefruit & granola

This will be the first year that I’m not traveling on Thanksgiving and I will be doing my first turkey trot! Should be interesting since I haven’t really seriously run in a while and I will be on vacation for a week prior to that. But we’ll see!

Happy birthday to Adam and happy anniversary to you both!

I have a race picked out that’s Dec 3rd — it’s not really a turkey trot, it’s more of a Reindeer Dash situation — I’m not sure if I’m running it yet… but I’m really heavily considering it!

It’s been 12 days since I crossed the finish line of my first ever marathon — and I don’t want to lose any running fitness!

I’m going to do a turkey trot! I have done the Runners World RunStreak the past two years, where you run at least one mile every day from Thanksgiving to New Years. I love having a race to kick it off, so I’ll be earning that extra slice of pie! I’m not expecting anything close to a PR but holiday races are so much fun.

  4. Aubrey

I’m going to be running my first one this year! I’ve always wanted to do a turkey trot and I’m finally not traveling this year. It’s actually part of a 3 month/ 3 holiday run thing that I wanted to do. My Halloween run is tomorrow, Turkey trot on Thanksgiving, and the a reindeer run right before Christmas. πŸ™‚

  5. Karen

I hope you have a fun race! Push hard and see what shakes out πŸ™‚ It is good gauge to see where you are speed wise. i don’t run 5K’s often. They do hurt lol My last one i pushed to the point of almost puking lol
That is wonderful to have the perfect other half πŸ™‚

  6. Kerry

Good luck in your 5K!! I think 5Ks are the hardest distance. I do more suffering in three miles than I did running the 50K. I’ve never done a turkey trot, but I certainly would like to. My birthday is on Thanksgiving this year, so it wont be then. Frank and I are planning another trip out west for that week!

Yay for signing up for a 5k! Yes, they do suck. But they’re over fast!

I hope you enjoy your 5k! I think 5ks are such a great way to just enjoy a run with little pressure and a lot of fun!

You two have been together for a while! Congrats and Happy Birthday to Adam!
We run a casual 5K race in our neighborhood on Thanksgiving morning and then we all run a few miles at a local park together as a family. It’s a great way to start out our day of eating a lot!!
I think you will have a good time at your turkey trot!!

I love a good turkey trot to motivate me to do something active on a holiday we celebrate by eating a lot! They’re usually lower pressure, so I have more of a realistic goal, which may or may not incorporate weather elements (like slush or snow) rather than an all-out PR.
