I went for a run!

As you know, last Wednesday was my last real run before hip tightness took over my life.

On Monday of this week I ran one mile on the treadmill just to see if it would make things any worse and it didn’t seem to make a difference. My hip was still tight, but no more tight than it was after a few days of rest.

I took another complete rest day on Tuesday and simply focused on stretching out my hip really good.

Yesterday I woke up and my hip felt decent so I went for a three mile run down by the beach after work.

I cannot properly express in words how good it felt to run again (but I’ll try). I felt energized, de-stressed, happy and alive! It was only three miles but they were good miles!

I knew Adam would be getting home late so I hung around the beach and watched the moon rise.

When I got home I stretched and stretched some more.

My hip is still tight but I can feel an improvement. There were a couple of nights that it was so tight and sore that I couldn’t even bare to sleep on my side but that’s no longer the case.

It bothers me the worst when I sit for too long, which is a blessing in disguise I suppose since it reminds me to get up and walk around more often than I normally would!

Jen over at Running on Lentils had a similar hip issue a while ago (she also couldn’t sleep on her side). She recommended this Yin Yoga DVD saying that she did it daily until the pain was gone, which took about a week for her. Passing along the link for anyone who might be interested!

I hope you’re having a great week… and if you’re not, the weekend is in sight 🙂

What’s the weather like by you? Is it warming up?

I hope that you get good news from your doctor! However, I have found that doctors are more focused on a diagnosis/making sure nothing is seriously wrong like a fracture or labral tear…but the PTs and chiros are the ones who will really help you to dig deeper and figure out the root of the problem. As you know, its been a long journey for me but I am finally figuring it all out. If you need to vent about it at all feel free to E-mail me!

That’s good if it’s resolving some that quickly. I do know how good it feels to run again after a break – I never smiled so much in my life as I did at Disney lol

So happy your hip is feeling a little bit better! I am always so jealous of your beach running pictures… It looks so beautiful!

So glad you were able to fit in a run. Sometimes I think the mental aspect of not being able to exercise, like destressing, is worse than the physical aspect. The weather is warming up in NC and I’m super happy about it!

I’m glad to hear you can run again. It’s so frustrating to be injured, but I guess it’s good that you’re between training cycles. Yin yoga is great for helping tightness, but I get crazy sore after I do it (probably means I need to do it more). I hope you continue to feel better!

I’m glad to hear that your hip was feeling good enough to run again. I’m sure it felt great to be out there after a few days off.

Very good news. Love the pictures..

Uhg don’t get me started on warming up. Its been in the 90’s this week. My run on Wednesday was at 400am and it was 75 outside.

Yay!! Hopefully it will just keep getting better from here and that yoga dvd will help. I should invest in something like that too, stretching your hips is SO important in running and I don’t do it enough. We had a heat wave the past couple weeks but now it seems to be back to normal – sunny and 75 and just how I like it 🙂

Glad to hear that your hip is slowly getting better and that you are able to run again. Three miles is three more miles than you were able to do in the days prior, so progress is good! it looks absolutely beautiful there. What are the temperatures like (highs and lows) during the spring months? We had some really nice weather for a few weeks, but unfortunately this week has been rather wintery. I just want summer to be here already!!!

Woohoo! I know that feeling of not being able to run for a few days and then getting out there. It is great! Hope you are still riding high on endorphins. 🙂 I am also glad you are seeing significant improvement in your hip. Your stretching and resting must really be paying off. My knee has been bothering me badly the past two days and I don’t know why. It had been feeling noticably better for awhile but last night it felt just like it did when I was in the throws of my knee woes. I lifted today and did my exercises. Hopefully it will improve.

I am so bad at taking the time to stretch! I know I’m tempting fate, but it’s so hard to make the time.

Glad you’re feeling better. There’s,nothing like an awesome run to make you feel superhuman!

Awesome news on the run! Keep up the great work, Kristina.

I love yin yoga. My PT doesn’t always like the poses I get into but I try to find a good balance between stretching and her “restrictions” on my 🙂

The weather in Colorado has been so wonderful. Today we finally got rain (ran/snow) which we need since it is so dry. I am not sure if we are done for snow this year or not. March is actually our snowiest month (April is second, I think) which often surprises people. I am just happy I can run outside. Running inside is not anything like getting fresh air.

I was wondering if you crossed train on the days you don’t run? If I ever can’t run, then I walk, swim, and cycle. It does help a bit (even though I want running to be in the mix).

Sorry to hear about your hip. I hope it starts to feel better. The picture of the moon rise is absolutely gorgeous!

Glad to hear your hip is feeling better! You look really happy in that photo 🙂 I’ll have to check out that yin DVD. When my hip was bothering me, I also found it hurt the most when I slept on it or sat for too long. Looks like we have some rehabbing to do.

  15. April 2, 2015 / 7:44 pm

I’m glad that you were able to run – always helpful!!!
I hope that the yoga helps with the tightness.
And – I hope that your stress with work is lessening some.

Glad you got a run in & that it was amazing! I hope the DVD helps you. It really helped me & I still do it once a week. Oh, and my hip was the same in that running didn’t make it worse, but it pretty much hurt all the time.

Being able to run again always feels like Christmas morning, your birthday, and Thanksgiving all rolled into one. YAY!

  18. April 3, 2015 / 7:28 pm

That’s awesome that you are able to get back to running! I’ve been having hip issues too. Seems to be going around cause I have a few friends that have been having the same issues recently. weird right?

  19. April 4, 2015 / 10:26 am

I love how amazing a run feels after being forced to take some time off! I’m so glad you had a good 3-miler. It must be frustrating to not really know what’s going on, but I’m glad that it’s beginning to feel better.
