If We Went on a Run Together…

On Thanksgiving I had the kind of run that just made me feel really grateful for everything I have in life.

I know the beach isn’t for everyone, but it is my happy place and the fact that I get to run at the beach six days a week is something I’m really thankful for.

I don’t always get down there early enough to watch the sunrise, but I did on Thursday and I really want to share the experience with you! I ended up taking a few snaps throughout my five miler in the nice cool morning air.

Welcome to Fort Lauderdale Beach! 🙂

Watching the sun start to peek up over the horizon is really amazing.

And when the rays start to spread out across the sky it’s really something.

As you can imagine the run really flies by while you’re being treated to such a gorgeous show!

If you ever come visit me we would definitely go for a run at sunrise… or if you have a dog we would go for a stroll during the weekend when part of the beach opens up to doggies.

I just learned that dog fact because…. well that’s a post for another day when plans are more solid!

Did you know that greyhounds are athletes that take their retirement very seriously? They sleep up to 17 hours a day making them great dogs for people who live in condos. They tend to get along well with other animals, including cats (very important), they are good dogs for people with allergies, and they can reach speeds up to 40mph in just 6 steps!

Gotta love those speedy runners.

Usain Bark would be a fitting name, right? 😉

How was your Thanksgiving?

If you did a Turkey Trot, how did it go??

PS:

Today I have to send a big congrats to Marie Alessandra and Ali on becoming MARATHONERS!!!!!

Glad you had a great Thanksgiving! Your morning run looks beautiful and scenic. One of my favorite things is running when we’re at the Outer Banks on vacation every year. Living in the Midwest makes me appreciate the ocean view, and it’s one of the few things that will get me out of bed for a morning run 😉

Excited to hear about your possible new family member!

I love the idea of living somewhere like Colorado or Oregon, but now that I’ve experienced beach living I don’t know if I could give it up! It’s definitely the top motivating factor for me when my alarm goes off at 4:30am!

Our possible new family member is a total sweetie!

The beach is one of my favorite places to run, for sure. I was in Ft Lauderdale for my bachelorette party 2 years ago and loved it! I only ran once but it seemed like such a great area for running!

That’s so cool that you had your bachelorette party in Fort Lauderdale! It really is a great place to run if you’re by the beach, especially in my area. Further north of me you can get direct access to the main beach but the bridge is much bigger, haha!

Sooo prettty! Those Greyhounds are so cute (they were my school mascot). Thanks for the FL running tour 🙂

Thank you! The greyhounds are soooooo cute and so sweet. I can’t wait to see them again in a couple of weeks when we go back to the rescue center! We’ve got our eye on one guy in particular who was such a sweetie!

I would love to go on a sunrise run on the beach with you! I’m a big beach fan too – I don’t know if I’d want to live there, but I enjoy a good beach visit every now and then! It’s 18 degrees in Wisconsin today so I’m especially jealous of you.

The real challenge would be getting myself up that early…woof!

Thanksgiving was good for us, we went to Iowa to visit my family. I’m sad to be back. Ugh. Post-vacay blues are a real thing!

Eighteen degrees!!!! I watched the game yesterday and was wondering how fans could stand to be out there in the freezing cold for that long! I’m not really a big alcohol drinker, but I’d have to drink a few beers just to warm up!

Yay you are getting a Great Dane!!! I didn’t realize they slept for so long. So I am guessing your pup is going to go running with you?? 🙂

Yes! A retired greyhound! The one we’ve got our eye on was such a sweetie. He retired from the track earlier this year due to a paw injury, so we’re waiting to hear back from the vet on what possible long-term issues might arise from that.

I want to teach him to run with me, although greyhounds are sprinters not endurance runners. The lady at the rescue said I could probably get a greyhound to run 2 or 3 miles with me but after that I’d be at risk of needing to carry the doggie home, haha. Apparently when they poop out they will just “statue” and stop moving completely!

I have been Google’ing like crazy though and I came across a forum where someone said he got his greyhound to run five milers with him, and another person said with some coaxing she got her greyhound to run a marathon with her. I hope we adopt one that will run 3-5 miles with me since that’s my usual nightly run distance. Because the big guy we’ve got our eye on has a paw injury, he might not be The One… we’ll see!

Our target adoption date isn’t until the week after Christmas since we’ll both be home from work then!

I think so! We’ve got our eye on a retired greyhound! He’s a speedy guy so I think when i take him out for a run he’ll think we’re just going for a brisk walk 😉 haha

First time I have ever been on your blog and the first pics I see is the beach in Florida. Makes me want to move back down there. When I lived there I never did much running and i really regret it.
I was sick for my turkey trot and had to jog it out. 5 miles in 43 minutes. Not even close to a PR or what I would normally run

It’s such a great place to run, except for the heat/humidity that sticks around for the majority of the year! I guess you kind of get used to it … sort of ;).

Great job on the turkey trot! That’s an impressive time for just jogging it out!!

  8. Kim

Oh, thank you for sharing those pictures – running on the beach is one of my happy places, too and doing it at sunrise is even better. I needed that little boost right then because I just learned that one of my favorite bloggers brought her husband home from the hospital on full hospice care this weekend:(
