If You Like Piña Coladas…

Guess what today is? The last Monday before Adam and I leave on vacation! WHOO! This time next week I’ll be in a bathing suit sipping a piña colada* without a worry in the world!

* If you’re reading this at 6am then I probably won’t be sipping a piña colada this time next week ;).

The countdown until vacation is on, but let’s rewind back to the beginning of last weekend for a little bit. Adam and I had tickets to the Miami Dolphins scrimmage on Friday night at FIU Stadium which was so much fun!

As season ticket holders we got to sit in the front row which was pretty awesome, AND I got to wear my new top!

I’m so happy that football is back! Our defensive line looks ridiculously good. If our offensive line can hold its own, we can be really good this year. Of course, every year I think the Dolphins are going to be really good and then we fall apart right at the end … but not this year! It’s our year, I can feel it!

(Sorry Cheryl, but the Dolphins are taking the division this year! Your pats will have to support us in the playoffs this time around!)

Other than football related activities I went over to my mom’s place and helped her put together some furniture on Saturday. Her kitty, Georgie, has definitely settled in and is feeling at home:

^ He’s such a cutie!

Of course I have my own sleepy cat at home:

After my run yesterday this little boy cuddled up with me on the couch and we didn’t move for … hours. My legs, feet, hips and butt are all feeling the effects of being deep in marathon training. Despite all of that I am deliriously happy to be inching closer to Chicago!

I can hardly believe that I am going to run marathon number TWO. It really wasn’t that long ago that I could barely run one mile and now I’m taking on 26.2 again. That’s so freakin cool!

I had a good week of running although my right knee is still bothering me after I run. I can also now feel a knot in my right glute, so my coach has advised me to get a sports massage this week. The great news is that nothing hurts during the actual run so I think what I’m experiencing is just some tightness in a few different areas of my body.

I catch you up on my week of running in my latest vlog:

I also included a running Q&A at the end – with a couple of non-running questions thrown in. I hope you like the video!

Have a great Monday and we’ll talk again soon!

If I were coming to your city and could only run one race which one would you recommend?
– Trying to get a head start on 2016 race planning 😉

That’s cool that you guys have season Dolphins tickets. We have the Panthers here but I usually only go to a game or two.

Ohhh I think the Dolphins are coming up for a joint practice with the Panthers soon! I bet the weather for your football games in the fall is so much nicer than ours – it’s usually still scorching hot until December – which is just about the end of our season most years, hah!

That is so funny how runners think! Immediately after my first marathon I stuck a 26.2 sticker on my car that Matt had already bought for me when he went to Boston. I kept it hidden until a month later for my first marathon. I was so sad when I had to get rid of my old Honda Civic because it had so many cool running stickers on it. 🙁 Now my new car has two…lol.

Awwww! My 13.1 sticker is actually a magnet so if I ever have to get rid of my car I’ll be able to take it with me. I wanted to get a 26.2 magnet as well but the running store I went to only had stickers and I wanted one ASAP haha. I don’t know why since I still had to fly home before I could even get it on my car … #RunnerLogic 🙂

I got a 13.1 that’s still on my window after my first half 🙂 I need to add the 26.2 one of these days, I will see how this year goes.
Mom’s cat is a cutie too 🙂 and yes, unlimited resources I would have ALL the pets too lol
In VA the Richmond marathon is a huge event in November and the Shamrock in VA Beach is another great race in March.

Thanks for the race recommendations! What is the weather like in March? I wonder if it’s already kind of hot/humid or not too bad?

You’re so lucky that you have a handful of cute kitties. Adam limits me to just Cecil even though I think Cecil would love to have 50 brothers and sisters 😉

Your mom’s cat is so adorable. I’m totally a cat person and would own like 15 of them if it wasn’t for my husband putting his foot down at two. They are all just so fuzzy and cuddly!

Since I live in a tiny town, I’m going to go ahead and adopt the Denver area as my own (I do spend a lot of time there). I really liked the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon in Estes Park. It was part of the vacation races series and they have them at a lot of the big national parks. It also gives you an excuse to go to the mountains!

Ohh I’ve never heard of the vacation race series but I just pulled up the site in another tab – thanks!!

I think running at altitude in Dever along with all of the hills would knock me out, but I love the idea of building up for that kind of race. It would require lots of treadmill runs to get the incline training in, but it would totally be worth it to run in Colorado which looks so beautiful!

I am excited about football season too! It may be a rough start for the Pats, but I think they will rise to the occasion! Season tickets–so jealous!
I am feeling some of the fatigue of marathon training and end of summer madness here…

  6. August 10, 2015 / 9:27 am

Dexter-Ann Arbor run! It was my first half marathon and it is a point to point race, which I think is pretty cool. It actually runs from one city to another and the course winds along a river for a large portion of the race. Or, since you are a football fan, the Big House 5k. It is a 5k through Ann Arbor that ends in the University of Michigan football stadium (though I guess if you aren’t a college football/Wolverine fan that might not be so exciting). I haven’t run that race yet, but it is on my list for next year!

If you were coming the the Harrisburg Area I would definitely recommend any local trail run! It is beautiful here! That being said, if you ever do race near me in PA you have an open invite to our guest room! However, Christmas loves that bed too, but I don’t think you would mind some furry company!

  8. August 10, 2015 / 2:21 pm

It does feel crazy that marathon 2 is right around the corner for you! I bet this time, since you know what to expect, you feel more confident in training.

I have my stickers on my car. I got a new 13.1 to match the 26.2 I bought after Spacecoast. I like the stickers because I’m worried magnets could get stolen!

  9. August 10, 2015 / 11:30 pm

Yay vacation!! I can totally see how you’re going for marathon #2…but still nice to look back and say “I AM AWESOME” lol

The Austin 10/20 is a 10 mile race with 20 bands set up every half mile to play for you while you run. The miles fly by. It’s in April next year which is a great time to visit Texas.

If you were coming to beautiful Pensacola you should totally run The Great Pumpkin Race with me for two reasons: 1) It’s on my birthday and we can runebrate (celebRUNate?) together and 2) it’s going to be my come back race HELL YEAH. lol
