On Tuesday at the strike of noon I signed up to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon 2014!
I have been dreaming about running the Princess Half since before I ran my first 5K and can hardly believe I’m finally signed up! I actually got a little bit emotional when I received my confirmation email just because I’ve been thinking about this moment for so long. It was like waking up on Christmas morning and receiving the gift I’ve been wanting all year.
Not only am I so excited to finally be signed up for this particular half marathon but I am excited to be signed up for a half marathon period. I spent 25 years of my life avoiding running at all costs and now I’m actually signed up for a half and there is a very high percentage change that I’ll cross the finish line – omg!
The highlight of my week was definitely signing up for the Princess Half. My actual runs this week were sub-par at best.
I’ve been so tired since we got back from the cruise. Some nights this week I was in bed by 9:30pm and the nights that I stayed up later I wished I had gone to bed earlier. Today I actually ended up taking a four hour nap!
When I got up it was 6:54 pm which meant I had 6 minutes to decide if I would lace up and head out the door before the sunset or if I would go hit the treadmill later on. The treadmill was an inviting option because I was groggy and could have used the extra time to wake up, but running outside is always so much better. I ended downing a large glass of water, grabbed some energy chews and headed out the door.
In hindsight I probably should have just hit the treadmill. I don’t think I was fully awake until I was about 1.5 miles into the run and by that time negative thoughts were creeping rampantly into my fuzzy brain.
Getting Past Negative Thinking
Honestly though, negative thoughts have been creeping into my brain all week.
You’re tired, let’s cut this short. It’s your first week back from vacation, let’s cut this short. These longer running intervals are hard, let’s cut this short. It’s so hot and humid out, let’s cut this short. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Normally I hit the pavement and the time ticks by while I think about things going on in my life or I run through some of my favorite positive mantras.
I’m looking forward to putting this week behind me and getting back to a more positive mind frame next week! After all, I’ve officially got a half marathon to train for.
