I’m Running a 10K This Weekend!

Put your party hat on, it’s Friday! Yesterday I got to work from home (WFH) which was really nice because Adam also worked from home.

When we WFH together Adam and I sit in separate rooms so we don’t bother each other, but it’s still nice to get up for a stretch and pop my head in to see him!

I went down to the beach for a run both Wednesday and yesterday …it was SO HOT out both days. I’m really over summer right now.

The sun will be the death of me, but at least I’ll leave this world looking at something pretty.

My run last night was really rough. From the second I took my first step I was struggling. My legs felt like they had cinder blocks attached to them. I stopped to stretch. I stopped to send a tweet. I stopped for a drink. I stopped and took a break just to look at the water.

Basically, I took a break every time there was an opportunity – about one per mile. That’s definitely not the way to train for a marathon, but I do feel like I have a little wiggle room since I’m in the taper.

This weekend I’m signed up to run my very first 10K! I know, it’s definitely not ideal to enter a race the week before you run a marathon, but I’ll just be doing this one for fun. When I spoke with my coach I agreed to set an alert on my Garmin that will monitor my pace and tell me if I start running too fast.

I’ve agreed to do nothing faster than marathon pace but I probably won’t even go that “fast.” Now that I’m so close to marathon day I really don’t need to be taking ANY RISKS. I’ll just jog along and enjoy the morning, take a free banana and then cheer on a friend as she completes the half marathon that will be going on at the same time. I’m looking forward to it!

After the race I’ll hightail it home to watch the Dolphins play their London game and then it’s off to birthday experience #1 for Adam! I can’t wait to fill you in on the details 🙂 .

Talk to you again soon! Have a great weekend!

Is it still really hot where you are?
Any exciting plans for the weekend?

Have a great race this weekend! Fall came crashing in here as soon as October 1st hit, and it hasn’t stopped raining. This weekend should be interesting with the effects of the hurricane- not looking forward to running in that!

Thanks Lisa! I hope the hurricane doesn’t mess up your weekend plans too badly. Fingers crossed for you!

I love the peaceful shots of Cecil sporadically throughout the video. 🙂 How long does it take you to drive to the beach? Your building is beautiful, it reminds me of a hotel! I am excited to hear what you’re doing for Adam this weekend! 🙂 The only plans Paul and I have are our niece’s 3rd bday party tomorrow afternoon. I would like to get a long run in before then. Tonight we have a little something to celebrate, so I feel like we should do SOMETHING but I don’t know what!? The only thing that comes to mind is sushi…

My drive to the beach is about 2 minutes depending on if I hit any lights. I could run directly there but I don’t anymore for a couple of different reasons. I used to just run right out my front door to the beach which was really nice, I miss doing that. Maybe I’ll start doing it again one of these days!

Going out for sushi sounds like a good Friday night plan to me. If it’s a date night you can wear your heels 😉

Oh wow 2 minutes is nothing!

We wended up ordering in pizza and cheese fries and watched Colbert. I ate A LOT.

It has cooled down here–to warmer fall temps. 70’s during the day, 50’s or 40’s at night. It is still pretty warm here for fall, but I will take it.
Your apartment building looks so nice!
Have fun with your 10k! Happy early birthday, Adam!

Ooooh that weather sounds perfect! I know in a few months you’ll have those big walls of snow though and I don’t envy that at all ;).

Thanks, I think the 10K will be a lot of fun. Since it’s my first ever 10K it will be an automatic PR!

It is definitely not hot here…it was 45 when I woke up this morning. I’m not complaining at all though because it has been getting up to about 65 everyday and this is probably my favorite weather. 🙂 I have an orchestra concert this weekend, but other than that, not too much going on. Hopefully I’ll get caught up on a bunch of things that have been hanging over my head!

Oh have fun at the concert, that sounds like a great time!

I don’t know if I would ever make it out of my front door if it was 45 degrees out, but 65 during the day sounds like a dream. I hope we get a couple of cool days this year!

So when you say stop for a drink, do you mean water or a *drink*? Because taking a break to have a beer sounds like a good plan to me 🙂

Hahahah stopping for a drink-drink sounds like a good idea! I just stopped to sip some water though. I don’t know what I was thinking! hahah

1 week away…ahhhhhhh lol!! I’d think the 10k will just add some motivation for next week, the atmosphere is always amazing.

Starting to cool down here, my run on Sunday was 71* at the start, it was magical!!

  7. October 2, 2015 / 11:11 am

1 week!!!!! I agree that a race during taper does not seem ideal but it might be a nice distraction from the taper crazies and pre-race jitters! Plus if you just keep it slow and steady it won’t mess with your resting and recovery. Have fun!

  8. October 2, 2015 / 12:32 pm

Ugh, sorry you are still dealing with the heat! It has cooled off a lot in NC and highs have been in the 70s, which feels like winter compared to the summer we had!

  9. October 2, 2015 / 4:24 pm

I think running the 10k is a good idea because it will get you in race mode! It’s cooled down quite a bit here in the Northwest, still mid 70s on nice days and low 60s with rain threats the other days. Chicago is so close, I’m getting excited for you!

  10. October 2, 2015 / 5:29 pm

I really wish I could work from home, but I am not thrilled about the idea of 20 6 year olds running around my house and harrassing Lola! LOL. I think you may freeze in Chicago if it’s anything like Nova Scotia. It’s 10 Celsius here today. 🙁

  11. October 3, 2015 / 5:03 pm

I did a virtual rave this weekend with an old friend! It’s funny how different the weather is…in Sarasota it was in the low 70s this morning! I hope you enjoy your 10k!
