I’m So Hyped for This Week!

I have a pretty awesome mom. We met up for breakfast on Saturday and she handed me a bag that contained this:

“They were on sale and I was concerned your stock might be getting low.” I guess it’s true that no matter how old you are your mom will always want to take care of you :). THANKS MOM! Of course my stock wasn’t getting low, but you can never have too many. #myfavorite

Adam and I got in all of our last minute Christmas shopping on Saturday afternoon. We didn’t really have a lot to buy since we made arrangements with almost everyone to skip gift exchanges this year. Instead we’ve come to agreements that we’ll either make charitable donations on behalf of certain family members and/or we’ll chip in on experiences we can share together.

For instance, Adam and I aren’t exchanging gifts with each other, instead we’re buying courtside seats to a Miami Heat game for that once-in-a-lifestime experience. My mom and I are going to NYC as our shared Christmas experience, and Adam and his dad will be flying out to California for a golf trip in spring 2016.

During our little shopping trip on Saturday I picked something up for myself – the Adrenaline GTS 16s!

Sports Authority was offering $20 off every $100 you spend and the Adrenalines are $119 so I was able to grab them for only $99! BTW, if you’re a fellow Adrenaline GTS runner check out the Brooks website because they have the 15s on sale for only $78 (plenty of color and size options still available).

As soon as I got home I laced up and took the new shoes for a spin around town. The wind was uncomfortably hard to run into on Saturday evening. The gusts were up to 31mph which isn’t terrible if they occur every once in a while, but I felt like the wind just never died down.

I ended up doing five miles but considered stopping several times during the first two. I knew once I hit the turn around I would feel like I was flying with the wind at my back – that thought was the only thing that kept me going! And I was right :). I ended that run on a total high!

Sunday I woke up with this absolute baby attached to me:

We didn’t have anything at all on the schedule for the day except to watch football – just the way I like it! Unfortunately, this is yet another year that it’s really hard to be a Dolphins fan. I love my boys, but I’m already looking forward to the off season when we find a new head coach and hopefully get a decent first round draft pick.

At halftime of the Dolphins game I went out for my run. I got in eight miles, almost all of which I was fighting the wind and a little bit of rain too. When I got home Adam said, “you know that wet dog smell that you’re always complaining about? I’m not saying you’re a wet dog but…” 😀 Oops!

A1A Half Marathon Training Week 4:

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4.17 miles easy/60 mins @ 14:24/mi
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Strength training
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 5 easy miles @ 14:42/mi – VERY WINDY
Sunday: 8 easy miles @ 14:32/mi – WINDY

Total: 17.17 miles

During the middle of the week I took a couple of extra rest days because one of my toes was hurting/felt inflamed. I have no idea what happened there, but it was very aggravating just to walk. With a few days of rest (and some new shoes) it’s feeling a-okay now.  I will fondly remember 2015 as the year where I constantly felt injured!

Now I’m really excited because it’s my last week of work for 2015 – after Wednesday I’m D-O-N-E! My dad is coming into town on Tuesday and next weekend I’ll be doing my runs in Central Park! SO HYPED FOR THIS WEEK! :).

What are you most looking forward to this week/before the end of 2015?
– NYC with my mom!

PS: I hate doing laundry. <-Just a random final thought that I needed to put out into the universe.

What a mom! My mom still does little things (and big things!) to take care of me even though I’m a full grown adult woman. Whenever we go on vacation, she insists on paying for our cat sitter, which I think is extremely nice because she doesn’t even like cats or love my cats, but she knows how much WE love them.

Experiences is a great way to go for Christmas presents! My parents are so hard to buy for. I got my dad a remote control helicopter that my brother insisted he would love. I got my mom the next Christmas ornament in a series she loves. And other than that, we are having them over for dinner in the new year. Having them over for a nice evening has replaced gifts because as they get older, it gets so much harder to buy for them!

I am glad your toe is feeling better! My pointer toe on my left foot looks like death. It doesn’t hurt though! It’s my toe with no nail, so that sort of gives you an idea. I know so many runners than have beautiful feet and I don’t get it!

Your Central Park runs are going to be so much fun! Enjoy NYC! I am sure it will be so festive since it is the holiday season. 🙂

OH my shoes were on sale too, I got 3 pair!!! And they are like black/grey so I am happy. I have been wearing orange for about 2 yrs now. So sick of it. But I get the closeout specials so it is basically whatever color people didn’t want.

Awww that’s so nice that your mom pays for the babysitter! I can’t believe she’s not a cat person though, where did you get it from? haha. My mom loves babysitting Cecil while we’re gone. She’s like, “grandma’s coming!” I think she gives him way too many treats… like a typical grandma 😀

That’s so funny that you’re excited about the black/grey shoes. I loved wearing white/pink shoes all year and I’m a little sad to be going back to grey/blue! My next pair are going to be the brightest colors they offer!!

I do not know where my cat love came from. It seriously just flourished when I met Chrissy.

That wind sounds crazy! I really don’t like running in the wind, especially when its constant like that. 2016 is just around the corner and it will be a great year with zero injuries!!

What a sweet Mom!! I hope you have a fun trip to NY! It is so awesome to go at Christmas time 🙂
Great job on the runs. That is crazy windy…
I hope 2016 will be a strong year for you 🙂

Thanks Karen! Trying to make it the year of no injuries! 😀

I hope your toe is ok. That sounds like a frustrating injury.

I really like the idea of forgoing gift exchanges in favor of chipping in on experiences. I really dislike having to find gifts just for the sake of finding a gift, and I don’t particularly enjoy receiving things like that either. Of course, it’s totally different when the gift is something that has been selected with thought, like your mom giving you your favorite B&BW scrub.

Oh yes, it’s totally different when someone surprises you with a thoughtful gift you weren’t expecting! I love my body scrub. Most of the time though I’m wracking my brain to come up with gift ideas and I end up getting gifts that I might use someday … unless it’s a gift card. The last couple of years I felt like we were all just doing gift card swaps and that’s why Adam and I proposed skipping the present exchange thing this year.

I definitely agree with buying experiences over THINGS. But sometimes I like to buy things that make my experiences better 🙂

Running into the wind is so freaking tough, but it does make the return trip nice! Our “cold front” lasted all of two days, but we still have some super winds here, so maybe it will return!

Oh I could not agree more! My new shoes will make the experience of running races in 2016 (my gifts to myself) better, haha!

Our little cold front… sigh. I heard that January and February might see some chilly weather pass through. Fingers crossed that it’s cool for A1A!

Interesting idea for Xmas. Definitely benefits more people and creates great family memories.

New shoes is always exciting. I just wrote about that today lol.

I’m looking forward to the start of the new year. That much closer to my races in Jan and Feb lol

  8. Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola

Moms are the best! Every time I see that scent of the BBW scrub, I think of you. If you follow their sales and use their coupons, their body stuff really isn’t that much more expensive than drugstore brands.

Please post how you like the new Adrenalines. I have the 15s that I wear as work shoes in the hospital but I am going to get another pair for working out. I was trying to decide between the 15s and the 16s. I personally liked the 14s better than the 15s. Interested to hear your thoughts!!

Exactly! They love to give out coupons too, which is nice, haha! I think I have a stash of like five coupons in my purse right now because you never know when you’re going to need some soap 😉

I’ve only had two runs in the 16s so far but I do think they are a little, tiny bit different than the 15s. So far I would say they provide a very comfortable ride.

  9. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

I can’t believe you are going to be in NYC during the holidays. Central Park will be so pretty this time of year. Be sure to take lots of pictures! 🙂 Justin and I have a hard time doing gifts for each other because whenever we need something we just buy it. Typically we plan a trip of something, but now that we have Axel we haven’t even done that. That’s awesome that you and Adam are going to sit court side at one of the Heat games. So fun!

I am really looking forward to having Justin home during the holidays. His family is coming into town the week after Christmas and I am looking forward to introducing Axel to his cousins and uncle! I just hope it all doesn’t go by too fast.

Experiences are a great gift. I think the weather is going to be quite warm for NYC! As a mom, there are certain things I will always do for my kids. I am known for baking cookies… 🙂
I don’t mind laundry, but I do mind emptying the dishwasher…

I’m doing A1A too! But I have Miami before that so that’s my focus right now. I haven’t been able to take advantage of the wind to keep me going cause I’m hardly ever at the beach anymore 🙁 Maybe after the holidays

  12. Jennifer

You know me, I love experiences. Past few years, I’ve gifted my mom a mani and DC brunch for her birthday – something fun to do together (plus my dad doesn’t like driving into DC, so she gets to try the “cool’ spots). Thanks for the Brooks sale 411, will need to scoop some of those up too!
