Impressive Elevation + Makeup Chat

Today’s post was supposed to be a Scenes From My Long Run style post. I planned to snap a pic of something from each mile yesterday, but unfortunately I forgot my phone at home!

On a normal day I probably would have gone home to get it, but it took me 45 minutes to find parking at the beach due to the New Year’s crowd so once I found a spot I wasn’t giving it up for anything.

I still have a sinus infection and somewhere around mile four my meds wore off, so I only ended up doing five miles anyway.

^ Look at all of that elevation. Whoa baby! 😀

I took this pic when I go home to prove that this run happened because if there are no pics then WHO KNOWS?!?!

^ Hmmm I think the calorie count on my Garmin is off. Is it even possible to burn 800 calories from just five miles? Oh well, I never really use that calorie counter thing anyway. I would be interested to know how Garmin calculates that though!

Our cold streak is over! Every day this week the high will be back in the 80s. I’ve made it one of my New Year’s resolutions to find heat and humidity proof makeup.

I placed an order on Sephora the other night for a few things I saw recommended online:

*In my cold medicine induced haze I didn’t check to see if Makeup Forever was cruelty free or not, and unfortunately they sell in China which means they test on animals in China. I am very sad about this as there are so many rave reviews for this primer from people who live in FL, LA and GA who frequently deal with high heat/humidity, but I’ll have to send this product back. Makeup Forever, SORT IT OUT so I can start buying your stuff!

I’ve used the Becca Ever Matte Primer before and I like it so I’m glad I ordered a bottle of that as well. I’ve been trying to convince myself the NYX Studio HD primer is just as good (because it’s inexpensive), but it’s really not as good. It keeps my foundation on, but everything else slides right off after like two hours.

I saw a great tip about lipsticks on a beauty forum. It said instead of wearing glosses, fill in your lips with your favorite lip liner and then add chapstick on top to add moisture back in. Supposedly that combo has super long lasting powers so I’ll be giving it a try!

I’m thinking about trying the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. If you’ve tried that before please let me know what you think!

Please share ANY recommendations for cruelty free makeup that lasts in heat/humidity! 🙂

Are you back to work today, or do you get to enjoy another day off? I’m back in the office today!

Does your Garmin know how much you weigh? Because if it doesn’t, I’m not sure how it can even be in the ballpark of how many calories you burned. I still haven’t ordered primer but it is on my to do list! I go back tomorrow and I am so not looking forward to it. 🙁 Were you ready to go back?

It does know how much I weigh and how tall I am. I think normally the calorie count is probably right, this day it just seemed totally off! I mean 800 calories for five miles??!

I was not ready to go back yesterday. I would have loved to have had Monday off so I could enjoy a four day week, but it is what it is!

How is your cold doing? Ugh–booo for being sick, right. I never EVER use the calorie counts on my Garmin. In a way it does seem accurate, though. Today I ran 3.3 miles and it said I burned 264 calories. That seems reasonable don’t you think? OMG, it took you 45 minutes to find parking? I have mad respect for you. I would have totally given up. Way to go, girl. I go back to work tomorrow and I am so not ready. Last day in the office was Dec 16th….I am not sure I remember how to work!! LOL.

That definitely seems right! Normally my Garmin shows about 100 calories burned per mile … 800 for 5 miles seems way off! My heart rate wasn’t super high so I think maybe it was just a little glitch!

I hope your first day back went smoothly! You were able to work from home, right? That had to help a little – no commute!

I have a sample of NARS sheer glow that I am trying right now, but I don’t think I love it enough to buy it. Which is unfortunate because it is cheaper than my current foundation (Hourglass Immaculate, cruelty free but stupid expensive). I am going to try it with a couple different primers and possibly in a slightly lighter shade to see if I can get it to work for me. I also need to do a bit of testing to see how long it lasts on my face. Some days I am at work and school for 12+ hours and I need it to LAST! [also: winter is dry AF and my skin is only slightly oily on my forehead, so your experience might not be the same]

Please report back on the LM setting powder!

Oh and I forgot to mention, I’d say sheer glow is less “sheer” and more “medium” coverage.

Thanks for the tip about NARS! I like a med. coverage so that’s pretty good news for me. I have heard good things about Hourglass but I would def like to find something less expensive. If it lasts all day through my heat/humidity I would make the investment though. I’m going to try NARS and if that doesn’t work out I’ll try Hourglass. I’ll def let you know about LM!

From what I asked my zumba instructor (who is some sort of certified trainer) as long as your weight and height are accurate on your Garmin page, the calculations on calories burned are 90% accurate, especially if you have a garmin with an HR monitor.

Sorry, I don’t wear make up and have no idea what products are cruelty free. But my friend used to buy Mac, and swore by its staying power through sweat and humidity. Good luck on your search!

I used to wear MAC too and loooooved it. In college it was all I wore, but sadly they are not cruelty free. I wish because they are such a fun brand!
