In Case You Didn’t Know

You may already know, but if not, let me just preface my first thought today by saying I’m a bit weird.

Last night I was looking at my new running shoes while going through my stretching routine, and I realized these will probably be the shoes that I run my first marathon in.

sdf

That made me smile and it kind of endeared me to the shoes a bit (more). I’m glad they’ll get to train hard and then cross the finish line. That’s kind of WEIRD right? Who thinks about their running shoes like this? I must not have enough friends! : )

Since my 15-miler last Saturday I’ve been trying to get in the pool a bit each day. It feels really good to just slowly swim about for a few minutes.

My right hip was super tight on Sunday and Monday… swimming (plus stretching and rolling) made it feel a lot better. I’m going to try and get in the pool a few times a week. I know I’ve said this about a billion times before, but I really am going to stick to it this time!

My run last night was SWAMPY. It had just finished raining when I headed out and the humidity was through the roof (89%). The sky is always pretty after a storm though.

I had a bit of a frustrating afternoon which translated into an impromptu speed workout.

I know I mentioned yesterday that I don’t like speed days, but my legs were churning and it felt good. Until it felt bad : ) .

When I got home Adam and I started our summer ritual of watching the entire series of Arrested Development as fast as possible.

Cecil was bored and conked out as usual.

I must have a million pictures of him sleeping on the bed, but I can’t stop taking them!

He’s my little peanut!

Have you been getting in the pool at all this summer?

Do you celebrate your pet’s birthday? Cecil’s is coming up right after mine!

lol, I must need friends too 🙂 I picked my shoes for my half in Nov. so I could train in them. I haven’t been in a pool in years, my gym is small and doesn’t have one. The humidity here is awful too I didn’t even run this morning before my shower. I’ve been doing a mile or two this week and last before work and I actually enjoy my shower a lot more when I do lol Keep on that stretching and swimming 🙂 I always feel so much better when I spend quality time stretching but it gets hard to fit it all in!

I totally know what you mean! I used to stretch religiously after every. single. run. and then I got lazy and started doing it only once or twice a week. Somewhat not surprisingly once I got lazy with stretching my right hip started tightening up again so I know I have to stay religious about it this time. It stinks sometimes though because after a tough run sometimes I just want to lay on the ground for a few minutes… or a few hours 🙂

Not weird at all!! But I’m a runner too so yeah…lol!
I don’t have pets but today is my son’s first birthday 😀 <3

haha, Henri loves Arrested Development but I have never been able to get into it. I don’t know what it is but I’ve just never thought it was that funny 🙁 But Henri and I love having TV marathons and have been known to watch an entire series in a few weeks!

I love the Tobias character from AD … I think he’s the funniest tv character of all time! 🙂

Marathoning TV shows is really the best!

no way, you have to bond with them, with all the running we do they become a part of us. humidity or not, sky pic is fabulous. We don’t celebrate our pets birthdays but try to celebrate the holidays with them.

I am so glad I’m not the only one who feels like she has to bond with her running shoes! 😀 We’re all crazy together!

I purchased a belt for pool running…I haven’t tried it out yet. I get attached to my sneakers too.
We get our dogs a special treat on their birthday (they are sisters). I like to think that every day is spoil the dogs day around here…
I don’t know how you do it in the humidity–it was 90* and humid when I went for a poorly timed run today…I thought I might die…next time I will get up and go before the kid’s orthodontist appts….

I hope you like pool running! I think it can be a bit boring if you’re planning to do it for more than 20 or so minutes at a time, but it can definitely get your heart pumping!

Oh no, those hot runs where the sun is beating down on you is the worst! I hope you jumped in the pool afterwards to cool down 🙂

I think bonding with our shoes is totally normal! Or maybe it’s just “runner normal”, because all runners are a liiiiiittle funny in the head, right? 🙂

I really thought I was the only crazy who thought of her shoes as little running friends. I’m so glad I’m not alone! We’re all crazy! 😀

  7. Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy

I totally feel that way about my shoes too.
We always celebrate our cat’s birthdays. In fact, it is our youngest cat’s 2nd birthday on Saturday. We shall be having a party 🙂

YAY! Happy early birthday to your kitty!!!

I definitely celebrate Cecil’s bday every year, but he’s so spoiled every day I’m not sure he realizes it’s his bday. I may give him 4 treats instead of 2 this year as something special since the “diet” is killing him lol

  8. Courtney @RunningforCupcakes

I did some pool running yesterday since I’m still resting my foot. The pool is definitely a great way to recover after a hard run!

Most definitely! And the water right now is so warm (here). I walk right in!

  9. Kim

I haven’t been in the pool all summer – not abnormal because I rarely get in!!! I just like laying out next to it:)
We don’t have any pets but I think if we did we would probably celebrate birthdays!

Haha that’s exactly how I am at the beach – I lay next to the water but I never get in! Too many gross things in there 🙂 PLUS a friend of a friend just recently was attacked by a flesh eating creature after being in the water. Heck no to that!

  10. Megan @ Meg Go Run

Paul loves Arrested Development! You better believe we celebrate the kitties’ bdays. We cuddle them and tell them Happy Bday all day long! I got in a pool ONCE this summer. We don’t have one and I don’t get invited to them often.

  11. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

I am the exact same way about my running shoes. In fact, I just bought a brand new pair of Glycerins that I ran in today and I thought “I am going to do the Portland Marathon in these.” Great minds think alike. I seriously can’t wait to meet you in Portland! 🙂

Smart for making time for the pool. I don’t go nearly as often as I would like/should!

I always feel like it takes SO MUCH to get down to the pool — put on bathing suit and select cover up, find sunscreen and apply, decide on drink to bring down, etc. but once I’m there it feels worth it! I just need to stop being so lazy!
