In the Sunshine…

The sun can feel warm and comforting like it did when Adam and I walked down to the beach on Saturday to check out the Memorial Day beach party and to grab some lunch.

But the sun can also feel brutally hot and annoying like when I attempted my long run on Sunday evening.

^ I’m only smiling because I had just given myself permission to cut the nine miler short with the promise to try again on Monday. (Hopefully by the time you read this I will have already finished that run strong!)

Since I don’t have very many good things to say about yesterday’s run, let’s just roll back to Saturday!

This was the third year in a row that Adam and I have gone to the Beach Party during Memorial Day weekend and every year it grows larger and larger!

I know someone else who did his squats and had to foam roll the heck out of himself last night:

Cecil provided support during the rolling like the excellent personal trainer that he is.

Meanwhile, I’m over here just trying to figure out what I need to roll out to stop being sore for DAYS after pull-ups! Those guys get me every time, but in a hurt-so-good-because-I-know-I’m-getting-stronger kind of way!

By the end of this year I will be posting a video of me doing an unassisted pull-up! That’s my top non-running goal for 2015!

    My non-running goal would be to have more sculpted arms–rather subjective, I know. Maybe to achieve that, I would have the goal be that I am consistently doing upper body strengthening 3 days/week!
    I am procrastinating right now going out for a run…it is warm and humid today, and I know it is going to get me. That’s what makes us stronger, right?

      That’s what I keep telling myself! All of this summer running in the heat/humidity is what will help us have awesome fall and winter races!

    Alright, don’t laugh, but my non-running goal is to be able to do 10 pushups (not modified, no knees involved). My upper body strength is seriously lacking.

    PS: Thanks for responding so quickly to my Garmin questions! I saw your response when I was on my phone and it was easier to wait until I was at a computer to say thanks. I am sticking with the 220 for know, but I really hope they do add the workout function to the vivoactive. My top concern is running, so while the activity tracking might be a nice perk, it wasn’t really on my radar when picking a watch. Thanks again!

      That’s an awesome goal! Knocking out 10 will be such a cool achievement! I never do pushups, I wonder if I could even do 1?!

    I like your unassisted pull-up goal! I’ve been doing pullups assisted by the bar and trying to slowly decrease the assistance, but I definitely haven’t been dedicated enough to it. Why is it so hard to be dedicated to any type of exercise other than running?!

      Haha good question! I think it’s because we are so focused on and dedicated to running it makes it hard to find time for the other things! Or at least that’s the excuse I’m going with 🙂

    The Spider-man perspective is cracking me up! The beach scenes look so fun, but yes brutal to running. I ran late this morning and would have completely died if I tried to go a step past a 5K – I started the run thinking I will go 5, okay 4, okay, a 5K is perfect lol
    I want to be able to do a pull up too! I am starting to doubt my self, I can’t wait to see you get it done 🙂

      Haha that is exactly how things went for me yesterday! I was like, “yessss let’s go 9 miles!” and then “okay maybe I should stop at 8, that’s a nice even number” and then it was, “6.2 sounds good, that’s 10K and 10 sounds better than 9 anyway” and finally it was “okay four is good enough. That’s a wrap!” 😀

    My arms are currently sore from pull ups too! They are sore at the joint- not my elbow but directly on the other side. So when I extend my arm… OW! #pullupproblems !!!

      Yesss that’s where I get sore too. If I lay on the couch or something with my arm bent for too long and then I extend it … OMG pure agony!

    I’m still trying to master the push-up, I can’t even imagine doing a pull up (assisted or otherwise!)
    The sun was brutal this weekend. It felt just as hot today but I hope you were able to get your run completed!

      Ugh, I think it was worse today! What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger right? When it’s 50 degrees in Chicago we’re going to FLY!

    Did you hear what happened to spider man? There was a waterspout that touched land and picked up the entire bounce house and it landed in the Bahia Mar parking lot. 4 kids sent to the hospital. Scary stuff!

      Holy cow! I did not hear about that, but I did drive by the beach this evening and I wondered why CSI and a million cops were all around. Wow, how terrifying – that’s such a long way for it to go. I just watched the video on the Sun Sentinel – incredibly scary!

    The heat and humidity are killing my runs! I went running at 6 this morning and it was already incredibly warm! I don’t have a specific non-running goal I just want to get stronger all around.

    Those pics of the beach party (the police and spiderman) cracked me up! An unassisted pull-up is a great goal! I’m not quite there yet, but maybe someday!

    My top running goal this year (now) is to do a full marathon, as well as to regularly incorporate strength training into my life. Which, I know is a must for this marathon goal. I’m so envious of your pull ups!! I look at a pull up bar and hurt.
