I’ve Got a Funny Story to Tell You!

Last week I got lost in all my feelings about finishing the Portland Marathon that I completely forgot to tell you the most interesting story to come out of the weekend!

On Saturday evening Adam and I went down to the concierge at our hotel in Portland to ask where we could get the best burrito bowl (extra rice, no beans for me!).  What I got was SO much more than I was expecting. You’re not going to believe this (the story has nothing to do with the food)!

The concierge directed us to a little hole in the wall place called Santeria that had seriously delicious burritos.

After drinking lots of water to hydrate for the next day, I had to use the restroom. The waitress directed me to a little door in the back. She didn’t even smirk or smile… she just let me walk right on through the door into a STRIP CLUB!

The restaurant shares a bathroom with a legit strip club!

When I walked through the door I saw exactly what you think I saw O_O!

Oh Portland, there are just so many reasons I won’t ever forget you. My first marathon and my first time in a strip club being on top of the list!

When I got back to the table and told Adam he said he suddenly needed to use the restroom. Ha-ha. He respectfully waited until we got back to the hotel : ).

This Saturday I went for my first post-marathon run! Just a short 2-miler to get the pins moving again after almost six days off from running.

It was nice to be back on the home course!

I’m really looking forward to running the Fort Lauderdale half marathon again next month. It’s always nice when you get to run on a course you’re super familiar with.

Sunday morning Cecil and I got up early so we could watch a live stream of the Chicago Marathon!

I love that Rita Jeptoo called herself the Queen of Chicago! She looks so powerful when running, I totally bow down to the queen!

Congrats to everyone who marathon’d this weekend! I can’t wait to start reading your re-caps!

How was your weekend run/race?

Now that is a new one for me! I don’t know what I would have done!! Had to have been a shocker going from a burrito to strippers! It gave a good story to tell and truly something to not be forgotten! 🙂

I was so surprised! At first I don’t think I really registered what I was seeing!

I can’t believe I forgot the story until yesterday! Ha!

  2. Lauren @ The Foodie Runner

Oh my gosh! I literally would have died if I was nonchalantly led into a strip club!!!

This weekend was great! I got to meet Cori on Saturday and ran a 4-min marathon pr yesterday! It’s been such a great weekend that I’m not ready to leave Chicago tomorrow!! Haha

Yay, so awesome that you got to meet Cori in person and that you both had such an amazing time at the marathon!

The strip club was crazy, after I got over my confusion I just went back to the restaurant. I didn’t want to use a bathroom that was in a strip club. I’m sure it was clean but I just couldn’t do it lol

Now that is a crazy story lol can’t believe that wasn’t the first story you told.

Must feel amazing to be a marathoner and get back out there. And you are 100% correct, home course running will be amazing.

It felt so good to run again… and to have no expectations for pace or distance. After a long training cycle it’s nice to just run for the feeling of it!

That is hilarious! I would have been checking for the cameras to see if I had been “punked” or something!
    How are your legs feeling?
Running the next race on a home course will be great! After globe trotting, time zone skipping, and marathon traveling…it should seem simple!

My legs are feeling really good! At first I thought I wouldn’t be able to run again for WEEKS but really after that first 72 hours was up I was starting to feel pretty good and itch for a run.

I did tweak my ankle a bit during the marathon I think … I didn’t notice it during the marathon while I was pumped full of adrenaline, but afterwards my right ankle was a little swollen. I thought it was all healed up by the time I went running on Sat. but it’s been a bit twingy since then.

    Hahaha SURPRISE! That is awesome.

FL half = flat = amazing = yay!

I like the way you think!!

I am very excited to run this half marathon again… elevation gain 10 feet because we cross the bridge one time! lol

Wow-I bet you were shocked. That sounds totally like something out of a Portlandia episode! Haha. I love Portlandia because its so…true!
When we were in Portland, we tried like 3 brunch places that all had 1-2 hour waits and I was HUNGRY. So of course my favorite Portlandia episode is the one where people are all waiting in line for brunch.

I’ve never watched Portlandia but I’ve heard it’s hilarious!

Yes, I did notice brunch places were VERY busy – but the place we went (I can’t remember the name now) was soooooooooo good and totally worth the wait! I wanted everything on the menu!

Everything is feeling really good except for my right ankle. I didn’t notice any pain in it during the marathon (maybe because everything else hurt so much lol) but it was a little swollen afterwards. By Saturday I thought it was healed and back to normal but it’s been a bit sensitive since then so I am babying it!

Oh. Em. Gee. JAJAJA!!! That is so random lol!!!!

It was so ridiculous! Definitely one of those things you just have to laugh off … because really it’s hilarious! Especially because I missed the bathroom sign (I guess my eyes were distracted, hah!) and I had to walk near the stage to get to the bar to ask an employee where the bathroom was… OMG. The whole experience was really bizarre and funny!

  9. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

That story is hilarious! Of course that would happen to you in Portland. It’s only one of the most eclectic cities in the US. Did you guys do anything else fun (aside from run a marathon) while you were there? I did a 5-mile run yesterday and it felt really good to get back out there. I’m still planning on taking it pretty easy for the next week. 🙂

Unfortunately we didn’t really have time to do anything too exciting. We walked around the city a bit, and I went running down by the river on Sat. afternoon. We definitely want to go back and spend a lot more time in Portland, we really what little we saw!

Way to go on the 5-miler… and SIGNING UP FOR CIM! WOW!

  10. Kim

Oh, that is so funny about the strip club and the shared bathroom!!!
Funny that the burrito bowl (minus beans) was your pre-race meal. After most of my super long runs I like Chipotle – steak burrito bowl. Once I had it the night before a super long run – not my best choice!!!

I had spoken with my coach on Friday afternoon and said I didn’t want to have pasta so she suggested a burrito bowl minus the beans! She said she had one the night before she ran Boston! I really liked it, I think it will be my go-to from now on.

The Chipotle steak bowl is literally one of my favorite things in the WORLD. I get lots of extra corn salsa 🙂 I am a simple person to please, haha.

OMG! That’s is a crazy story 🙂 Soooo funny… nice run, hopefully your legs feel pretty good! I can’t imagine how Jeptoo runs that hard for so long!

I don’t know how Rita does it, especially looking so smooth the entire time!

My legs are feeling good! I want to do a semi-long run this weekend, maybe 8 miles? We’ll see, I’m just going to go by feel!

I laughed so much at this…first the strip club bathroom (I mean what about the little kids who need to pee?! Do they at least get a warning?!) and you calling your legs “pins”. I felt like I was transported back to the 50s hehe!

Hooray for a nice shakeout run!!!

I thought about the kids too! I mean there weren’t any signs that you couldn’t bring your kids into the restaurant! I mean, is it even legal to bring kids into a strip club to use the bathroom?!

Haha, “pins” was a reference to Anton Krupicka who is always referring to his legs as pins in his running blog posts! It always makes me smile because it reminds me of 1950s pinups too… and he is the furthest thing from looking like one! 😉

  13. Heather @ GirlGoesRunning

OMG strip club?!?!?! LOL. Once in University when we were at a bar I used the payphone in a strip club to call my BF to come pick me up…..I didn’t see anything though..lol.

Haha I couldn’t avoid seeing anything, as soon as I walked in the door I was facing the stage!

I tried to divert my eyes pretty quickly because I didn’t want to steal any free looks since that is how she makes her money!

Haha, I KNOW that feeling! You just need 72 hours of rest! I thought I wouldn’t be able to walk right let alone run for WEEKS but during that first 72 hours your body really does its magic in the healing department!

Can’t wait to run the Ft. Lauderdale course! That strip club story is hilarious 🙂
