Just Thinking Out Loud About a Few Things

Thanks to Amanda @ Running with Spoons for hosting Thinking Out Loud Thursdays… AND for being the best food photographer!

1. I’m in a mini running slump. Before I left for vacation I was pretty much loving every run. I was getting stronger at the long run, and kicking butt in high quality speedwork sessions.

Now I feel like I’m in a slump. I think it has more to do with outside factors than running. I didn’t eat great on the cruise, and I haven’t been eating right since we got home. I am also not getting enough sleep.

Last night I only did three of the six progression miles on my schedule. The good news is I felt like those three miles were really high quality.

2. Tonight I am having dinner with my grad school BFFs! Each year we get together to celebrate each other’s birthdays. Tomorrow we are celebrating TWO birthdays plus Shaundi’s acceptance into a PhD program at the University of Colorado!

Cross your fingers that she gets a graduate assistantship too!

3. I am hooked on the stupid Emoji Pro game. For a really long time I had no idea that there was an Emoji game. I thought they were just little icons you used in texts and on Instagram. In the Emoji game they show you two or more emojis and you guess what word(s) they represent. Some are really easy like this one (bikini top):

unnamed (1)
Playing on my iPhone… almost at 500 points!

But others are crazy hard! For instance, what the hell is this one?

unnamed (2)
On my iPad … stuck on this one!

Seriously, if you figure it out please leave the answer in the comments! The “S” is correct … Adam and I ended up buying that letter, but we don’t want to buy any more.

4. The Heat won last night! If you’re a basketball fan you know that the underdogs have grabbed at least one game in each series so far… except for the Heat v. Bobcats because THE HEAT ARE THE BEST!!!!!

Also, if you watched the game last night then you know that foul on Lebron was a Flagrant. So outrageous that it wasn’t called!

Are you rooting for any teams in the playoffs?

Can you solve that Emoji word puzzle? Pretty, please?

  1. Amanda @ .running with spoons.

Omg you did NOT just open up my mind to the world of an Emoji game. Gah! As if I can handle another gaming addiction. Do you know what I w net through with Candy Crush?!? I literally had to cut myself off cold turkey 😆 I have no idea what that puzzle you’re stuck on might be, buuuut I’m off to check out the game now… Thanks a lot 😛

Hahaha 🙂 I hope you enjoy it! I never got into Candy Crush, but I love a good word game!

    2. Angie

      It’s City of Angels movie

Meg Ryan & Nicholas Cage…. Not a bad flick.

  2. dawn @ running the dawn

yikes, that looks super hard! i’m terrible at pictionary and even worse at emojis. some of my friends send entire text messages with emojis…and i never know what they are talking about.

sorry that you are in a slump! coming back from a vacation is always super hard. i always struggle to get back in the groove. but you got out there and tackled it! nice work girl!

Ahhh I’m so glad that my friends don’t send full texts of just emojis! It takes me an embarrassingly long time to figure out some of the puzzles in the game!

  3. The running schlub

You will work through it, the slump won’t last forever. Emoji… WHAT? ???? This may be the end to all my extra activities, thank you very much.

Go Heat Go! !!!! I thought it was a flagrant foul also, darn refs.

The league ruled it a FLAGRANT 2 today! How does that not even get called a flagrant 1?! I think the refs should get fined for blowing that call so badly!

  4. Kim

I think it’s Las Angeles? Maybe?

  5. Lauren @ Will Run for Boston

I’ve never seen that game before but it looks addicting! And that puzzle seems really hard – I have no idea what the answer could be but maybe something having to do with “ray” light ray of sunshine???

It can be so easy to get into a running slump after vacation but I know that you can get back into it! I have been really impressed with your runs lately and in my mind quality is better than quantity so great job in getting in some miles last night! 🙂

Thank you! I am so ready to kick butt on the long run this weekend and get back into the swing of things! 🙂

  6. Jennifer @ The Final Forty

Yep. I know what you mean. I feel like I’m STILL in a slump! I’m just not loving running the way I used to. I guess all we can do is be patient with ourselves, and do the best we can. I’m sure it’ll come back (for both of us) eventually!

Oh, and I nominated you for a Liebster Award! If you’re interested, all the info is here! 🙂 http://thefinalforty.com/liebster-award 🙂

Thank you for the nomination 🙂

You are so right, we’ll get back into a groove eventually. Hopefully soon!!

  7. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

I always need one or two “get-back-into-the-groove” runs after returning from a vacation of extended break. Once you settle into a routine and work out the kinks, you will be just fine. Since I live in Oregon, I typically root for the Blazers and have really enjoyed watching them beat Houston on their own court!

This year’s playoffs have really favored the underdogs, I am loving it so far!

I can’t wait to visit Oregon for the first time ever this fall for the Portland marathon!

Quality over quantity I reckon. Don’t worry – your ‘slump’ is only temporary, I promise! Sometimes that happens after holidays I reckon.

Hmm, was going to say ‘Sun Selfies’? But there’s no ‘i’. I think Kim’s right, maybe Los Angeles?

Looks pretty addicting! I had no idea this existed! 🙂

So true, I think I need to get in a few easy runs where I don’t worry about pace or distance and just run for the love of it!

  9. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

Honestly, I’m so impressed that you ran 3 miles EVERY DAY on the cruise. I can barely get 5 in total when I’m cruising!!

    1. Kristina @ Blog About Running

This is the first time I’ve stayed committed to running during the cruise! Normally I just end up napping by the pool all day 🙂

  10. Kim

I will not download that game. I will not download that game. I will not…….
I have serious game addictions and currently I’m stuck on 2048. I can’t believe how much time I’ve wasted on it.
I think that the Kim who commented above might have the right answer for you!!

Ohh I just looked up 2048 and it looks like a great game! I think I will have to give it a try!

  11. Dana

I hope your running slump passes soon! I’ve been in one since winter. Basically if I’m not running with the sunrise/sunset, I’m not into it. I think I spoiled myself with all of my sunset runs in the fall haha. I’ve been okay with HIIT though, so I’m sticking with that and weights until the running bug cycles around again. 🙂 That game looks like too much fun! 2048 is super fun too, but don’t download it unless you want your productivity to drop haha.

    1. Kristina @ Blog About Running

Thank you! I think I need to get back to running at the beach. I was pretty obsessed with it last fall and then I just stopped for no reason. Definitely need to get back to it.

I’m glad that you’ve been able to stick with HIIT. Hopefully the running bug will bite you again soon. Maybe sign up for a short race?
