Leaving on a Jet Plane … to Chicago!

I’m off to the Windy City today!

If you want to follow along with my adventures during Chicago Marathon weekend I’ll be Instagramming @KristinaRunning!

Right now I’m in prep mode. Yesterday after work I made a last minute stop to Sports Authority to pick up a few Chocolate Gu packs – the kind with caffeine included. My stomach doesn’t do well when I alternate flavors so chocolate it is for however long I’m out there on Sunday!

I’ve decided to bring my water belt to Chicago with me. I’m still not 100% sure if I’m going to wear it or not, but the forecast is looking pretty warm so there is a good chance I will.

The weather in Chicago is pretty crazy. Today the high is only 58*F, tomorrow it’s 68*F and by Sunday the projected high is 76*F. That’s such a big change over the span of just a couple of days!

I’m not used to weather swings like this. I need to pack so many different outfit options! JUST KIDDING. I’m basically going to be living in runner’s clothes. I’ll wear capris today and tomorrow, but on race day I’ll be wearing shorts.

Adam and I will be taking public transport around the city. We debated whether we should rent a car or not, but in the end we decided it wasn’t necessary for us since we’re staying so close to the start/finish lines. My friends at ParkWhiz are offering a parking discount to all of you heading into Chicago with a car. Just use the code “runkristina” to get 5% off parking all weekend when you pay using the ParkWhiz app on your phone.

ParkWhiz is the official parking sponsor of the Chicago Marathon and their app allows you to pre-book guaranteed parking at guaranteed rates all around the city!

If you want to track me as I run around the Windy City on Sunday my bib number is 52620. That seems like a pretty good number to me!

I’m starting to get a little bit anxious about the race, but in the good kind of way. The kind where I wish I could fast forward to the moment that I’m finally crossing the starting line! I just want to get started already!

If you’re looking for a great marathon recap to read today I highly suggest Margaret’s Portland Marathon recap.

And with that link I’m going to sign off – I’ll talk to you again after the race!

PS: Don’t forget I’ll be Instagramming all weekend @KristinaRunning if you want to follow along :).

Thank you to ParkWhiz for sponsoring this blog post!

That’s awesome you’ll be taking public transit. I have always said that the only way to truly get to know a city (other than running it!) is by bus, train, etc.

Have a GREAT time! I’ll be following you on Sunday!

WOOHOO!!! I’m all ready to follow you, Kristina. Your pictures of Chicago have been beautiful. It makes me want to visit the big city. Definitely a different vibe from Portland, right? It sounds like you are going to have similar weather as when you ran the Portland Marathon… anything probably feels cooler than Florida. 🙂 Enjoy your trip and remember to breathe — you’ve got this!!!
