Let the 5K Training Fun Begin!

Yesterday I headed out for my run a little later than usual.

The moon was high and beautiful, but it was soooooooooooo HUMID out. I think I had steam rising from the top of my head by the end!

As many of you know, I am now officially in training to get a new 5K PR! With the weather already being so hot I’m kind of nervous, but I’m ready to give it all I’ve got!

Last night was just three easy miles, but atย the end of the run my coach had me go through this set of post-run power exercises (includes videos of Lauren doing the exercises).

These five exercises are meant to improve leg/stride power and increase speed!

My first of five upcoming races will be on March 22nd, so just a few weeks away!ย I’ll be running theย Kendra’s Kisses Memorial 5K.

I ran this race back in March of 2013, andย I also ran a then-PR on this course last September. I don’t love the course but I do like that I am really familiar with it. I like knowing what I’m facing when I’m attempting a PR!

In other news, I finally did one small thing in the way of decorating.

    Love the picture. It has taken me years to figure out where to hang pictures, I had SO LONG with blank walls. It was such a commitment to put a hole in the wall to hang something up!

    One thing I really want to accomplish this week is to get caught up at work and have a great, productive week. I’ve been going through kind of a rough patch at work lately, and my goal is to go into my 4 day weekend next week feeling like I can relax and not have to worry about what I’m missing/getting behind on at work – as much as I can, anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

    Woohoo! I can’t believe it’s time for 5K training to begin – your half marathons went by in a flash it seems. Then again it’s also March, so maybe I’m just lost altogether haha.

    This week I’m hoping to get outside for at least one of my runs. I was able to run outside on Saturday and it was so nice!

    I have a hard time doing lunges on run-days, but I’ve officially added them to my non-running days! Jumping lunges hurt my knees :o( You are going to get SO strong and be SO ready for a new 5k PR!!

    And yes, it’s been suddenly steamy and humid. My run the other night felt like 10x harder because of the warmer weather.

      Yes exactly! This week I’ve been wondering how I ever ran outdoors through the summer last year when it was in the high 90s/100s every day when I can barely get through the 80s now. I guess from here on out it’ll just get progressively warmer and we’ll get used to it!

      It’s definitely unfamiliar territory for me too. I have never trained specifically for a 5K PR before! So far, so good, but then again I’ve only done one speed workout so far :).
