Let’s Catchup!

Hey there!

Last week I didn’t post any updates after Monday because I took the rest of the week off running. My right hip started getting really tight and I could feel it in my butt as well, so I decided to give my hip some rest. Miami marathon training starts one week from today and I want to feel 100% on Day 1!

Of course I kept up with lifting during my run rest break :). I wore my Mio Link heart rate monitor during my lifting session on Saturday.

The workout I did included a little bit of everything because I really just wanted to see the ways different lifts impact my heart rate.

  • Chest press
  • Assisted pull ups
  • Lat pull down
  • Shoulder press
  • Bent over rows
  • Bicep curls
  • Squats
  • Leg press

I’m excited to look through the data at some point. My Mio pairs with my Garmin and right now my Garmin doesn’t want to sync with my phone. It must be mad that we’re not running. (Me too, Garmin, me too!)

Detailed post on that workout as soon as my Garmin syncs (I think I know what’s wrong… long story…).

Since I was resting from running last week I spent more time than usual on the couch. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this before, but I HATE MY COUCH. When we move next month and our new couch is delivered I am going to cry tears of happiness.

I hate the couch because it’s a sectional that’s made of two separate pieces that move around way too much. I was laying on the couch last week, the pieces split apart, I fell and I did something to my back. This may or may not have had something to do with me showing Adam a new hip stretch I could do on the couch…. but anyway! My lower back has been tight/sore ever since then :(.

My back feels best when I’m laying flat in bed, which Cecil is pretty happy about. He’s always looking for someone to snuggle with!

Adam and I clipped Cecil’s toenails on Saturday and it went really well! We only had to bribe him with 10 treats to get him to cooperate. We’re counting that as a win! Anyone else with a cat will know the struggle :).

BTW you may have noticed a made a couple of color and font changes here on the blog over the weekend. What do you think? Is the font too big or just right?

Hope you have a great Monday!

Do you monitor your heart rate during non-running workouts?
What do you think about the new font size?

I usually don’t wear my HRM when Im not running, but I think it would be interesting to see that data from a tough workout. I hope that your hip loosens up so you can get back to running. And I don’t think I would have noticed the font change if you didn’t say something- it looks good to me!

Thanks Lisa! I remember looking after my final set of squats and I think my heart rate was in the 150s which surprised me!

Oh, I’m glad to hear about the font! I’m supposed to wear glasses but I don’t, so I’m not always a good judge of whether a font size is too big. I generally increase the font size on sites so that I can read them… you know, instead of just putting on my glasses! Hah!

I think it’s smart to rest up if your hip is bothering you, I say relax on the lifting but that’s just because of my own distane for the lifting lol.

HRM, what is that?!?! Non running workouts, what is that?!?! I really should look into one, I’m sure it would help a lot with my training.

Hahaha nooooo, I gotta lift! I’m in a good routine with it and I swear I’m going to do a pull up once of these days! It’s coming! haha

I am surprised you don’t have a HRM! IDK why but it totally seems like something you would be really into!

Your new signature is very friendly and chic. 🙂 I love it!

I know what you mean about sectional couches slipping around. When ours does it we get SO ANNOYED.

Cecil is a good little boy to let you clip his toenails. I used to cut Chrissy and Jelly’s but they have none of that now. I do brush Chrissy’s teeth, but that’s basically just him licking the chicken flavored toothepaste off the brush. 🙂

You rest up so your back and hip feels better! I felt something strange in the front of my hip during my run today and I wished I could talk to you about it!

Awwww thank you for noticing it!

That’s so awesome that you’re able to brush his teeth. I inquired at the vet today about Cecil having a dental cleaning but she said if I brought him in they would have to do it under anesthesia since he gets so feisty at the vet. I don’t want him to have to go under, so I guess I will need to try brushing them myself! I am sure I am going to lose a finger in the process though!

OH NO I am sorry to hear that about the hip! What did it feel like? I hope it was just a random twinge or a little bit of tightness!

I’m really excited for you that you will be getting a new couch! I love getting new furniture, especially when you can’t stand your current furniture 🙂 I have a sectional (well, kind of, it has a chaise) but I’ve never had a problem with it sliding. It was on carpet at my old place, though, and no one really sits on it in my new place.

I don’t use a HRM but I really haven’t ever done training that would indicate one. If I ever got to the point where I was really training for an endurance sport then I’m sure I would be using one…. I’m obsessed with numbers and data!

I like your new colors and font size. I think it’s the perfect size actually. Do you design your own blog template / theme? I’ve been thinking about playing around with mine but that might end up to be a disaster.

I am obsessed with numbers and data too! Even though none of my numbers are super impressive I love looking at them several times after each run, haha!

I purchased this WordPress theme from https://www.pipdig.co and then customized it myself — but it is SUPER easy to customize. You don’t need to know any HTML or CSS. They make it super simple! I will tweet you some more info 🙂

I want a sectional so badly, but the little step into our living room makes it tough because I’m never sure if it’ll fit. But maybe I don’t want a sectional if they fall apart! haha. I hate our chairs right now. They’re beat up and make my back hurt.

I am always tweaking the font of my blog. I want something easy to read but not too big! Yours looks nice!

Thanks Ali! I’m glad the font isn’t too big!

We’ve had two sectionals before this one and they were GREAT. I think this one is just particularly shitty for some reason. They come in all kinds of sizes so I am sure you can find one that works in your space. I’ve even seen mini sections that are made for studio apartments!

  6. Jennifer @ Run Jenny Run

Oh no, sorry to hear about your back! I like the new color…hmm strange I didn’t notice the font size change until you mentioned it. I like your Kristina signature. Is there a couch you’re eyeing?

      Thanks Jenny!

There are MANY couches I am eyeing up right now, haha! I haven’t found the perfect one yet though. I want it to be: really light beige with dark wood feet, ability to fold out into a full or queen size bed, microfiber and really soft … and just beautiful! haha

I love heart rate training. I’m kind of obsessed with it & love seeing what my HR does under different circumstances. 🙂

A massage will really help you out. Deep tissue. I have confronted so many chronic tightness problems in my shoulders and upper back as well as my acl and hamstrings from these massages. They are like injury prevention magic. I go for long massages (90 mins), it gives them time to really get into the muscles.
