Life’s Greatest Mystery

Thanks to Amanda @ Running with Spoons for hosting Thinking Out Loud Thursdays!Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Cecil bought me a new pair of Under Armour running capris for my birthday since the washing machine recently ate two pair of them. How do things just completely disappear from the wash?! Life’s greatest mystery. Thanks, cat!

2. Just another day in the office. There’s nothing quite like wrapping up a hard run and parking your butt in the sand for a minute to relax.

3. Let’s think of summer running this way!

4. To everyone who asked, Cecil really loves when I use him as a weight in my lifting routine. He is still a hefty 14-ish pounds so that’s like a decent sized dumbbell : )

My real upper body routine the other day was:

– Pull Downs 3 x 5 @ 60lbs
– Military Press 3 x 5 @ 30lbs
– Bent Over Rows 3 x 5 @ 35lbs
– Bicep Curls 3 x 5 @ 10lbs
– Tricep Extensions 2 x 15 @ 40lbs

All performed with free weights (except the extensions and pull downs, of course).  Once I buy the Catflexing book (ONLY $1.35 ON AMAZON) I’ll be able to put together a better routine.

5. And finally, I’ll leave you with this today …

So brave!

Do you smile/nod/wave/high 5/give a thumbs up to other runners?

– I’m never sure what to do and wait to see what the other person does!

I always say hi. If I am really working hard it comes out as a quick hand wave and nod…
Your weight amounts are impressive. I do my upper body with 5# hand weights, and it tires me out. I am trying to fit them in 3x’s/wk.
Cecil really knows how to pick out presents…hmmm, I haven’t gotten anything from my dogs lately…
Maybe they will have to go shopping!

I always give a smile but anything beyond that I usually wait to see what the other person does… although the same people tend to run my loop at the same time as me every night, so I kind of know what to do for them now, haha.

There is this one super friendly, happy runner who always puts his hand out to give a high five to other runners!

  2. August 7, 2014 / 9:36 am

Yep – I always wave and smile or say hi to runners, walkers, bikers…..It’s amazing how many people don’t respond though!!!

    • August 8, 2014 / 6:47 am

I know!! As a basic I always do a smile and then beyond that I try to take queues from the other person. I am always surprised when people don’t at least LOOK at you though. Like, really?! I guess they are just so in the zone 🙂

  3. August 7, 2014 / 9:46 am

Ah parking in the sand for a mid run break sounds great. I do that on the trails too, love it. I always give a little wave when I pass other runners. I feel if I just say good morning they may have headphones in and won’t hear me.

    • August 8, 2014 / 6:50 am

I listen to music so I say “hey” sometimes but I never know if the other person can really hear what I said because in my attempt to not shout it (bc I can’t hear anything with my earbuds in) I probably whisper it lol

  4. August 7, 2014 / 9:46 am

    1. Thank you for the shout out! 2. Isn’t it funny that we both wrote about mysteries today?? 3. I wish I could do 35lb rows, you are really strong! 4. I am stealing the Austin Powers meme for my FB page. 🙂

    • August 8, 2014 / 6:51 am

YES! When I saw your headline about mysteries I laughed. Great minds think alike 🙂

I used to be able to do 50lb rows but that was several years ago when I was much more committed!

  5. August 7, 2014 / 9:58 am

You are strong! I always say hi to folks I pass. The other night I passed a guy as I doing a loop and he must have been on the same loop because about a mile later I passed him again and he had picked it up quite a but for his end and i did a little whoop cheer and he laughed – I hope he doesn’t think I was too nerdy, but it was humid and I was impressed 🙂 My hubby found A black pair of my running shorts in the leg of jeans one day and they had been missing for awhile lol

    • August 8, 2014 / 6:52 am

Haha! I love that you let out a whoop! I bet that made him feel really awesome.

SO crazy about finding shorts in the leg of jeans!!! I am not surprised though. I have found underwear there lol

  6. August 7, 2014 / 1:07 pm

I always smile and wave at other people! Some people are nice and smile back, and some people look at me like I have a hidden agenda or something 😆 Sad that genuine kindness has become a reason to be suspicious. That’s okay — I’ll keep smiling anyways 😀

    • August 8, 2014 / 6:53 am

Yes! Keep smiling 🙂 Even if people don’t smile back it’s a good risk to take!

  7. August 7, 2014 / 1:07 pm

I always smile at fellow runners, but I don’t wave until I know they are looking at me. Some people will purposefully look away so that they don’t have to acknowledge me. How rude!

    • August 8, 2014 / 6:55 am

So rude!! I have noticed a lot of people just keep staring straight forward. I like to believe they are just in the zone. I know towards the end of speedwork nights I sometimes am concentrating so hard that I want to smile but I bet it doesn’t look like I am lol

  8. August 7, 2014 / 2:34 pm

haha free bikram running? That did make me laugh!
Awwh, that was very nice of your cat 😉

    • August 8, 2014 / 6:55 am

Unfortunately, I have come to find out that he stole the money from my wallet to pay for the capris. What a bum. Wish he’d get a job 😀

  9. August 7, 2014 / 11:45 pm

I always at least smile, and usually grunt some sort of hello. Not the friendliest thing ever, but I at least acknowledge their existence. Sometimes I pick up Zoey (she weighs 41 lbs!) just for making sure I can still do it. She squirms and requests to leave. I can only imagine what running in FL in summer is like. You go get your free Bikram, girl! And glad you have new capris. Are your washing machines in a public area? YOu may need to monitor them 🙁 Sad, but UA stuff is good and people want it.

    • August 8, 2014 / 7:00 am

Really? I thought dogs loved to be picked up and held! Cecil loves to be held just not cradled like a baby – he only tolerates that for about 10 seconds.

I think my capris must be where all of my missing socks are! Most of the other ladies here run in shorts, but I have been keeping an eye out for the capris!

  10. August 8, 2014 / 8:58 am

That washing machine is almost as big of a mystery as the dryer! Where do Matt’s socks go??? Lol. Cecil is adorable!

  11. August 8, 2014 / 9:58 am

When I pass by other runners, I first wait to see if they make eye contact. If so, I will give a little wave or say hi. I feel like every runner gives off a certain “vibe” and some are definitely more friendly than others.

  12. August 12, 2014 / 8:40 pm

Haha free bikram running – that was GREAT!
