Long Runs & Leg Day

Hi there! I hope you had a great weekend, full of fun activity or completely relaxing.

Since Adam got home from a long, international flight on Friday we mostly just hung out at home while he acclimated back to our time zone. Well, and let’s be honest more often than not we mostly just hang out at home on the weekends with our favorite little peanut :).

Saturday I ended up falling asleep in the afternoon while reading. I woke up with a foggy brain and headed to the gym to shake out the cobwebs.

I did three easy miles and then an upper body lifting session. It took me a minute to defog my brain but by the end of the workout I was feeling great!

We ate pizza and watched the first two episodes of Arrested Development after. That’s seriously my ideal Saturday night during the summer.

If you’ve been reading my blog for at least a year then you know every summer during the time between the end of the basketball season and the start of the football pre-season Adam and I re-watch the entire Arrested Development series! I think this is my favorite summer tradition (sorry, Harry).

On Sunday I got up and met my mom for a delicious breakfast and then headed to the gym for a run. I had planned to run outside in the evening, but I had a ton of energy and Adam was out with his dad so I decided to just go for it!

I did 10 miles on the treadmill. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve completed a double digit run indoors. The first 4 miles went by fast since I had a show to watch, but the final six miles were painful. Not physically, just boring.

Since I ran on the treadmill it was easy to fit in leg day after my long run. I know last week I said I wouldn’t advise doing leg day after a long run, but according to the experts it’s good to make your hard days extra hard and go easy on your easy days… so that’s what I did.

I’m sorry that you keep getting pics from the leg press machine, but this is the only leg day exercise that I do where my hands are free to use a camera!

190lbs, no big deal :).

After leg press and lunging, the final thing on my agenda was squatting. OMG. I literally had NOTHING left in me at this point and only managed to squeak out dumbbell squats, 3 x 10 @ 30lbs (using 15lb dumbbells).

For me, 3 x 10 @ 30lbs is like the equivalent of an 8 minute per mile runner barely hanging on for a 14 minute mile. Oh well, literally ALL THE EFFORT was there just to get those three sets done!

I’ll have my weekly recap from last week up tomorrow, I’m a little bit behind on video editing.

Hope you have a great Monday!

What was the best, most fun thing you did this weekend?!

Nice job getting in your leg work after the long run! I usually don’t strength train on the weekends. I think mentally its just easier for me to focus on running and save the other stuff for weekdays. But it is smart to get it all done on the same day so your easy day can be really easy!

On Sunday I was actually wondering if I should somehow try to fit my long runs in on weekdays! I think working out in general is so much easier on weekdays because I always do it at the same time and it’s just part of the routine. On weekends I generally do it at the same time, but what I do before/after is not always the same and that makes it harder.

Arrested Development is so hilarious. That line you quoted had me rolling the first time I ever saw the show–my husband and I always say that now: “How much could a banana cost? 10 dollars?”. You may have motivated me to watch a few episodes today. 🙂 Nice job on 10 miles on the treadmill–impressive!

Ahhh it’s just such a great show. Each actor fit his or her role so perfectly. Even though I’ve seen the entire series so many times I still get excited to start watching it! Lucille is definitely the best!

I can’t believe you do legs after a 10 mile run! And you still press 190 like it’s no big deal. You are bad ass!!!

I can’t believe it either, to be honest, haha!

I should have probably written this in the post so that people don’t think I’m being unhealthy when it comes to exercise, but 190lbs just isn’t a lot for me. I don’t say that to brag, but way back in middle school I could already leg press 300lbs with ease in PE. It’s honestly just my God given talent, I really don’t have to work very hard to lift what most people consider to be a lot.

And that is why I envy your strength!!! 🙂 But I know you also work hard, too!

Crazy how Sat night’s change right lol. This weekend we had an early dinner then layed in need watching movies. Like two old people lol.

10 miles on the dreadmill yikes….congrats on that. That’s a lot of mental toughness right there.

Most fun this weekend was definitely Humphreys Peak, highest point in AZ. It was amazing!

That sounds like the perfect Sat. night to me! 🙂 I like to think we are young people and just deserve the rest after all the working out and just plain work that we do all week!

I can’t wait to read your post about Humphreys!

So is it bad the first thing I thought of when you said Arrested Development is that band. I once again have never watched it. I am years behind in the tv world!!

Kudos to you for getting through 10 miles on the ‘mill! I don’t know when the last time I was on one was and I am not looking forward to the next.

I have never heard of the band! haha

I don’t think you’re behind in the TV world, most people didn’t watch AD which is why it got cancelled prematurely (in my opinion). It’s ssooo funny, I highly recommend it when you have free time. Even though it’s kind of old it’s not dated at all. The references and jokes are timeless!

I think this week I’m going to put more effort into my leg day. I kind of slacked the last two weeks and did extra core instead, but I need to get my squats and lunges back into play!

Nice job on your 10 miles on the TM. It really can be so boring; it’s hard not to quit early!

Oh man, it is SO hard not to quit early. That’s the beauty of running outdoors, even if you want to quit, you still have to make it back to your car/house!

I love the “It’s so hot outside, it’s hot inside”. TOTALLY. I did a treadmill run and I was so sweaty, you’da thunk I ran outside.

Hahaha I’m glad I’m not the only one getting super sweaty indoors!!! The a/c at my gym was set to 68*F but I swear running near the windows made it feel like it was 98*F in there!
