Memory Lane: Birthdays and Valentine’s Day 2005

I didn’t realize yesterday was Friends Day until Facebook told me.

Screen Shot 2016-02-04 at 9.49.17 PMI browsed through some of my old photo albums and started tearing up when I came across a picture from Barbara’s 21st birthday weekend.  I can’t believe it’s been almost a decade since this photo was taken! We stayed in a hotel, ate cake with our friends, drank vodka and laughed so hard we almost died.

Next month Barbara will turn 30. I cannot fathom that nine years have already gone by since this picture was taken. Even though it’s grainy, the lighting is terrible and I was a mess eating disorder wise, I remember being deliriously happy in this moment. It’s one of my favorite pictures ever and when I came across it yesterday I shed a tear.

Happy Friends Day, B. I can’t believe this is the year we turn 30. I can’t believe this is my life. It’s a good one and I feel exceptionally lucky to have it, but where did our youth go? I wish I didn’t spend so much time and energy wanting to be an adult… but I plan to retire early enough to enjoy my golden years to the fullest, haha.

Speaking of time passing by fast, this year Adam and I will celebrate 12 years together – and this February will be our 11th Valentine’s Day as a couple.

Yesterday I asked Adam to be my Valentine and he accepted. I’m pretty smug about it, tbh.

As far as Valentines go, he’s a pretty good one to have. Our first Valentine’s Day together was so crazy. I was a freshman in college living in a dorm with a roommate and Adam had just moved from Orlando back home to Miami. He drove up to Orlando to spend Valentine’s Day with me. We decided to rent a hotel room because of the whole roommate situation, *wink*.

We booked the hotel for two nights and for whatever reason after the first night the hotel asked us if we would mind moving to a different room. As we were walking over to the new room I looked across the parking lot and noticed Adam’s car was gone… IT WAS STOLEN!

There are a million reasons why I’ll never forget our first Valentine’s Day together and that one is at the top of the list! The police eventually recovered Adam’s car, but it was covered in chocolate stains and the thieves took everything — from CDs to text books and of course his laptop.

They couldn’t steal my love though.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist ;).

Ah, what a trip down memory lane!

Do you have any fun/crazy/weird Valentine’s Day stories?
Do you remember what you did for your 21st bday?

Time really does fly! Rob and I started dating in August 2005 so this will be our 11th Valentines day together (sometimes its tough to keep track!)
I was in college for m 21st bday and my friends from high school came to visit. All I know is I would die if I tried to celebrate now the way I was able to back then.

Frank and I are almost always traveling on Valentine’s Day and have been apart most years. As you know, this year, we’ll be in Florida visiting the fam. We usually don’t do much at all for it, but instead save our more romantic vibes for our anniversary.

Unfortunately, I got the flu for my 21st! I had a whole party planned out, but I was too sick to celebrate. I ended up spending my 21st in bed. My 22nd birthday made up for the loss though. 😉

I love memory lane. I love the experiences that I’ve gone through because they have accumulated to bring me to this point in my life and I have so many blessings to be thankful for.

21st birthday was Vegas with my mom, aunt, and best friend. It was great and unforgettable. Who goes to Vegas with their mom lol. Love her to death!!

It’s crazy to think about how fast time flies. I don’t have any crazy valentines day stories actually.

On my 21st birthday I got a stress fracture from a road race…I sure went out with a bang LOL.

That is horrible they stole his car and all of his stuff!!!!! Chocolate stains? I don’t get it. That is so cute you youngins’ got a hotel room!

Let’s see… My only really memorable V-day was one of the first ones I spent “with” Paul even though we weren’t together. I lived alone in an apartment and he lived with his parents about 20 min away. We had a HUGE snowstorm that weekend and he couldn’t drive over to see me because the roads were bad. I was really sad about it. I spent the day shoveling out my car… except I didn’t have a shovel, so I had to walk about 1.5 miles in the snow to the grocery store to buy a shovel, then walk back and shovel out my car. AUGH!

For my 21st birthday I was trying to figure out how to be a mom (I had my daughter the month before) so I didn’t do much partying and celebrating… but I had the greatest gift of all in my arms 🙂

My 21st bday was interesting. My boyfriend dumped me a day before my birthday and my friends all tried to make me feel better. I was so intoxicated that I really had NO memory of anything that happened. But there were pictures of evidence 😉 Maybe you can give me some car tips because my car recently got stolen as well! Except it ended up getting wrecked and totaled.

I saw about your car on Instagram — that sucks!

That sucks about the breakup too, but in hindsight it was just the start of a new, better chapter, right?! 🙂

His car was covered in chocolate?! Those thieves must have been stealing chocolate and cars all over the place. Talk about an adventurous first Valentine’s Day.

It is pretty crazy to think about how long friendships last. I love February because it’s all my oldest friends’ birthdays. They’re turning 30 and I’m realizing I’ve known them for 27 years. It’s just…crazy.

WOW 27 years of friendship, that’s so wonderful!

Yes! The car had chocolate stains everywhere … even on the roof. I can’t even imagine what went down inside of that car!

  11. Jennifer @ The Final Forty

Oh man…so crazy to think back on friendships. Makes me feel SOOOOO FREAKIN’ OLD sometimes, haha. That is QUITE the first Valentine’s Day story, though…that’s crazy!
