Mission Accomplished!!!

In yesterday’s training recap post I mentioned that over the weekend I worked on a fun project.

That project was re-organizing my closet from top to bottom! You may think you have seen messy closets before, but you haven’t seen what my closet looked like.

If you have a few minutes, you can see the whole project from start to finish in my latest vlog (including an embarrassing peak at what my closet looked like BEFORE it got organized):

I can’t believe I’m actually sharing what it looked like before! ?

I ended up taking literally EVERYTHING out of my closet in two rounds. First the right side of the closet and then the left, and poured the contents on my bed.

I knew if I put everything on my bed I would be forced to actually organize things quickly. Otherwise I would probably just leave everything on the floor for ages. I hate cleaning/organizing/sorting stuff out, but I love the end result!

After dumping stuff on my bed I headed out to Home Goods and bought some cute closet organizers :).

Cecil gave them his stamp of approval by sitting in all of them. That’s the official cat way of saying something can stay in the house.

Eventually everything got sorted and added back into the closet! Here’s a sneak peak from when I was just about done:

If you watch the vlog you’ll be able to see the entire closet!

I ended up having two bags of trash and one bag of clothes and shoes to donate that I haven’t worn in ages. I got rid of ALL of my heels. I haven’t worn high heels since I was in grad school and I have zero desire to get back into them.

I do have a gift card to DSW though and I plan to go purchase some new shoes asap because the closet floor is looking a little empty now!

I want to organize Adam’s closet next but he says he thinks his closet is fine the way it is. Hmmmm! He is generally MUCH more organized than I am when it comes to house stuff. When it comes to arranging a vacation or things to do, I’m definitely the more organized one. We balance each other out!

Do you like to clean/organize/tidy things?

Your new closet looks great! I love organizing and tidying. Actual cleaning I’m a bit ‘meh’ on (especially washing dishes). The Container Store just opened near me and I can not wait to check it out.

And just spent the last half hour planning my dream closet… You are killing my productivity today 🙂

Hahahah I love it! Oh man, if I could do a dream closet … I have BIG ideas for that! But I held back because I reminded myself I am literally the only person who ever sees the inside of my closet. Even Adam uses a different closet so it’s just me (and Cecil)! If I ever did a dream closet I would have to make all guests take a tour through the closet! 😀

It looks great Kristina! I personally like the different patterned storage containers. They are all in those white/black/grey neutral colors so it works! I am glad you explained what the wand was because I was thoroughly confused! Maybe you can sell it on Ebay and use the money to buy some more clothes!!! 🙂

It’s so funny you organized your closet yesterday because yesterday I cleaned out and organized our entire storage area in our basement. Half of our basement is finished (though is a very 70s style… oh well just Paul’s man cave!) and the other half is a storage room with shelves and a cedar closet. Now granted, 50% of what is back there are all my Christmas decorations in storage tubs, but everything was just a MESS and I considered vlogging about it but then I did. 🙂

Ohhh I wish you had vlogged it!

I think the different storage containers are okay – they’re definitely growing on me! I initially assumed I would have to have mismatched ones, but after that first trip where I found all matching ones I got really excited about the idea of having everything matching. I’m just happy everything is decluttered now. The mess was really starting to stress me out. I would dip in to grab some clothes and then shut the door behind me so I didn’t have to think about the mess! haha

I actually love organizing even though I’m super messy. When I have a clean slate to work with, I love it! I love getting new pretty bins like the ones you got, etc. But my closets never stay tidy because I hate putting clothes away!

Hahah I hear ya! So far I have been good about putting clothes away neatly, but we’ll see how long this lasts!

Looks good!! I love organizing. I’m glad I’m getting ready to move soon so I will be forced to sort even more and only take what I need to my new place.

Oh YES! There is nothing like moving to help you declutter and finally decide what to keep and what needs to go! When we moved a couple of years ago I got rid of almost everything! Now I seem to be stockpiling junk again!

Great project. That needs to happen pretty often, I wish we did it a but more. We regularly do it for the kids so we can donate old clothes to other families. Keeps us clean and helps others out. Not a bad gig

That’s the best! With kids I can definitely see how you would need to do it often too!

Your comment made me realize I really need to donate some of my running shoes. I took a few pairs out of my closet so that it wouldn’t look like all I have are 20 pairs of running shoes, but I just moved them to another closet. It’s hard to give them up since they have special meaning since I ran special races in them, but I definitely don’t need them anymore and maybe someone else could enjoy them.
