While I started my college career at UCF in Orlando (and then went to FIU for a year), I ened up graduating from FAU in Boca Raton. The FAU mascot is the burrowing owl (because we have a ton of them on campus, plus owls are wise).
A few years ago FAU made it into a bowl game that was actually played on ESPN! I watched with my dad and showed him how we do the Hoot Salute down in south Florida! (Yes, we think this makes us look like owls).
For many years my dad and I were not close at all. It wasn’t until I went to grad school full time and was juggling that on top of teaching a section of Public Speaking to freshman/sophomores and working full time as a public relations manager that we grew close.
My dad is the hardest working person I know, and he would always remind me to be grateful for the opportunities I was given. I really relied on my dad’s pep talks during that time, and we’ve grown so close since then.
When I ran my second half marathon in February my dad got up at 4AM to drive to Orlando to see me before the race.
When I crossed the finish line he took so many photos that I felt like the paparazzi had somehow mistaken me for a really sweaty celebrity.
My dad played my bib number in the lottery and won $400! : )
Adam says because my dad has never said “no” to me in my entire life I sometimes think I’m a princess who should always get her way. My dad says, “that’s right.”
Hah, thanks Dad!
PS: I can’t forget Adam who is the best cat dad! <3
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there today!!! I hope you have a really special day!
– Mr. Running Schlub I hope you had a great Father’s Day half marathon!
