My Favorite At Home Strength Training Videos to Follow

The early bird gets the worm and I am now the early bird! I forgot to mention in my blog post yesterday that the reason I am getting up at 5AM now is because my team at work decided to try out a new schedule (7am-4pm). Yesterday I was first in the office at 6:48am!

Traffic getting into and out of Miami between 8am-10am and 5pm-7pm isΒ unbearable. With this new schedule those of us who commute get to miss most of the heavy congestion which is AMAZING! Now when I arrive to work I may be a little bit tired, but I’m not frustrated/angry because I’ve had to sit in bumper to bumper traffic for 1.5 hours! I’ve noticed this simple change has made me a much happier and more positive person throughout the day!

I also love that I’m home around 5-ish which means even in the winter I get to run with a little bit of sunlight! It honestly gives me such a mental boost to come out of work and see the sun!

Last night it was tough getting in my run though. Not only am I still getting over this sinus infection, but I must have eaten something bad because my stomach was in knots (tmi.. sorry).

When I got home I didn’t feel like eating anything besides brussels sprouts. I went 29 years of my life avoiding sprouts and now I live for them!

I like baking them sometimes, but the best is when you brown them up a little bit in EVOO and then drizzle them with a mixture of balsamic vinegar and low sodium soy sauce. Literally tastes like HEAVEN.

So, I mentioned in my weekly training recap that I’ve been slacking on strength training since we moved into the new house. I’ve been spoiled for the last few years always have a free, nice gym to go to in the apartment complexes I lived in. Adam is building us a gym at the house, but it won’t be ready for a few more weeks.

Until then I decided just this week that I better find some good at home strength workouts to do. I’ve been casually watching Carly Rowena on YouTube for about a year and have always used her vids for workout ideas. The other morning I started watching her At Home Workout videos and thought maybe you would be interested in them too!

Here’s a good one for working your legs and backside:

This shoulder and arm workout is filmed in the gym, but if you have free weights at home you can easily do this routine at home:

Here are three good HIIT routines that can be done at home:

You can find a lot of other Carly workout videos HERE. She also posts daily on Instagram and Snapchat!

Obviously I like her a lot! If you watch any of her videos let me know what you think!

Do you follow any fitness YouTubers?
Where do you get your at home workout ideas/routines from?

I think that great that you have earlier hours to avoid the traffic! My workouts come from all over the place. Besides BBG, I get some from Pinterest and make some up on my own. Its always fun to try something new!

It’s sooooooo nice but now when 9pm rolls around I am a zombie! πŸ˜€

I work 7-3:30 and I love it! Leaving work around 5 usually doubles my commute time, so I love that I get to save a half hour every night by not sitting in traffic. I am very much NOT a morning person, but once you get used to going to bed earlier it isn’t so bad.

Talk to me about brussel sprouts. What do the taste like? I only remember trying them once as a kid and they were soggy and gross. But I love pretty much every other vegetable…so maybe I am missing out.

Hmmm that is such a good question! The only description that’s coming to mind is “they taste like brussels sprouts” LOL

I would definitely give them another try if you like every other veggie. Brown them up a little bit in a pan coated in EVOO and they will be crispy on the outside…. so good!

That new schedule is awesome. Isn’t it amazing how something as simple as avoiding traffic can change our whole mood and demeanor. Along with that, I agree it’s amazing to walk out of work and still have daylight. I feel like the day is over when I get home and it’s dark within an hour. Dark = bedtime lol

I think Mrs Schlub would have some questions if i was watching these workout videos. I go back to simple weight training from when I played sports. Keeping it pretty simple.

It’s so interesting how something so small like that can change the whole day!

LOL, you would have some explaining to do!!!

  4. Lisa @ TechChick Adventures

I am super lucky to not have any traffic issues. I am 6 mins (or 8 mins, depending on which location I am working at) from my office. That makes me very spoiled, dashing out the door at the last second. I used to live in a bigger city and got used to the “city traffic” but now I get a bit anxious when I have to drive on the expressway because I don’t encounter traffic that much! I’m still thinking about getting my scheduled changed to end my workday at 3:30 so I can be home with the kids. Not sure my bosses will go for that!
Thanks for the video recommendations. I’m always on the lookout for a video I can do!

UGH that sounds amazing!!!! 8 mins! I am so jealous!

So glad your new schedule is working out for you! I am a little jealous though. And amused – I never thought I’d see the day of Kristina the Morning Person! We are still on blah-ville 8-5, but I live 4 miles from work so traffic issues really aren’t that terrible. I definitely wish I had more flex scheduling, though. Maybe even starting later and leaving later because I tend to be more productive in the evenings.

I don’t usually follow social media workout gurus, but I have gotten some great strength training ideas from the muncher cruncher IG account.

Trust me, this is a very confusing time in my life. My body has no idea what’s happening. When I wake up in the morning the only reason I am able to drag myself out of bed is because my brain is so confused! πŸ˜€

4 miles to work!!! That sounds like a dream!

I love following fitness Youtubers and instagram accounts for fitness inspiration. Dance Fitness with Jessica is a good Youtube channel! I love to dance along with the routines in the privacy of my own home (where no one can see how goofy I look!)

  7. Karen Bayne

I like new home video ideas. I am flagging these to watch later πŸ™‚ I started trying to do more at home which is totally new for me, but I like some videos by Amy I have been watching, I have her 30 minute dumbbell a few times now. https://www.youtube.com/user/BodyFitByAmy

The schedule is a big change for you!! That is great it makes your commute easier. I have always had to be at work early and it took some getting used to, but I really love getting out earlier in the day. I just do not do as well when I worked late till 5 or 6
Brussels sprout are good for you :0) It is funny how we eat things as we get older that we wouldn’t touch when we were young .

Thank you for the link! I’ve heard of Amy but I’ve never watched her videos. I’ll def have to give her a shot now that I am in need of at home workout ideas!

  8. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

You are on my schedule now! Welcome to the early-early workers world. I think it’s awesome that you and your team can make your own hours kind of!

I live in Miami too, so I know how painful the traffic is down here.

I actually get my at home workout routines from YouTubers! I follow many of them. Whitney Simmons is one of my current favorites, although her workouts are designed to be done at the gym (unless you have the right equipment at home of course).

I’ve never heard of Whitney but I am going to look her up right now!! Thanks!

Isn’t it amazing how much traffic you can avoid 1 hour earlier? I used to get to work at 7 and traffic was never a problem… but at 7:30 it’s insanity.

I do a lot of weights at home, my partner (Roger, aka Rundelmort) tells me what to do with a kettlebell and/ or a weigh bar.

  11. Helly

I love working early and getting out early..the earlier the better for me, lol!!! A big reason I left my previous job was because of the commute. It was pretty awful both ways and not the way I liked starting my day or arriving home after.

I view a few Blogilates videos on Youtube every once in awhile. She’s the only one I’ve seen but maybe I’ll give your girl a shot πŸ™‚

I like blogilates too! Carly is definitely different than Blogilates though. It’s much more after weight lifting than high reps with body weight. I think you’ll like it! Variety (of workouts) is the spice of life!

  12. Megan @ Meg Go Run

Okay, that makes COMPLETE sense to change working hours! Do you require your employees to take an hour lunch? Could they take a 1/2 hour lunch and leave early?
Megan @ Meg Go Run recently posted…Running in Harpers FerryMy Profile

    1. Kristina

Hmm we are pretty flexible. Some people take an hour lunch break, some take a shorter break to leave early (when needed), some take a two hour lunch break and think no one notices πŸ™‚ As long as work is getting done we have a good amount of flexibility. The main issue with leaving early is that we work in the service industry and many of our clients work until 5 or 6pm … and clients on the west coast or internationally will work even later than that our time, and we have to try to be as available as possible.

I ate the sprouts AFTER I was feeling better so I don’t think they were the culprit! I LOVE THEM!

  13. Megan @ Meg Go Run

PS. brussel sprouts make me crap my brains out… maybe they are the cause of your tummy troubles? I LOVE THEM THOUGH!!!

I have got to make some brussel sprouts–I love them and always forget to make them! I am glad the new schedule is working out because that makes a huge difference! I am really glad I can come and go as needed at my office (thus, I work a lot of hours from home). I follow Yoga By Adriene on YT. She has a very relaxed style and it gets me on my mat more often than not (from home so no excuses).
