My First 14-Miler Happens TONIGHT!

Tonight is the night: my first 14 mile run!

Am I nervous? YES!

Do I know I will survive? Yes!

Am I excited? Yes.

I know it’s a bit early in the week for a long run, but I have my reasons (which I will share soon).

I’m still trying to plan out exactly how this is going to work. I think I’m going to do 8 to 10 miles outside (depending on what time I am able to start) and then run to the gym at my condo complex and finish up on the treadmill.

It’s too hot out to do all the miles outside, and if I don’t start until 7:30 or later I really don’t want to end up running alone late at night.

Last night I just did an easy four mile loop … and somehow avoided the rain which was nice!

I should get my eyebrows waxed, but I really don’t like doing that so… oh well! 🙂

The 80% humidity wasn’t so nice. I felt like a human bug shield … so many bugs were sticking to my face. It was so GROSS. I don’t know where they all came from!

You see that pair of Brooks Adrenalines above? They are about to get retired. I always feel a bit sad when I have to put a pair out to pasture. The long run tonight will probably be their last big hurrah.

I’ve heard the Adrenaline 14s fit a bit different than the 13s which is making me nervous!! Anyone else wear the Adrenalines? Have you upgraded to the 14s yet?

Before I go I just want to share these pictures I found of my first cat ever, Leo.

He was literally the best cat ever!

He was really shy around new people, but so so so so sweet if he knew you. I had to leave him home with my parents when I went away to college because I lived in a dorm.

As soon as I moved into an apartment that allowed pets I brought him to live with me!

That was Adam’s first experience having a cat. I’m glad it went really well because that led us to getting little Cecil a bit later!

What was your first pet? When did you get him/her?

Any words of wisdom for my 14-miler tonight???

Good luck with your run 🙂
My first pet was the cat I have now – he is called Chilli. We now have another cat called Aristotle.

      Thank you, Dannii!

Aristotle is such a great name for a cat! I based my master’s thesis on Aristotle’s 5 cannons 🙂

Good luck – go nice and easy, a half + .9 miles warm up/cool down 🙂 I have GTS13s – yikes I haven’t read about the GTS14 fit! The nice thing (or bad thing haha)… I kind of hoard them when I see them on sale.. so I have 3 pairs of 13s lol… so they last me awhile.

I should have bought multiple pairs earlier this year when they were on sale for $75! what was I thinking?!

I’ll have to brave the 14s and let you know how it goes!

Good luck on your run! I think breaking it up will make it more manageable in the heat. We are having the crazy heat and humidity up here too! Happy Fourth!

Thank you! I’ve got some pretty good nervous energy going, which I think will work in my favor 🙂

  4. July 3, 2014 / 10:20 am

Have so much fun on your run tonight! I know it’s going to go great!

My run this morning was wicked buggy too and it was so annoying – I am not used to all the bugs (Cali doesn’t really have any) and I think they are one of my least favorite things about moving back home! haha

    • July 3, 2014 / 2:05 pm

The bugs are the worst! I really hate thinking about any of them flying into my mouth without me knowing… UGH!

  5. July 3, 2014 / 11:07 am

Good luck tonight! I’m sure it’s going to be great. 🙂 We have a lot of humidity here too and it’s so gross…just remember to hydrate hydrate hydrate! (I’m sure you already knew that though. 🙂 )

Good Luck, you will rock your run (or maybe you already did?). And Leo is a beautiful cat.

    • July 3, 2014 / 2:07 pm

Thank you, Leo was a cutie and he had the best personality – a mix of playful and calm. I love Cecil but he’s not a chill cat at all 😀

no sweat, it’s just 14 miles lol. it’s going to go awesome and can’t wait to see the post. good luck!

Well by now you are either already running or fixing to – I know that you will do a great job on your 14. It’s so exciting to run a new longest run!!!

  9. July 3, 2014 / 10:08 pm

I remember my first “longest” run and stepping out to conquer 14 miles. I was incredibly nervous, but very excited to see how far I had come. I have no doubt that you will be able to finish strong, Kristina. I have no advice about the new Adrenalines because I had to switch to a neutral shoe (Glycerin). I’m sure you will adjust. Or, you can always buy the same shoe online for a discount!

Hmm, I’m not sure what happened to my comment, but I see you had a successful run….way to go!!

What a cute kitty. I would die if I had to run 14 miles right now lol I am so proud of you pushing on in that crazy humidity!
