My Long Run Amused Me : )

I made it through the weekend alive! LeBron took his talents away from South Beach, Adam’s mom has been in town visiting and I was so, so, so overtired from all the events of last week, but I survived : )

On Saturday night this party animal actually went to bed at 8PM!

I didn’t get my long run in until Sunday late afternoon. On the schedule was 12 miles, 10 easy and 2 fast finish.

It rained earlier in the day on Sunday and was super hot + humid, so I started my run on the treadmill and finished up outdoors once the weather was more manageable.

That turned out to be a much better combination than starting outdoors and then running on the treadmill which I attempted to do last week. Going from super hot to cold is just not good for me.

I couldn’t help but feel amused at how easy 12 miles seems these days. When did that happen?!

I’m not even really intimidated by the fast finish miles anymore!

The countdown to Portland is on… and I’m feeling pretty confident that I’m at least going to make it to the end in one piece!

Screenshot taken on Sunday. We’re one day closer today! The race doesn’t really start at 10AM, it’s starts at 7am pacific which is 10am eastern (the time zone I am in).

My achilles is being stubborn. It’s still a bit tight, though a lot less than it was last week.

On Friday I went on a bit of a shopping spree on the Brooks website (I think new shoes will help with the achilles).

My new shoes, along with a bunch of other things, will be arriving today! I can’t wait to get home from work and unpack my box!!!

That’s what you do when LeBron James breaks up with your team, you go shopping.

Okay, and now as promised, I am going to share the winner of the Hardrock 100 in case you weren’t following along this weekend.

No surprise at all, the winner was Kilian who set a new course record by completing the run (which includes 67,984 feet total elevation change) in 22:41:33. CRAZY!!! Kilian is unreal.

Julien Chorier, came in second, with a time of 25:07. So yeah, Kilian pretty much killed the course.

And that was my weekend!

Oh, and Adam, his mom and I also went to see the Planet of the Apes movie. I thought the story was good, but I was annoyed by the ape sounds.

Not sure what I was expecting to hear, hah!

What was the last movie you saw in the theater? Any recommendations?

Are you using a countdown app for your next big race?

Wow!! 22 hours is amazing! We have the same shoes but I got the pink ones “) I can not believe you just said 12 miles feels easy!! Runners envy happening right now! lol I want to feel that way, summer is killing me. Way to go 🙂

    • July 14, 2014 / 9:07 pm

I can’t believe I said it either!!! Keeping up a base of 10+ miles since February is paying dividends now!

  2. July 14, 2014 / 9:56 am

That is awesome that you’re at the point where 12 is NBD for you! I am sorry about Lebron. Paul says at they kept Bosh. (You should see my Bosh impression. I’ll take a pic and post it sometime.)

    • July 14, 2014 / 9:07 pm

OMG yes! I have to see it!!!!!!!

I am really glad we kept Bosh. He has taken a lot of heat down here in Miami (hah!) but Adam and I have always been big fans of his.

  3. July 14, 2014 / 12:37 pm

I wish you a quick emotional recovery from your LeBron break-up. Losing your favorite player is never fun (I feel the same sense of attachment when it comes to football). That is awesome that you are feeling so good about running longer distances. You will get to the point where running 13, 14, 15, miles feels like ‘just another run’ especially if ultras are in your future. I want to see Planet of the Apes and The Fault in Our Stars. It’s been a few weeks since I have seen a movie and it would be a great way to escape the heat!

    • July 14, 2014 / 9:10 pm

I hardly ever go to the movies. I get really antsy sitting in one spot with only one thing to do for that long. I always feel the urge to multitask and it kills me that I’m not able to just switch on my phone and flip through some stuff while I’m in the theater. I probably need a digital detox!

I can’t wait for the day that I can say 15 miles seems like just another run. Sounds impossible 🙂

  4. July 14, 2014 / 2:54 pm

I forgot to mention in my race recap how often someone on our team or nearby was updating about hard rock. It was awesome. I need to read the recaps now 🙂

    • July 14, 2014 / 9:11 pm

Haha that’s awesome! I bet it’s a really big deal there.

Kilian was just absolutely phenomenal. I bet he could have come in at 21:XX if he really put some effort in the first half!

    • July 14, 2014 / 9:12 pm

      Thank you so much 🙂

I’ve been keeping up a base of 10+ miles since my last half marathon in February. Continuing to do double digit runs every weekend since then despite not having a race on the calendar is really paying off now!

  5. July 14, 2014 / 3:50 pm

Nothing like a run to get over a break-up!
I got new shoes this weekend too 🙂

  6. July 14, 2014 / 7:33 pm

Great job on your long run! I love that 12 miles feels like no big deal to you! 🙂 I can’t comprehend running for 22 hours and destroying the lead like that. Wow!

    • July 14, 2014 / 9:15 pm

Kilian’s lead was just insane. A total testament to his greatness as a runner. He even stopped to take pictures along the course!

  7. July 14, 2014 / 8:23 pm

Your e-Bib was hilarious! The GTS are things of beauty, I need to buy some new ones soon. That is is funny you posted about a countdown app as I was just thinking about that – do you have any recommendations?

    • July 14, 2014 / 9:18 pm

The one I am using is called Countdown Star Free — Heather at Girl Goes Running recommended it and I like it. It’s simple and pretty 🙂

  8. July 14, 2014 / 9:36 pm

We are going to have to agree to disagree on the whole LeBron thing. I am from Ohio and have a strong dislike for him, but I hated him before he left! I guess I just wish he was a little more humble and nice. (He used to come into the restaurant my ex worked in and everyone said he was very rude and ungrateful). That being said I will never like him, but I really don’t care thaaaat much. Okay I’m done haha! Anyways that is awesome that 12 miles feels easy for you! Isn’t it crazy that only running 8 miles is like nothing?! I remember when I thought that was an insane amount.

    • July 15, 2014 / 7:09 am

I can definitely see him being arrogant … I think that part of him comes through in interviews. But, I still think he’s the greatest player we have in basketball right now and that he’s fun to watch. I have heard a lot of people say they wish athletes were more humble — more like Peyton Manning than Richard Sherman — I guess I’m different in the sense since I really don’t care. They are entertainers to me, not my friends, so what they do outside of their sport is really not that much of a concern to me. Well to some degree…. OJ Simpson/Aaron Hernandez type stuff is obviously crossing the line!

  9. July 14, 2014 / 9:45 pm

    Hahaha, I’ve totally passed out at 8pm before…ESPECIALLY when I’m marathon training… 😉

Isn’t it amazing how something that once seemed so daunting — like a 12-mile long run — now feels almost easy?! You are KILLING it! 😀

    • July 15, 2014 / 8:16 am

Thank you! It feels a bit crazy to head out for a 12 miler and not feel intimidated!

  10. July 16, 2014 / 6:41 pm

I can’t wait for long runs to seem short/easy/not daunting! Even when the run is GREAT I still go into it worried it’ll be tough!
