My Weekend + The Start of a New Training Cycle

What a weekend! On Friday afternoon Adam and I drive over to Venice, FL which is clear across the state on the west coast. It’s a really pretty little city right on the gulf.

Friday night we went to see an NXT show (wrestling). We were supposed to meet up with my dad who lives nearby but in the end he wasn’t able to come. That was definitely a bummer but we still had a fun night and got to see the champ, Finn Bálor. The venue was really small, which is typical for NXT house shows, but the crowd was super into it which made it a lot of fun.

Saturday afternoon we made our way back home so that Adam could go see his teammates in their MMA fights that night. I didn’t go with him because I had a date with Jim, sometimes spelled as Gym 😉 .

I got in a good night of lifting and enjoyed having the place almost completely to myself (there was only one other person there)!

After the gym I made myself a delicious smoothie to sip while I watched the Heat game. I don’t know what button I hit on the TV but I watched the entire game dubbed over in Spanish. Afterwards I watched part of Independence Day in Spanish too. It’s a good thing I’ve seen Independence Day enough times to know exactly what’s being said without needing to know the language. Such a classic movie! haha

Yesterday Adam and I braved the storm and headed out to the Cowboys v. Dolphins game. It POURED out so badly that even my poncho wasn’t enough to keep me truly dry.

The rain was also FREEZING (temps dropped into the mid 70s!!!)! Adam and I ended up leaving early because we so badly wanted to change into warm, dry clothes – plus the Dolphins were playing poorly. I am sure all of you northerners reading this are laughing at what wimps we are! 😀 I don’t know how I’m going to handle New York next month!

Noticeably missing from this weekend was running. My only running plans included getting in about five miles on Sunday, but those weren’t mandatory. Mostly I wanted to strength train and ensure my legs were raring and ready to go today as I begin my new half marathon training cycle!

After almost two months off from a structured training plan I am beyond ready to get going! LET’S DO THIS!

Best part of your weekend?
Are you doing any cooking this week for Thanksgiving?
– What is your favorite non-pumpkin and non-apple pie Thanksgiving related dessert?

You were in Venice?! That’s right near me! I hope you waved as you went by on the interstate hehe.

I love Eaton Mess for dessert on Thanksgiving, and my mom makes a mean GF chocolate pecan pie. We also always have cookies and cupcakes, because my mom loves an excuse to buy GF treats we usually don’t have in the house.

      Thanks for the dessert ideas!

I had never been to Venice before but I really want to go back and see more of it. We got into town just around sunset on Friday and left right around noon on Saturday so no time to explore!

Wow I didn’t know you two were wrestling fans. Of course having a 7yo bit I had to show him all about wrestling lol.

Mrs Schlub does all the cooking for us, we are a blessed family ?

Hahhaa of course you would have to show him wrestling! Do you guys watch NXT at all? Adam has always been a big wrestling fan but I’ve just started getting into it. I like watching the NXT guys and divas! Enzo, Big Cass and Carmela are so much fun to watch!

Paul told me it was pouring in Miami and I wondered out loud if you and Adam were at the game. I will tell him you braved the rain and “cold” 😉

I don’t have to make ANYTHING for T-giving this year! We are only going to Paul’s parents (change of plans) and his dad takes care of EVERYTHING.

After we left the stadium I saw pictures of people at the Chicago game with all of that snow … I would have died! I don’t know how you guys handle several months of winter up north – brrrrrrr!

I am so jealous yo had the gym to yourself! My gym people are getting on my nerves lately…no idea about my box they aren’t supposed to enter lol
Wooohoo, time to get training rolling with no aches and pains!
I still have no idea what i am doing for Thanksgiving…I just want off work lol

  5. November 23, 2015 / 12:57 pm

Oh no, not the 70s! Sounds freezing! Let me know when you want me to pack up some of our snow to send down to you 🙂

I’m making two pies for Thanksgiving: pumpkin and cherry. I’m not a fan of cherry pie at all, but family requested it and it lets me show off my lattice crust skills. I’m also making some mini single serving dessert cups. One will be peanut butter cup inspired, and the other is Twix inspired. The twix one is based off of a pie recipe I haven’t tried yet, so fingers crossed.

Yay! I love starting new training cycles, when everything is fresh and new and exciting. Here’s to an awesome training cycle!

  7. November 23, 2015 / 4:55 pm

Haha the 70s was freezing!! I wish…that is super warm for us these days! It was in the 20s at the start of my race yesterday. I’m not ready for those kinds of temps yet!!

Venice looks gorgeous!!! I’m not a huge pie person so last year I baked cookies and decorated them to look like turkeys. There are a ton of ideas on Pinterest!

I watched football in freezing sometimes. but I did not leave before match end.
