Negotiating with Myself During a Long Treadmill Run

If you’re seeing this post on Monday it means my hosting company got their life together and allowed me to actually upload pictures and things!

I had such a nice, relaxing Saturday. I met my mom for breakfast and then went over to see the new condo she just bought. It’s very cute and will look amazing once she has all of her new things in it!

Then I went shopping for some craft supplies and groceries too (if we’re friends on Snapchat – @KristinaRunning – then you’ve already seen this!):

Basically, I needed to buy some St. Paddy’s Day supplies because Adam and I are going to a WWE NXT show on Thurs. and my favorite wrestler, Finn Bálor, is Irish! It’s sort of a long story to tell, but Finn used to call himself “The Real Rock N Rolla” so I made a poster that says Shamrock N Rolla with some shamrocks attached!

I also bought groceries to make these no bake brownies (and added chocolate chips). If you watch my snapchat video from above you’ll see the process, which is super simple. I basically just put all of my ingredients in our Ninja Pro blender and that was that.

How do they taste? Well… very healthy. Adam asked, “did you forget to add sugar?” ? The recipe didn’t call for adding chocolate chips on top, but I’m super glad I did because they would be almost inedible without them.

I think part of the issue is that it calls for using applesauce and maybe I shouldn’t have gotten the unsweetened kind. Or maybe I should have added honey. I might try the recipe again with a few other modifications and see how it goes because I do like the consistency of no bake desserts.

Anyway, on Sunday I woke up late and went to the gym to get my 8-miler in. The spring break crowds have descended upon Fort Lauderdale and Miami, so for the next few weeks I’m only going to be able to go running at the beach on the weekends if I get up super early so I can avoid the crowds.

I haven’t completed a long run on the treadmill in a while, so it took me a bit to get into a good grove. By “a bit” I mean about five miles! I think you really need to be in a certain frame of mind to do a long run on the treadmill and since I haven’t done it in a while, I just wasn’t there mentally at first.

I had to negotiate with myself a lot to get in the full eight miles. First I said “you only have to do 5” then it was 6, then 7 then 7.5 and finally it just made sense to do the full 8, haha.

In cat news, I ordered some notebooks a little while ago and they finally arrived! Tell me they aren’t the cutest notebooks ever! I love that the face and tail are in different spots on different notebooks.

Also, on Wednesday it took me THREE HOURS to get to work due to a severe motorcycle accident. While I was sitting on the interstate with my car in park I did some online shopping :). Instagram showed me an ad for these watches and I think I placed my order within 30 seconds!

I got the white one for myself and the leopard one for my mom :). I don’t know why they’re wearing glasses but it’s really cute!

    I always negotiate with myself when I run on a treadmill! Its different than running outside because you can stop whenever or add on distance as you go, so I always try to get myself through a few miles and then I usually end up doing the amount I initially planned for. Great job getting it done!

      Exactly! It’s so easy to be like, “I’m not into this, maybe I should just go home.”

      Outdoors you have to get yourself back home no matter what, plus there’s more to look at and it’s easier to zone out. I find it literally impossible to zone out on the treadmill so it’s all about finding a way to stay distracted, haha.

    I cannot run long on the treadmill. 8 miles is actually the furthest I’ve ever run on the TM.

      Right?! Such a good price too!

      I used to do all my long runs on the treadmill, but now I just can’t imagine it. After eight miles yesterday I was mentally DONE and so ready to go home and do something else!

    I negotiate mileage on runs all the time. Luckily, I just have to get out the door and get the first couple under my belt, and I complete what I was supposed to do…
    It was nice here this weekend–60*–which felt wonderful. But, we are back to reality today 38*, and some freezing rain and sleet. That is spring in NH.

      Ahhh that sounds like such great weather! Even 38* sounds nice. I wish winter wasn’t over here because we totally skip spring altogether and go straight into summer weather!

    I would be soooo annoyed by spring break crowds.

    I agree, you have to be in a certain frame of mind to not only run on the treadmill, but run long on the treadmill! Congrats on getting it DONE.

      Apparently the spring break crowds are rowdy this year! A fight has already broken out at Fort Lauderdale beach and someone was shot and killed on Miami Beach! Yikes!

    I have only run once on the treadmill in over a year. It took everything I had to make it 3 miles. Glad you were able to get in you mileage! I would get sick of the spring breakers! I am not a big crowds person though. I love people but not the masses. 🙂

      I don’t mind that the crowds are there, I just hate dodging between groups … and parking becomes such a nightmare! It really makes me miss living closer to the beach!

    Hahaha, Cecil with his head in the bag handle!!! See, THIS is why pets are the best. Everything they do is hilarious and cute!

    I also trick myself into going longer on the treadmill. I’m always like “1 more mile” or “15 more minutes” and then I slowly add more. “If I could do this, three more minutes are nothing! …6 more minutes are nothing! …10 more…” And so on.

    ha! I love the TM negotiating, that is must always lol I maybe try the TM again and see if my feet like it. That is a long time to sit in traffic!
    Texture is everything when it come to dessert items, I would try sweet applesauce for sure or maybe the cinnamon sweet 🙂
    These darn NIke’s are may last purchase, but they do feel good, but I will miss my Brooks!

    I’ve done the same thing with long runs and treadmill runs. Sometimes the only thing to “rescue me” if you will is just getting on there…I definitely find myself counting down no matter how far the run on the treadmill.

    Love those notebooks! I just had to wait for a train for 20 mins (NOT quite the same as your wait) and I got a lot of email cleaned up. I tried to find the positive in the situation 🙂 (but it was hard!!)
    You know me, treadmill lover. We are in the process of finishing our basement where our treadmill lives, so soon (oh, in 5 short months haha) it will be even better than it is now. I’m excited to have the basement to myself, with no spiders!!

    Here’s a small town question coming as my commute used to only have 3 four way stops, now I go through a light…

    When you do have a three hour traffic jam, do you ever worry about being low on fuel? Do you stop your car? How do you know when to shut off and when to stay on?

      Ah, that commute sounds so nice!

      My commute on a regular day is 45 minutes, so whenever my tank is looking low I fill up before I get on the highway! One time I wasn’t paying attention and had to stop at a gas station only like 3 blocks from my office because I definitely wasn’t even going to make it that far! hah!

      We have big signs up on the highway that update us on traffic. If there is at least one lane open traffic will inch along at a snail’s pace, but because we’re still moving I can’t put my car in park. However, when all lanes are blocked and we’re just sitting there with no hope of moving I definitely put my car in park.

      To pass the three hours I did some online shopping, replied to emails, read the news and watched a few videos on YouTube!

      The worst thing about last Wednesday was that on the way home there was another accident and it took me two hours to get home! In one day I spent five hours just commuting to and from work. That was so rough. I think karma must have been getting me for something I did! haha

    I love that you negotiated with yourself on the treadmill. I ALWAYS have to do this when I am swimming laps in the pool. Whatever works, right?

    The family that lives across the street from me is heading to your area for Spring Break. It must be a really popular time. It must feel good to live in a place where people travel to for a vacation and some warmth! 🙂
