New Hair Cut & Color!

On Saturday I texted Richard, my awesome hair stylist, to book an appointment. He was able to fit me in at 5:15pm yesterday, so when 4 o’clock hit I zoomed out of the office.

Moral of the story? If you want to force yourself to leave work on time book a hair appointment :D.

Up until I arrived I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to have done. I was thinking about going ombre again, but had a last minute change of heart. I decided to get rid of the blonde and go warm.

I found this pic online and said, “Richard, is this possible for me?”

He replied, “absolutely, let me whip up the recipe” and headed to the back shouting out formula numbers that he was mixing together.

Three hours later, and ZERO FOILS, later I came out looking like this:

Not having to sit for foils was amazing. Richard used a new technique that is basically a mask that is applied to your hair that hardens into a shell. I have no idea how it works but I loved that it reduced my time in the chair by about an hour!

It’s hard to tell under artificial lighting, but he did an amazing job and my hair came out exactly as expected. I’ll have to snap a pic today in natural lighting so you can see it better.

Now about those beachy waves in the example pic. I looooove loose curls but my hair will only hold them for about an hour even with sea salt spray on third day hair. Richard gave me an idea for how I can try and get them to last longer but it sounds way outside of my ability. It involves cutting strips of cloth, rolling my hair around the cloth and then knotting it and applying heat. Have you ever tried anything like this before? Was it hard/easy/crazy?

I’m game for giving it a go. Maybe I’ll set aside time while we’re on the cruise :).

Do you like going to have your hair done?
Are you able to get “beachy waves” in your hair?

Your hair looks great! My hair is naturally curly but sometimes I do looser curls with a curling iron. I’ve never heard of the cloth thing but it sounds kind of complicated!

      Thanks Lisa!

I think it sounds complicated too. I don’t know if I have the patience for it. I barely have the patience to blow dry my hair! 😀

I love the warm color!! Your hair cuts and colors always look awesome. I have slowly been considering getting a big girl hairdo…

Thank you! I have started thinking it makes me look older for some reason. I think I will go back to a lighter/cooler color combo for the summer, but I like this for now!

Oh you can do a similar thing with just a headband! Let me find it:

But I will say that I usually end up with half perfect curls and half hot mess, so YMMV. I’ve been perfecting my loose waves skills for a couple years now so if you want to give curling irons another shot, I have a lot of advice on technique and products! I’ve even managed to teach my sister how to curl her hair and she was also in the “hair doesn’t hold curl” camp.

New color looks amazing on you!

Thank you! I read the whole post and tweeted the link so I would remember it/be able to find it later. I’ll definitely give that a try. I love that the curls were still pretty after a messy night’s sleep!

Wow, your hair looks amazing!! I have to get in for some highlights. I think I’m long past due. If “beachy waves” means a big head of unmanageable curls and frizz, then yes, that’s exactly what I get when I go on vacation!! 😉

Hahahaha 😀 I’ve only had perfect beachy waves one time and that was when we spent a week in the Dominican Republic. I need to speak to Adam about possibly vacationing 365 days a year there so I can attain my dream of having that kind of hair all the time!

Looks great – I love the darker color on you!

I have naturally wavy hair so holding curl is not a problem for me, but I do have to style it a bit if I want the curls to be voluminous and smooth instead of a frizzy, cowlick-y mess. I actually just use a hair straightener to put curl in my hair – instead of pulling it straight over a chunk of hair I just twist it, works just as well as the curling iron!

Thank you! At first I was like “whoa, who is that?!” I guess I’ve had bits of blond in my hair for so long now that I forgot what I look like with all dark hair. I think it makes me look older, haha.

I have seen people use a flat iron in that way. I think the wand on my flat iron is too thick for me to do that. I have a curling iron that gets the job done, I just don’t know how to keep the curls in place for longer than 10 seconds :/.

Loved your hair. I saw it on snapchat last night and thought it looked so pretty.

I’m kind of weird because I don’t color my hair (yet) and I don’t like people to cut my hair either. I cut/style it by myself because I know exactly what I want, and how I want it. Therefore, I NEVER go to get my hair done.

Beachy waves are the look that I get every time I curl my hair, haha. Because my clean hair won’t really hold curls.

Thank you! Aside from some box dye when I was in college, I didn’t start dying my hair or getting low/high lights until two years ago when I finally admitted defeat to all of my grey hairs haha!

Well you already know I love it, lol!! I have naturally wavy hair so curls last on me. My good ‘ol trusty Wal-mart Conair curling iron works miracles 🙂
