Progression Run, Tight Hip, Sleepy Cat

On Saturday TimeHop reminded me that it’s been THREE YEARS now since I finished my first 5K!

Adam ran his first 5K that day too. He finished before me and said when Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” came on he hoped that I would show up and finish before the song ended. How cute is that (even though the song isn’t really about being stronger physically, haha) ? I did finish during Stronger but I had my earbuds in so I didn’t hear it! #IStillLoveRunning

On Saturday I decided to do a progression run on the treadmill. It was all good fun until I was done and started stretching.

At first I was like “YEAH” and then I was like NO. My right hip was so so so so so tight.

Tight hips shouldn’t happen to good people. I stretch every single day. I say my prayers and take my vitamins. I don’t understand it!

But I’m coping okay. Instead of sitting on the couch to watch TV I just do couch stretch on the floor all night. Why would you want to sit on the couch anyway?

My view from the floor:

Yes, Cecil thinks the kitchen island is his bed. Yes, I know some pet parents like to pretend they don’t allow their pets on the table but that’s not me. Life is short, dance like no one is watching and sleep on the kitchen island if you want!

I’m writing this on Sunday before the Superbowl so I don’t know the outcome yet, but I’m simultaneously rooting for the Panthers because of the Coach Shula connection with the Miami Dolphins and also hoping that Peyton wins and goes out on top! Go teams!

Did you watch the Superbowl? Thoughts on the game/halftime/best commercial?

Sorry your hip is tight again! Sitting on the floor is so much better than the couch because it forces you to move around. I’ve been addicted to my couch lately and I know its terrible because I lay in a hunched position on my computer. I do much better it the warmer months because I will stand at my counter on the computer, but in the winter I feel like I need to be under a blanket all the time!

I wonder if your recurring hip tightness could be due to something else, like your shoes. Have you been re-fitted since you started running? Maybe you need a different kind of shoe now. Or maybe the shoes you wear to work are putting stress on your hips. I’m sorry you’re dealing with tightness!

I haven’t been refitted for shoes in a long time, that’s a good idea to go and get refitted!

    Happy First Race Anniversary!

I’m sorry your hip is still tight. So frustrating to feel like you are doing everything right, but not seeing the benefits. I know you mentioned stretching after your run, but have you considered stretching before your run as well? When I messed my hip up this fall my massage therapist told me I should be stretching it when I first wake up, before and after every run, and before bed. It was a pain to stretch 4 times a day, but it definitely helped keep things loose. I also agree with Ali about looking into your shoes as the cause of the issue.

I’m sorry your hip is tight! I do couch stretch allll the time. Hell, I stretch all the time and I still have problems. 🙁 You are right, tight ANYTHING shouldn’t happen to anyone!

That is so cute Adam wanted you to hear stronger when you crossed the finish line. 🙂

I feel like I stretch ALL THE TIME too! It’s puzzling to me that I could ever be tight anywhere because I dedicate so much time to staying loose!

I am curious about your hip. A recurring issue like that has to stem from somewhere? Shoes, a change in gait? It is so crazy how fast time goes from the first race! So fun to look back though and see how much we have all improved. What we have endured. I love looking back and seeing the progress! I know my 2 year runniversary is in a few months and I am stoked!

Oh no! I’m sorry about your hip! Hip tightness feels no good, and you are right, it shouldn’t happen to good people. For a yoga teacher, I have pretty tight hips. I can thank running for that. I love that you let Cecil pass out on the kitchen island. Frank gets so annoyed when Elly climbs on the counters. It never really bothers me much. She’s just looking to explore!

Ugh I struggled after my marathon with tight hips so I can relate to this. Hopefully you are able to find the root cause and not have to worry about it too much.

I pretty much spend our family TV time stretching on the floor too! My husband never stretches and has no issues. Damn him! 🙂 I’m excited to hear about your marathon journey this year. Fingers crossed you get through it injury free!

Ugh, I’m sorry about your hip. Just wondering if you had explored the option of the pain really generating from your knee and manifesting itself in your hip? Like a referred pain? The reason I’m asking is because after my knee surgery, I ended up getting a horrible tightness in my IT band that caused me issues during physical therapy. It was really only alleviated with working on my upper and lower leg muscles and didn’t really have much to do with the hip itself.

I was disappointed in the game obviously because my team lost!! But I was even more disappointed in our QB and the way he handled himself at the end of the game. I feel like he really could have rallied the team together to still go out on a high note after an awesome season. Instead, he acted kind of like a baby. But I did love the halftime show! Or at least the Bruno and Bey part of it 🙂

I watched the game but I wasn’t that excited about the halftime show. The commercials (most of them) were really funny though 🙂

    Hope you feel better soon!

Boo…sorry to hear your hip is still giving you a hard time! I am the absolute WORST with stretching, but I know I need to be more diligent about it…thanks for the reminder! 🙂

Sorry that you are dealing with recurring hip pain. Any type of injury or lingering pain is never fun to deal with. It sounds like you are doing the best you can to manage it.

I was really disappointed with the commercials during the Super Bowl. There were only three that I really liked. I’m glad Peyton won and will hopefully retire at the top of his game. I’ll be curious to see what he does. I was rooting against the Panthers as I find them slightly arrogant. Plus, they defeated the Seahawks. Still bitter about that one. 🙂
