Yesterday was the last day to sign up for the Team Paws virtual 5K/10K!
It was also the day the Chicago Marathon lottery opened! Good luck to everyone who has entered the lottery. I hope that your name gets picked and we can hang out in Chicago!
Today I want to give everyone who donated an update on the race, but before I do that I just have to say how grateful I am to every single person who donated to PAWS.
I know that you can (and do) run the 5K and 10K distance in training all the time. You didn’t have to pay $20+ to join in my virtual race, but I am really appreciative that you did.
Along with Waggle’s $250 donation, together we have raised over $850 in just about one month. That’s incredible!
The $867 that we’ve raised so far could pay for:
- 13 x-rays for injured dogs and cats …or
- 11 IVs for sick dogs and cats …or
- 10 spay/neuter procedures …or
- 4 rounds of medication for dogs and cats with upper respiratory infections or
- 27 days worth of litter for all the cats at the PAWS shelter or…
Heartworm treatment for a sick dog or cat, medication for the entire shelter for a day or any combination of these things.
That $800 can go a long way at a shelter, and I hope you feel really good about your contribution!
So, now the part you’ve been waiting for, a breakdown of the race!
- 21 runners are registered for the race
- 7 runners are registered for the 5K
- 14 runners are registered for the 10K
Here are the results so far for the 10K:
- 43:05 (Day with KT)
- 51:28 (Yoga on the Run)
- 59:19 (Nancy S.)
- 1:00 (Nicole M.)
- 1:10 (Balancing Meanderings)
Here are the results so far for the 5K:
- 23:49 (Run Hare Run)
- 23:56 (Slimpllify Life)
- 28:48 (Hit the Ground Running)
A big congrats to the three of the runners who PR’d during their virtual races!!!
I’ll be updating the race page, removing the signup form and adding results over the next couple of days.
You have until March 20th to submit your race time! 🙂
I will be placing the order for race medals this week and will be shipping them out to everyone who requested one on March 21st!
THANK YOU again to everyone that is participating!
*If you don’t want your race result published please just let me know via email and I won’t include it on the race page.
PS: If you are a doggie parent, please take a minute to check out Waggle’s blog. Waggle is the official sponsor of the Race for PAWS 5K/10K and made a $250 donation to PAWS on my behalf! They post really useful tips for dog parents on their blog that I think you’ll really like!
1) The virtual race is such a good idea, and I’m excited to complete it. 🙂 2) I entered the Chicago marathon lottery yesterday–if I get in, it’d be my first marathon. Eek! Both excited and nervous. 🙂

Thank you Denise! Nova is sooo cute. Happy one year and one month bday to her! I bet she is going to be the perfect running buddy!
I have my fingers crossed for you! If you don’t get in via the lottery, you should totally think about joining Team PAWS! Everyone there has been so nice, helpful and enthusiastic!
Love how many people have entered the 5K/10K already, that’s awesome! Looks like I should have run a few seconds faster ;).

I am LOVING seeing all of the times rolling in this week. I really need to get out there and get mine done! 🙂
You did awesome! Go enjoy your down time and vacation before the BIG DAY!
Thanks for an awesome virtual race! It was really fun completing that yesterday. Send me some good vibes over the next few weeks. I entered the Chicago Marathon lottery, and well… I really hope I get a spot. Congrats on your fund raising, and hopefully, I’ll be seeing you in Chicago.

Ohhh so exciting! I really hope that you get in! Fingers crossed!
You could also think about joining Team PAWS if you don’t get in through the lottery 🙂 The people within the organization are really helpful and they provide a ton of fundraising tips and ideas!
Thank you for including everything that out contribution can pay for. It does make me feel really good! It also makes me wish I was really wish and could give thousands of dollars to animal shelters.
I did the virtual race this morning! I’ll be writing a post about it and of course sending you my results pretty shortly! It was not only my first VIRTUAL race, but my first 10k that was ACTUALLY a 10k distance, hahaha! (Remember that debacle???)

I wish I could too!
I’m excited to read all about your 10K. I do remember you WINNING the last 10K you did! Superstar runner!
I can’t wait to race this! I’m hoping to get my first couple miles in with Arrow but we’ll see how that goes… Thank you for showing us what all of our donations contributed to. That is so awesome!!

I hope Arrow enjoys her first race 🙂 Take it easy on her, that first race can be a killer! haha
That’s a great donation! Kristina brings peeps together 🙂
Look at those great runs posted! I need to get busy 🙂 I ran a 5K Monday morning and though about using it, but then I was like…hmmm, maybe I can sub 30 it lol SO I want to try again!
When you go for the race will you have time to tour the city a bit or a quick race and home?
Author
Be safe! I know you’re feeling good but don’t push it too hard. The animals at the shelter will understand if you don’t go sub-30. Or at least I hope they do since I don’t even stand a chance at going sub-30 for them! haha 🙂
I am planning to stay in the city for a couple of days! After Portland last year I know better than to jump on a plane again the same day as finishing a marathon!
I think I am going to rest this weekend! The weather here was perfect last night, I couldn’t resist the urge to push a little.
Good call about staying and seeing the city!
Extremely disappointed I have been MIA and missed registering for this run. Congrats to everyone registered, such a great cause. Great job Kristina, such a great idea. Hope to follow all the results

Thanks Richard! It’s great to see your name pop up again.
I owe you an email back…. been swamped the last couple of days!
Congratulations on successful fundraising with the virtual race! I had so much fun running it. I’m looking forward to seeing the times come in (and not-so-secretly hoping no one will beat me, haha, :)).

Thanks Lizzy! The virtual race did better than I ever could have expected. It turns out I have a lot of awesome online friends! 🙂
i’m so glad that i remembered to sign up late last night! i love PAWS (they’re right down the street from me) and so i’m excited to make a donation to help them and you out!

That’s awesome that PAWS is so close to you! I wish I was local so I could attend some of the fun sounding events.
I’d love to do the PAWS Chicago’s Run For Their Lives 8K Run/4K Dog-Friendly Walk!
Thank you for signing up!!! 🙂
I would definitely participate in your virtual race if I could run right now! What a good cause 🙂
Author
Thanks Sam! I hope that you’re recovery is going really well and you’re back on your feet running and biking soon! 🙂
Hooray for raising such a great amount!!!
This was such a fun way to do it, Kristina!!!
Author
Thanks Kim! I really appreciate you participating!
I’m SO GLAD the money raised was such a significant amount!! That makes me soooo happy!
I’m also happy I’m in 3rd place right now, but I have a feeling that won’t last! lol

Me too! Participation in the virtual race really blew me away. I thought if five people signed up that would be a success!
I am so impressed that you ran a sub-30 after ALL of the half marathons you’ve run recently. Your focus hasn’t been on these shorter distances in a while, but you totally kicked butt!
I’m so sorry I did not sign up for this in time, Kristina. 🙁 After I found out I was pregnant, the idea of racing was set aside for a few weeks (I now have decided to do a couple fun races at some point). I still plan on donating to your cause and will cheer you on each week as you train and reach your goals! Congrats to all those who have finished their races thus far, and good luck to those who have yet to race and submit times!
Wooty Woo! I need to find my Garmin charger (since Ive been using my Timex… Garmin has been sleeping beauty). Glad to see that fundraising is going well 🙂
Congratulations on all the money you raised for PAWS! What a wonderful thing!
