Roll With It Baby…

I honestly cannot believe it’s Wednesday already. Where does the time go?!

Last night I had what you might call a perfect night. I got in 3 easy miles and then watched TWO all new episodes of The Mindy Project : )

I also looked up 5Ks that are going on in my area this month and was really disappointed. The selection is already really sparse and it’s only April! Last year I think there were still a handful of races to choose from leading up until mid-May. I know I did The Color Run the first week of May last year… although that was pretty much the last event in Fort Lauderdale until October-ish.

If I’m going to PR before the fall, I need to get rolling…

Can you count a PR if it only happens during a regular run and not a race?

Personally, I think the answer is yes, although it never feels as exciting as when you PR crossing a finish line.

Okay, so I don’t know if this is going to sound completely ridiculous or not but I am SO EXCITED to start marathon training next month! Adam bought my entry into Portland for Christmas and I have thought about the race every week since then.

It’s the same kind of crazy excitement I felt leading up to the start of my half marathon training last year.

I’ll never forget it … I ran The Color Run on May 5th and then I started my first half marathon training plan for the Fort Lauderdale Half on Nov 9th. In case you are wondering, yes, I did start wayyyy too early. I absolutely jumped the gun in my excitement.

My plan at the time was to do my training plan TWO times before the race, hence the need to start training early. I felt like I would be super prepared if I did it twice. Obviously I was a little bit crazy, and as soon as I made the smart decision to start working with a running coach last June she was like … let’s not do that : )

This time I am not heading into training with any crazy ideas!

    I’m sooo excited for you to start training for the Portland marathon! You’re going to kick butt!!!

    My next race is a 10k April 12. I’m just looking to have fun…it’s the last race of the season for me, so the plan is just to enjoy it and not die if there’s a heat wave lol.

    Oh my word Cecil! There is a certain screen saver I have of this like spiral thread that Jelly is OBSESSED with. He looks BEHIND my monitor to see where it is coming from. What can I say, he’s a genius. My next race, as you know, is definitely just for fun! I do think a PR counts whether it is a race or a training run. This past summer, before I PR’ed in the mile during a race, I PR’ed in the mile during speed work. That’s how I knew it was time to actually RACE the mile!

    I think you can PR on a practice. I have thought about making a 5k route that I can do every couple of weeks to try and improve my 5k time. I want to do a mile too. I would rather spend the entry fees on longer races. Some of the ski areas up here have a weekly race (5K), that is on the honor system. You show up, log in at the trailhead, log in your finish time, they post the results the next day–all summer long. It would be fun to sign up for a series.
    I am excited for your marathon training too–I look forward to hearing about it! Really, runs you do now are training too–building a base.

      An honor system race is so cool! I’m also fascinated by FKTs which seem to also mostly go by the honor system.

    We have the same challenges. Runs are non existent during the summer in AZ. Although I find some night trail runs.

    you can PR any time any place. Its your personal record, race or not.

    Your not crazy for being excited about marathon training. Our marathon is 10 months away and I want to start training now lol.

      Haha exactly! When you sign up for a race in advance it’s so hard to contain the excitement!

    Yes, I reckon you can definitely still count a PR if its not a race.
    Enjoy marathon training – it will all be worth it at the finish line!
    I am training for a PR in a half marathon on 6th July (Gold Coast Marathon in Oz). But if I don’t get it that’s ok, as the course is supposed to be beautiful so maybe I will switch to just taking in the sights??

    My next race is on Sunday and it will be a training run race: a half marathon a month before a full. So I guess that is fun?

    PR’s are good anytime 🙂 It’s always so fun to do it during a race too. My next two runs are mellow. One is for charity, no chip timing, and then I get to Glow RUN! I think that will be fun 🙂 O wait, I have a 15K April 12th lol My cats like the IPAD too, makes me smile. I love the 2x’s idea…
