Run Like the Wind

This first week back to work sure is flying by, isn’t it? I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already (but I’m not mad about it)!

Here’s the rundown of what’s going on:

1. Joined the 1,000 Mile Challenge for 2016.

To be honest I’m not totally sure who the person/people behind this challenge are. A friend of mine sent me the link and asked if I’d like to do the challenge with her. It costs $19 to join and I think half of all proceeds go towards charity, the rest goes towards awards (not really sure what the awards are).

So basically, I have no information, but I wanted to tell you that I am going to try and log 1,000 miles this year! 😉

2. Ran Like the Wind.

In a weak effort to chip away at my 1,000 mile goal I got in two miles last night. The wind was whipping around at 28mph!! I was dying! The sand coming off the beach was literally stinging my skin the entire time, and tons of it was swept onto the roads.

I can’t complain too much though because running in the wind is better than running in the rain, PLUS it was only sixty-nine degrees out last night!

The weather forecast shows we’ll be back up into the 80s by the weekend, but then it’s supposed to dip back down for a couple of days next week. I hope this trend continues and we have a nice cool day for the Miami Half and full marathon later this month!

3. Enjoyed S-O-U-P

I enjoyed a nice cup of miso soup yesterday because it’s officially soup weather! Consider this my first #WhatIAteWednesday ;).

In addition to soup weather it’s also long-sleeve shirt weather, hot chocolate weather and possibly boots weather! Of course, down here in South Florida anytime it’s below 75 degrees you’ll find women wearing Uggs.

4. Continued with Bad Habits.

Despite my plan to get back on a good sleeping schedule starting Sunday, I have yet to actually make it happen. I’ve continued going to bed at 2am and now I am falling asleep typing this.

Talk to ya again tomorrow! Hopefully I’ll be more awake! 🙂

How’s your first week of the new year going?
Did you make any non-running resolutions?
I resolved to be less dramatic at work! I’m trying! haha

I don’t know how you stay up so late! I would need coffee all day long if I was up until that time. That wind sounds crazy- one of my least favorite conditions to run in!

  2. January 6, 2016 / 6:12 am

I love the idea of the 1000 mile challenge! Having a goal for the year always makes those don’t want to days a little bit easier to handle.
I would love to have 69 degree weather! It has been in the 20’s up here…I am freezing!!!!

      STACI! 🙂

Brrrrrr that sounds way too cold! How do you even run in that?!

  3. January 6, 2016 / 6:40 am

Going back to work seems to give me insomnia. I try to go to bed early, but I end up staying up SO late. Break threw off my schedule so much! This weekend I’ll be going to Disney to spectate the marathon, so I won’t have time to catch up on sleep then, either. So I guess I had better get to bed early tonight haha.

Have fun spectating and good luck to your friend on her first marathon!!!!!

  4. January 6, 2016 / 9:51 am

That is a lot sand in the streets!
I have a 1,000 mile goal again this year. I missed it last year, hopefully 2016 will turn out different. I have 17 miles done lol
    Sleep in this weekend 🙂

17 miles is great! You’re on track, haha!

2016 is our year! Hitting 1,000 will be EASY! 🙂

  5. January 6, 2016 / 10:33 am

It’s fun to join into those yearly challenges. Meet some new runners and get extra motivation! I don’t really have any mileage goals for 2016, unless I look like I am on track for 2,016 miles then I will try to reach that. I really don’t want to push it too much to get injured trying to go for it though!
Hmmm, non-running resolutions… work on better posture! That’s always a goal for me. I was told one time by my boss that I looked like I was slouching- he thought maybe due to my posture when doing long runs. That really got me thinking!

That’s a great non-running resolution! Once you get in the habit of sitting up straight it will become second nature. When I wanted to improve my posture I started sitting sort of on the edge of my seat so I wouldn’t be tempted to lean back. It also allows you to put your legs at a 90 degree angle which is comfortable. Now that whole situation is just habit and I do it when sitting on the couch at home too! haha

  6. January 6, 2016 / 10:50 am

My BIL and I were talking about the 1000 and 2016 mile challenges. I want to do one so I’ll probably jump on that with you. Oh man miso soup sounds soooo good right now. We aren’t big new year people, the first week of the year is a continuation of last year, no big changes lol. Not a big resolution person, if I need to change it will happen at some point lol 🙂

Nice! 1,000 miles will be easy, we totally got this!

I like your take on resolutions!! haha

  7. January 6, 2016 / 12:43 pm

Haha that is great picture at the end! I went to sleep mucho late during the holidays (I was binge watching the Wire). Last night I was exhausted and wiped out around 9:30.

  8. January 6, 2016 / 1:22 pm

I don’t think I could stay up until 2am if I tried. I have been up at 2am after sleeping 4 hours first though. I hate the feeling of being tired during the day, and I LOVE to go to sleep at night! It has been bitter here, and I have been enjoying having soup too!
I am terrible at making NY resolutions. I am trying to cut out my 4th meal of the day of snacks while watching TV at night though…

  9. January 6, 2016 / 5:02 pm

Holy cr*p! 1000 miles!! GO GO GO!

I have to get back on track with reducing my landfill trash. I’m on a mission to reduce reduce reduce and reuse this year. This limits my choice of takeout food options but maybe that will help with my weight loss goals!

Hahaha I love it! Good luck! I hope you still have some really good takeout food options! 😉

  10. January 6, 2016 / 5:38 pm

I would love to see “Work Kristina”. I bet you run that shit!!!

I have been sleeping very well thanks to a very soothing Mary Higgins Clark book. That is the best way I can describe her books- soothing. Even the gritty parts oddly make me feel homey.

Ewww sand in your face!? Ow. Wind sucks. It also really slows me down!

I hope FL has a massive dip in temp for your race! PA suddenly got it’s massive dip this week. Yesterday, the real feel during my run was 0 and today it was 15. I got all cocky this morning and only wore one pair of pants and nearly froze to death. This may sound overly cautious, but I try not to be more than a 3/4 mile from home when it is bitter cold out.

Ugh, I had sand in my mouth too! It was awful. The first thing I did when I got home was take a shower and brush my teeth!

I have no idea who cleans up the sand! That is a good question!

I have seen a guy riding a machine smoothing out the sand very early in the morning. I wonder if he does it?
