Running Robot

Last week I was at a client meeting and the team shared these bars:

They are honestly so, so, so good. As soon as I got home I ordered a box on Amazon. They’re a little expensive (12 pack was $17) but the taste is worth it!

I like having one a couple of hours before I go for my afternoon run. Yesterday was just another easy three miler. Actually every single day this week except for the “long run” of six miles on Sunday is only three miles this week. They ease you into the 20-week plan really slowly!

After getting used to running five miles on weeknights it’s definitely weird to only run three but not in a bad way. I’m really enjoying the extra time it gives me at the end to kick my feet up and breathe for a few minutes.

One of these days I’m going to finish my run by this chair and just sink into it for a while. I bet that would be so nice after a long run!

Overall I’ve been enjoying this first week of training. I’m only going to top off the week with 21 miles I think, which is about half what I’ve been running recently. That was all part of my master plan though to avoid burnout!

If I didn’t decide to start with the 20-week plan and instead just did an 18 or 16 week plan I would have decreased my mileage anyway. It’s just nice to decrease the mileage and still be in marathon training.

There’s just something about being in a plan that makes me feel right! Plus, I’m honestly so bad about being consistent when I’m not following a plan. I end up taking way too many rest days and cut runs short. It’s much better for me to just say, “right I need to do X today because the plan says so!”

I’m such a robot! 😀

    I prefer following a plan too! Ive sort of been making a plan for myself lately even without “training” for anything because I feel like the weeks that I don’t I end up in a bit of a running funk. Its nice that you get to lower your mileage so much to start out! Have a great weekend!

      I try to make myself a plan for when I’m not actually training for anything, but without an upcoming goal I go off track way too easily! I’m not as disciplined as you are!

    I really love that the beginning of this plan is almost like a cutback week for you because you did the base-building plan. I think that’s really brilliant; you clearly planned ahead! Your legs and body are going to feel SO good!

      I love it too! It’s like I’m starting the plan with a taper and then ending the plan with a taper! 😀

    Happy weekend, Kristina!! 🙂 This weekend we are going to my uncle’s for a picnic, dropping in on my friend’s cats to keep them company while they are away, and hopefully running and doing yard work. I am so looking forward to a 3 day weekend! What are you up to?

      I am really looking forward to the 3 day weekend too!!! Awww cat sitting that’s so sweet! I’ll be cat sitting for my mom in a couple of weeks. This time Georgie is coming over to our house for a week – I’m sure Cecil will love that! (He’s such a bully to Georgie!)

      This weekend … not big plans yet! Tomorrow we’re having a few people over for a BBQ but other than that we have nothing scheduled and I love it!

    I relate to the feeling of running better and more consistently while following a plan. I am in week 1.5 ish of hansons (it’s weird that it starts on a Wednesday…) and even though the mileage is low right now I’m trying to just trust in the plan and enjoy it while it lasts! Those bars look good, I’ll keep an eye out for them.

    I would love to go soak my tootsies in the ocean after a run 🙂 Do that for me once in awhile lol
    I have nothing for this weekend yet, still working on it!
    That flavor protein bar sounds perfect to me.

    I agree with karen, walking in the ocean after a good run would be phenomenal. Althought I’m a big baby and never go deeper than knee height lol.

    So excited for your trainig, it’s going to be awesome. Tons of stuff this weekend, I’ll have pics on Tue.

    Yum, those bars looks amazing! I will splurge on food I really love, too. 3 miles runs sound about perfect to me. Lately, I have been running 3.1 miles and then walking Macy for 2.1 miles (that’s how far we can go in 1/2 hour which is more than enough for her). I am liking it. So looking forward to your training. How are your calves feeling?!? What shoes did you settle in with? I know you were trying some ones! What are you up to this weekend? We plan to watch some baseball games, go for a mountain ride on the Harley and a very easy, short hike on Monday followed by a BBQ!! Love the extra day off from work.

    I think following a plan is the way to go. It just makes you feel like something is holding you accountable.

    We had plans to go out on the lake today but it is raining!! No bueno. Hope you’re enjoying your holiday weekend 🙂

    I so agree with you! I’m so bad at winging things sometimes. I have to set a schedule and follow through my plan. I easily get fazed when my derails tho. Lol. Anyhow, good share!
