Running Scavenger Hunt!

Hey guys! Last night I was feeling unmotivated to run as I was driving home from work.

As I was getting close to the beach I remembered that a couple of years ago I did a running scavenger hunt and it was a lot of fun. I quickly looked up the scavenger list and decided to do it again.

Here’s what I found!

1. A wild animal.

I saw a beach rat but unfortunately he was too fast for me to snap a pic!

2. A fence.

This one was easy! So many buildings are conducting renovations at the beach that there are all kind of fences up to keep people out of construction zones. Up there you can see a fence wrapping around the W hotel.

3. A street sign named after a tree.

I know most of the street names around the beach since I run those roads so much. I couldn’t remember any street signs having tree names, but I found one! Poinsettia Rd!

4. A Flag.

It’s hard to see but there is a tiny American flag up there on top of that hotel!

5. A pair of orange running shoes.

I looked at the shoes of every runner I saw but no one was wearing orange!

6. A purple flower.

This was another fail!

7. An animal crossing sign.

Does a turtle nesting sign count? I didn’t see any animal crossing signs. I did see this nesting sign as well as signs saying not to bring your dog onto the beach, which I think is sad. If I had a dog I would want to feel the sand beneath his paws!

8. A discarded food item or container.

It is a true testament to the investment Fort Lauderdale has made into beach cleanup that I did not see a single discarded food item or container. I did see one crushed can of red bull but I was enjoying a good song and didn’t want to stop running to get a pic of trash.

9. A port o potty.

Easy! Once again, with all of the construction and renovations going on there are plenty of port o pottys to be found!

10. A baby stroller.

Is it okay that the baby stroller is empty? The kid was playing in the sand with what I assume is the mom.

11. A yellow lab or golden retriever.

Very unfortunately I did not see a lab or golden.

12. A house or mailbox #12.

Nope.

13. Road kill.

Thankfully I did not find this. Whenever I see anything in the road that could be a dead animal I avert my eyes. I don’t want to see that.

14. A red car.

Got em! I was actually trying to take a pic of the street sign here and just happened to snap the pic when a red car went by. How lucky!

15. Another runner or walker.

Easy squeezy. There are always so many other runners out!

16. A Disney lawn ornament.

17. An outside clock.

18. A tree bearing fruit.

Look at those coconuts!

19. Find a word on a sign that you can relate to running.

Don’t worry I won’t be breaking this speed limit anytime soon :).

20. A selfie.

That one is easy!

Have you ever completed a running scavenger hunt? Will you try this one over the weekend and let me know how you do?!

Gift Card Winner!

I randomly chose the Swiftwick $100 gift card giveaway yesterday through rafflecopter — congrats to Mika!

If you didn’t win, don’t worry because Powerbar reached out to me a few days ago and I will have a seriously AWESOME giveaway for you from them next week. You definitely don’t want to miss this one so keep an eye out :).

What are you up to this weekend?
Will you give the scavenger hunt a try?
How has your week been? Best thing that’s happened?

Really? I think you should try! I didn’t think I would find many of the items on the list either but I found more than half!

  2. Schlub

Wow great way to change up the normal running routine. Trying to run this weekend but youth sports starts so we will see how it goes. Had a solid run in Thu and got a huge compliment from running buddy, really made my day 😀

I need to do this scavenger list when I’m back to running!! It looks like so much fun:)

It’s perfect for those days that you don’t feel like running and need a distraction to keep you moving forward!

This weekend I am judging a robotics competition, going to Chicago for a friend’s birthday, and then coming back for an event at our gym on Sunday–all of the people who train with personal trainers are creating workouts for the trainers. It should be fun. 🙂
A scavenger hunt is such a good idea! I will try to do one this weekend during my long run (gives me more of an opportunity to succeed ha).
This week has been alright–I haven’t been super productive which is frustrating, but

A robotics competition?! That sounds so cool! Adam loves watching that robot fighting show on tv!

Depending on where you run this scavenger hunt might not work for a long run. I found 90% of these items in the first mile, haha!

I love this idea!! How did you keep track of the items though? Just in your head?

Yeah! I read through the list several times before I went running, and then every time I took a pic I scanned through the list again to see what I was missing!

  6. Megan @ Meg Go Run

So do you run on that path that the dude with the baby stroller is on? Do you like running where it is “busy”?

I do! Luckily there is one ~half mile section of the beach that is crowded and the rest is pretty clear. Running through that small section sucks but once you get past it you’re good to go!

  7. Ana

This is really cool! I’m going to have to give the scavenger hunt a try!!

And also, can you please adopt me?? I’m not from Florida, but I love Fort Lauderdale! please! I’m good at cleaning up after myself! I promise!

That sounds fun. I relate to a running sign on a road I frequently run on that says “SLOW”…
