Running, Weight Lifting, Sweating Like Crazy

Welcome to Friday!

Last night I had a really random, but really great workout. My little gym was extra crowded so I had to kind of just take advantage of whatever was open.

I started out with a 20-minute warmup on the stationary bike, and then I did two miles on the treadmill — including fast strides.

I was supposed to do a different running workout, but by the time the treadmill opened up (we have two, but one is out of order) it was already really late and I just wanted to get a couple of quality miles in.

Yes, this poor treadmill has been out of order for a while.

Yes, this poor treadmill has been out of order for a while.

After running I was going to go home, but decided it is time for me to pick up a weight or two. I normally don’t mix running and weight lifting days (because I usually put all my focus into one), but last night I just wanted to get the feel for weights again to remind myself that I actually like doing them.

I did three upper body exercises and they felt good, although I’ve definitely lost some of my strength.

Bent over rows with 35lb dumbbells

One thing to note is if you run before you do bent over rows you will get lots of sweat in your eyes and on the bench.

Don’t worry, I wiped everything down. Don’t you hate it when people don’t clean up after themselves at the gym? Yuck.

I left the gym super sweaty but feeling good!

moiThe really nice thing about not being in a specific training cycle right now is the flexibility I have with my workouts.

If I was in the middle of training for a distance race, I would have been frustrated that the only working treadmill was taken last night. I would have been upset that I didn’t plan to go running outdoors (even though I wanted to go to the gym with Adam). But, because I’m not in the middle of a training cycle, I could just brush it off and go with the flow!

Favorite upper body lift? Lower body lift?

Do you get frustrated at the gym if someone is using a machine / area that you want to?

– Normally yes, so much! I stare daggers at the back of the person’s head until they move. (Aren’t I such a nice person?! : )

Oh I am sooooooooooo territorial at the gym but hopefully people don’t notice! Someone using the assisted pull up machine? HOW DARE THEY! DON’T THEY KNOW I USE THE MACHINE AT 6:06AM!!!??? Hehehe. Anyway, yeah it is totally gross when people leave sweat around. I had to mop up someone’s sweat on a bench a few days ago and it disgusted me. My favorite upper body lift is pull ups and my favorite lower body is squats, even though I have not done them in WEEEEEEEEKS. My poor little butt.

One of the reasons I am glad I dont go to the gym anymore. Many people are courteous but there are those that are just gross and it really bothers me when those things happen. Glad I can run whenever wherever I want and dont have to worry about that anymore. Although your post and Megs comment has me cringing lol.

Upper Body – I like doing shoulder workouts, front raise, lateral raise, etc
Lower Body – I guess I’ll go with squats, but power clean is fun too
Using Machine – No longer worry about this one lol

I agree – nice to not be training for anything specific – I love having flexibility in what I do.
Favorite lower body – most everything but dead lifts for sure.
Favorite upper body – harder – pushups!!!

I sometimes miss weight training, but I’ve been pretty happy with body-weight exercises lately. Plus that way I don’t have to go to the gym for a double workout :o)

I’m loving your “go with the flow” attitude!

It’s always good to have a break from training! I can’t wait lol
You crack me up staring folks down, huh? LOL It’s polite to wipe down so I always do it. They just re arranged my gym and really messed up my stretch area…didn’t even check with me first! I love to bench press with a straight weight bar. I do a lot more upper body and back work than legs. I just started doing a little more leg work ,but my knees can’t tolerate lunges or squatting so I am limited.

Upper body: i love overhead barbell shoulder presses
lower body: deadliest all the way, sculpt that backside!
