Second Run Since Surgery!

I had such a good weekend! On Saturday I got in a half mile run/walk using 1:1 intervals and had very minimal tightness!

You can catch up on all the details in my latest vlog:

Even though my physical therapist and I have only been doing aggressive massage therapy on my scar tissue for a few days now it seems to be working wonders.

The first day that he showed me how to do the massage it felt like there was a hard brick under my skin. It wasn’t pliable at all. Now it’s starting to feel normal again, and that translated into such a better run!

I was very conservative with the run portion of the interval, obviously since it took me over 9 minutes to go 0.58 mile. I was just so nervous about what I would feel and I had no idea what to expect.

Next time I will try to go a little faster on the run part and see how that feels.

What I can say is that my endurance is crap at the moment. Just that 0.58 run/walk left my legs feeling tired! I am hopeful that my endurance will come back fairly quickly so that I can run (just for fun) a 5K this December. That’s the goal!

Other than running I also went and got my nails done. Went for a virbrant sunrise-y color that I’m loving!

On Sunday I decided to go for a two mile walk. My physical therapist said before I start really getting back into running I should be able to walk for at least two miles.

Even though I haven’t even attempted walking that far yet I felt sure that I could. And I did.

It kind of made me laugh that my walk pace ended up being basically the same as my run/walk pace. I guess that just goes to show how conservative I was being Saturday with the running intervals. I definitely need to pick it up.

I am really glad to say that I made it two miles without any tightness or soreness, and as of writing this I haven’t felt any soreness since. That’s good news because just a couple of weeks ago when I walked about 1/2 mile I did have some soreness.

At this point I feel like I am making leaps in recovery each week, and that’s really exciting to see and feel.

It honestly just feels so good to be back in the fresh air and moving my legs. I knew I missed it but I didn’t realize I missed it THIS much. It sounds silly but I feel like a piece of me has been put back into place.

I’m looking forward to seeing what progress I make this week!

So glad you had a good run with less tightness!! It sounds like things are coming along. I really think you will be ready for a 5k in December and your endurance will come back quickly once you get used to running again.

So happy you are seeing some progress! I also hate going to the nail salon very often. I actually didn’t used to get manicures on a regular basis but then I went for the gel and it’s hard to give that up. Mainly because it’s so inconvenient to wait for your nails to dry!

I am so happy you made some progress this week! I know you were worried. This must be such a relief, and 36 min of walking is nothing to sneeze at. I love your lip color in the beginning of the video and your nails look really cute. A nice pop of color for fall.

Progress is good 🙂 I would enjoy that massage therapy! I have wondered if that I feel in my leg after all this time, seeing someone Thursday to work on it.
It is crazy how tired the legs can feel after a run when you have been to for awhile – shoot my legs feel the miles eve after training for several weeks lol
