Shaking Things Up

Hi there! You may have noticed that yesterday I decided to shake things up around here and changed the design of the blog.  I have been thinking about going with a new look for a while, but I just wasn’t sure what I wanted. I’m still playing around with colors and fonts so you’ll probably see a few more changes over the next couple of days, but for the most part I really like this look!

I also bought the domain which redirects here, so now you can get to this blog using or Since my Twitter and Instagram handles are @kristinarunning I thought it was appropriate :).

Okay, enough with the boring behind-the-scenes blog stuff!

Yesterday morning was extra special because I unboxed a new pair of Adrenalines! These guys are the last of the bunch that I bought on sale at the end of last year.

When I unboxed these pretty little shoes I told them how special they are because they will be the shoes that get to run the CHICAGO MARATHON! So you could say it was a pretty exciting day for my shoes.

No one gets to run a marathon without first training though, so I took them out for a spin last night.

Yes, I finally got down to the beach for an outdoor run. It’s been a while but last night renewed my passion for beach running. I forgot how relaxing it can be, although the humidity yesterday was sky high. A storm was rolling in and the air was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. It didn’t bother me too much though because I just had an easy run on the schedule.

I used to think that I took my easy runs easy, but this training cycle I have discovered what easy really is. My coach puts certain pace ranges for me to hit and for easy runs they are usually in the 14+ minute per mile range (or 1-2 minutes per mile slower than race pace which is 13:40 for me).

It feels weird to run 14 minute miles during short runs, and I often have to incorporate walking breaks to slow myself down enough, but I am finding it enjoyable. I certainly see how this will help my legs stay “fresh” as my weekly mileage builds into the 40s. I can already see how it’s helping me meet the demands of my speedwork.

Other than running, I had a pretty uneventful day at work, which I’ll mark down as a good thing.

I’m sure my coworkers think I have issues because I’m getting up to use the restroom about twenty times an hour now. That’s just what happens when you’re staying hydrated during marathon training season though ;).

We recently got Apple TV in the conference room, and I’ve been sneaking in during lunch to watch HULU. I’m on the last episode of Wayward Pines as of today.

About halfway through the season I was ready to give up on the show, but it’s really sucked me back in. I think there is going to be a season 2?

I hope so!

Yay or nay on the new blog design? Should I go back to the old one?
Have you seen Trainwreck yet? Should I go this weekend?
I’m not an Amy Schumer fan but I keep hearing that it’s really funny.

PS: If you haven’t checked out my latest video yet please take a peek – it includes a Running Q&A! I’m not a pro at being in front of a camera but I am trying to improve in every video!

  1. Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine

I like the new layout- its always nice to change things up once in a while! There is nothing like the first run in a new pair of shoes:)

      Thank you!

Yes! Every time I break out new running shoes I am amazed at how different they feel from the worn in ones. So much more cushiony!

I really like the new design!

It’s always exciting when you open the pair of sneakers that are going to run the marathon with you. I always say “these will be my ________ marathon shoes!” lol.

Hahah yes, same! I opened the box and immediately thought “omg these are my Chicago shoes!”

  3. Kerry

I like the new layout! Opening up a new pair of shoes is always so exciting. I have my next pair in the closet, but I haven’t decided when to open them up. Good luck as you up your mileage and get deeper into training! 🙂

      Thank you!!

I think I want to get the Ombre adrenalines next… if they’re still available this winter when I’m ready for a new pair. They are so pretty!

I knew I was ready for the new pair of shoes when I felt a weird ache in my left foot the other day. Whenever I have a random ache in the foot, and my shoes are a bit worn, I break out the new ones. I’m really bad about tracking mileage on a shoe, but usually just looking at the wear and tear on the sole (and going by how I feel) is a good enough indicator!

  4. Heather

I like the new design and I like the cohesiveness of everything using the same name. Smart branding!

Thank you! It’s always bugged me that none of my social / blog channels were cohesive. I feel so much better now that they are!

  5. Running Schlub

Love the beach pics, more please. Hmmm I’ve never had a discussion with my shoes but I can see how that can occur. There is some nostalgia about opening them up knowing they are going to kill it at your next race. Just watched your latest video, great job. I like the New layout.

I will try to post more beach pics… I just need to make sure I get off the treadmill to get these runs in!

You’ve never had a conversation with your running shoes? Please go talk to them right now ;).

I love the new blog look! And I love the new shoes. I always joke that my shoes are still virgin shoes until I take them for a beach run!

      Thank you! 😀

Hahah I totally agree – every pair of running shoes must be broken in at the beach!

  7. Annette @ Sweating Through Life

I like the new layout! I’m so jealous of new shoes. I don’t need any right now, but I always get jealous when someone else gets some! I also miss Brooks. I’m totally going back to Brooks when I buy my next pair.
And beach running….you’re so tough!! Running on the sand is so challenging to me!

Hahah I’m not tough at all! I run on the sidewalk next to the beach and not actually on the sand 🙂

Brooks are the best! They are the only brand of running shoe I have ever worn and they have never done me wrong!

  8. Megan @ Meg Go Run

I love the design! I noticed it immediately.

I also love a new pair of shoes. Do you ever save your shoelaces from marathons? I used to do that. 🙂 It was easier than saving the shoes.

      Thank you!! 🙂

I had never thought of saving just the shoelaces, what a great idea! I’ve saved ALL of my running shoes since I started. What a useless collection! I’m going to remove the laces, tag them and then donate the shoes. Thanks for the idea!

  9. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

The new layout and look of the blog gets an A+ in my book! 🙂 It’s always fun to switch it up once in a while. I am considering doing a redesign once I start training again. I haven’t seen Trainwreck but let me know what you think if you end up going. I find that theaters have become somewhat uncomfortable for me to sit in, so the movie would have to be really good for me to commit!

      Thanks Kristen! 😀

Oh no, you need to find a dine-in AMC where you can stretch out in the big comfy recliners! I don’t think I could ever go back to sitting in a regular theater again! haha

  10. Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola

OH MY GOSH I have those exact same pair of shoes in my shopping cart right now. We could be running twins. Except I can’t run right now… but you get the idea 🙂

    1. Kristina

Ahh, yes, I love these ones! I have to buy the wide width Adrenalines so I always have to buy whatever color the wide ones come in each year. The previous couple of years it was blue; I was so excited for the pink and white design last year. I’m hoping to pick up some of the ombre ones when/if they go on sale this winter. They’re so pretty!

  11. Jennifer @ The Final Forty

I like the new layout! P.S. You are especially inspiring to me right now; I love your attitude as you tackle these longer training runs, and you’re totally motivating me to quite whining about the heat and GET IT DONE. WTG! 😀

  12. Karen

I love the new design, very clean looking!
That’s good you are keeping the pace easy and feeling good. A new pair of running shoes always makes my day 🙂

There’s something really special about getting new shoes and knowing they’ll be the ones to take you through a marathon.
