Sipping Ice Cold Smoothies in the Hot Box Called Florida

Oh Friday, you are gorgeous, funny and smart. I just love you.

I’ve been waiting for this week to end since it started. All year long the days seemed to fly by but lately they’ve been crawling. I think I’m just in need of a vacation!

My mom and I are heading to NYC next month and I couldn’t be more excited. The only issue is that I have zero pieces of “winter clothing.” The heaviest jacket I own is made of tech material that can wick my sweat away and keep me cool. Not sure that’s what I need for a December in New York!

Even if NYC is only in the 60s it’s going to feel frigid to me since our temps haven’t dropped yet at all. Fort Lauderdale is experiencing a record high for November. I know I’m not the only person in Fort Lauderdale still whipping up ice coldIce C smoothies!

Supposedly there is a chance for rain on Sunday. I’m not usually a fan of running in the rain but I think a little drizzle might make the half marathon more enjoyable. Running a race in 80+ degrees is just not fun. Been there, done that, not a fan… but running in 80 degrees is better than not running at all 🙂 .

I’ve officially stopped going to physical therapy. I’m still doing all of my stretches every night but I am feeling really good. My hips aren’t tight, my back doesn’t hurt, I have had any foot numbness, etc. in almost two weeks now. I am eternally grateful for feeling better. Chronic pain is no joke and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Anyway, Fort Lauderdalians, what are you doing on Thanksgiving morning? How about a Turkey Trot and Paddle along Las Olas and A1A? Sounds like a plan to me!

I’ve never participated in a Turkey Trot since my Thanksgiving mornings are usually a bit hectic and I need to get my run in before 6am, but this year I may give it a shot!

Do you run a Turkey Trot every year?
Can I borrow a jacket for New York? 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Wish me luck at my half marathon this weekend. It’s just for fun, but with your luck I may avoid bad weather! haha

So glad to hear that you’re running pain free. Its such a wonderful feeling. The turkey trot sounds awesome. We have a few different traditions around thanksgiving that include football and some running. All enjoyable and really get you hungry for some turkey lol. Good luck this weekend!! ?

  3. Sam

I’ve never run a turkey trot but I want to find one this year since it always sounds like fun. I usually just end up running around my neighborhood before the day starts to make room for food and de-stress. Good luck!!

Hahah I hear ya! I always end up running super early before all the chaos starts which means I am ready for a nap by noon! LOL

Good luck this weekend. I usually do a turkey trot. I do it to run with the kids. I figure it is a “healthy” tradition to start with them!
You might be from NH if you have 4 winter coats: ski jacket, a parka, wool coat, post-run winter jacket to wear on walk with dogs…It is WARM here today 60, so I can only imagine how warm it is by you.

Just thinking about all of those jackets is making me sweat! 😀

Have a good time at the half this weekend! I’m running one tomorrow t00. It’s cold and blustery here right now, but hopefully that will all be gone by the morning. Since I live in Ohio I have a well rounded closet full of 4 seasons of clothes. It’s funny to think that some people don’t need cold weather coats!
This year I will be joining our neighbors for their 2nd annual neighborhood 5K Turkey Trot, and then after that we’ll take the kids out for another few miles at a local park, just because that’s our family tradition. Then I won’t feel so bad for all of the food I’m going to eat!

Ohhhh 4 seasons, that must be nice! When we were in Chicago I was in awe at all of the leaves changing color. I love the sound of a good crunch when you walk over leaves and branches!

Hope you had an awesome half this weekend!!!

Oh… and that is so awesome you are done with PT and feeling better!!! That was a quick recovery, no? Well, it seemed like it to me anyways 😉

It felt simultaneously quick and painfully slow to me. I definitely think I was lucky in that I healed in weeks and not months!

Good luck on your half this weekend! I am so happy for you that you’re done with PT. Sometimes those appointments become burdensome. I hope your body is nice to you during the race but it sounds like you’re feeling good 🙂 Look forward to a race recap!!! Have a great weekend.

Weird question… do they even sell winter clothing in Florida? If I were you, I would find a screaming deal online for a winter jacket. It’s always good to have one, just in case. You never know when it might snow in Florida (if that’s even possible). Justin and I might do a Turkey Trot this year with Axel. It will be out first run/walk as a family. 🙂 Have fun in NYC!!!

They do sell winter clothing in Florida! A colleague of mine was actually complaining the other day because his wife wanted to buy khaki shorts for their daughter and couldn’t find them anywhere because all the winter clothes are out! It’s so silly because no one really buys winter clothing here so it all goes on sale by December. I’m hoping that means I’ll be able to pick up a jacket on clearance before we leave! Otherwise I’ll have to look online!

That would be adorable for your little fam to do a Turkey Trot together!

  10. Maureen

Good luck on Sunday!!! I will be there too 🙂

  11. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

I hope you have a great race! I’m hoping for some drizzle…it was cloudy and a bit windy today, so it felt a touch cooler. Rain would help, too!
