So Dramatic

Happy Monday! I hope you started your day with a nice warm cup o’ joe like me. I hear it boosts morning productivity by 100 million percent!

I was planning to talk about my Chicago marathon training plan and goals today, but it turns out I have A LOT to say about that topic and I need more time for writing and editing!

Instead let’s take a trip down memory lane …

Yesterday morning Adam, Cecil and I all slept in and lazed about until early afternoon.

Cecil is the most dramatic sleeper ever. I  think he must have been an actor in another life.

Adam and I saw the afternoon showing of Mad Max at the dine-in theater. This was the first time we’ve sat in the Cinema Suites … WOW! The seats are extra large and cushioned AND they recline! I was in heaven!

I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go back to a regular movie theater experience again!

Adam is a fan of the Mad Max series and really enjoyed the movie from beginning to end. The movie wasn’t really my cup of tea but I still thought the ending was quite good. If you’re not already familiar with the series I would recommend you read up on it a bit before going otherwise you’ll be a little lost at the beginning (like I was); the movie really jumps right into the thick of things.

In the evening I headed down to the beach for a run!

I got in 60 minutes which is really the longest I’ve run in a couple weeks. I’m still coughing a little bit so I had to stop a few times (I think three) because I just needed to catch my breathe from coughing, but other than that it was a really satisfying run.

(Sidenote: The dry coughing is just killing me! It’s the only symptom left from bronchitis and it just won’t go away! UGH!)

The weather wasn’t bad at all yesterday which always makes a run 10X easier!

I’m really starting to get excited about Chicago training, which is good since the start of my training program is right around the corner!

Yesterday I finally booked my hotel for Chicago. I had been going back-and-forth about whether I wanted to do AirBNB or stay at one of the hotels near the start/finish. In the end I was able to get a group discount for The Congress Plaza Hotel through Team Paws and went with that. For two nights the room came out to just over $500 which seems to be a fair rate compared to what some of the other hotels are charging during race weekend.

I think 58 of the 60 minutes I was running yesterday I was thinking about Chicago… training, the race, meeting blog friends in the city, etc. I can’t wait!

Chillin’ post run thinking about Chicago!!!

I think that’s sand on my lips? It was a little windy. Gross, sorry about that!

The zipper on my trusty Armpocket broke yesterday. I guess it’s finally time for a new one. I’m kind of sad because this one has been with me through so many races and training runs over the last year! I get so attached to my running things!

I guess I better go and see what new colors and options Armpocket has in stock… talk to ya later!

If you’re running Chicago have you booked your hotel/flights yet?!

How did your running go this weekend?

We saw Mad Max in a dine in theater this weekend too! I was surprised how much I enjoted the movie. The creativity of the creator to come up with all those characters and gangs etc was awesome to me! And I loved that it was truly all about women’s autonomy and strong women. it should have been named for Furiosa!

I loved Furiosa as well, she was amazing! The movie was just a little too action packed for me. I would have liked a couple more breaks in the action. I get so involved in movies and I was just getting so tense/nervous from the nonstop action that I was actually uncomfortable!

  2. Kerry

I love Cicil’s dramatic sleeping. Cats are always so cuddly when they are tired. I have not booked my hotel for Chicago yet. Frank was going to deal with that for me, and we are not sure yet how many people are coming to watch (my parents and Frank’s parents might come). I’m starting to get pretty excited (and nervous) though!!

Ah that’s so nice that Frank is going to deal with it for you! At first I was going crazy researching hotels and AirBNBs… I must have looked at 50 different options and mapped them all out from the start/finish of the race. When I finally saw the option through Team Paws I felt so much relief, haha. Choosing hotels is so stressful, especially when all of the hotels seem to be going crazy with price gouging!

My running this weekend was pretty non-existent. I ran a 5k on Saturday and ended up taking a rest day on Sunday because I was just so tired.

Those movie theater seats look amazing! I wish there was a dine in theater here so I could check them out.

Lazy days are super important, helps your legs recover lol. We have been to a couple dine in theatres, they are fantastic but I always feel like I want to fall asleep. The chairs are too comfortable. Running went great this weekend, stop by for a recap.

Haha two times ago I did fall asleep! Oops!

You know I drop by your blog every day! 🙂

  5. Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine

Glad you have been able to run some more this week! My running went well this weekend but was much different for me than usual- I did 7 on Saturday and 7 in Sunday (usually I just do a longer run on Saturday).

Jelly is also a dramatic sleeper! Does Cecil ever lay on his back, totally stretched out with his tail curled up between his legs?

Hahah yes! All the time! I love when cats do that, it’s so cute!!!!!

  7. Hanna @ TheMillennialNextDoor

Cecil’s sleeping – too hilarious! Our cats are cute sleepers, they usually just curl up. Sometimes they will curl all the way into the fetal position and tuck their heads into their bodies.

Now I’m thinking I really need to make a trip to Chicago so I can meet all of you and cheer you on that weekend! How exciting! PS, I think your hotel was a good deal considering. I went to look at hotels for Grandma’s back in January and they were like $300. PER. NIGHT. Don’t even get me started. Thank goodness I have a runner friend who lives in the area and housing is free 🙂

Yes! I hope you are able to swing by Chicago and come for a meetup. As it gets closer I am going to try to plan something for Saturday afternoon!

You are right, I am positive that my hotel was a good deal all things considered. I saw so many of the other hotels near the start charging $300-500 per night! Ouch!!! It’s so annoying too because when I checked their non-race weekend prices they’re like $150/night! >:(

That’s awesome that you have a friend you can stay with for Grandma’s! Between airfare, the hotel and all the pizza I’m going to eat, I’ll be leaving all my money in Chicago!

  8. Courtney @ Running For Cupcakes

Haha Cecil is too adorable! Also completely unrelated but did you know that there is an game for cats to play on the iPad? I forget what it’s called but basically fish swim across the screen and the cats tap them and get points. My cat loves it!

I saw Mad Max a couple of weeks ago and still don’t know how I feel about it. I went into the movie having absolutely no idea what it was about and left speechless and still don’t have much to say about it. It was entertaining and I don’t have anything bad to say about it but I don’t think I liked it either.

YES!!! Cecil loves to play that game! He also plays the chase the dot iPad game! He’s really good at the games! Such a smart boy! 😀

I had no idea what the Mad Max movie was about either and I think I left feeling the same way as you. I liked a lot of the characters but the non-stop action gave me anxiety!

I haven’t decided when we are going to fly in yet. We may come in on Thursday or Friday but just stay at another hotel (that’s less expensive, haha) and then move over to our race hotel on Saturday!

  12. Susan

A happy sleeping pet make me smile! Nice job on the run and awesome news about getting prepped for Chicago. I am excited to follow along.

I want to have a movie theater like that! Going to the movies is seriously one of my most favorite things to do w/ Rick but the seats are so uncomfortable! If we had a theater like that I would definitely go more.

    1. Kristina @ Blog About Running

Haha, Adam commented over the weekend that those big cushy recliner seats were the kind we could only dream about back in the day. I bet someday they will be the norm!

  13. Jenn @ Running on Lentils

Booking a hotel makes it real! I can’t wait to read all your thoughts on Chicago training. I want all the details, please!

I would love to run a big marathon (aka Chicago, New York), but I don’t quite have the budget/training time for it YET. 🙂 I hope your training continues to go AMAZING. My running went well. I’m actually not training for a specifically running directed race. I’m training for a tri, so I’m focusing on swimming, biking, and running. 😀
