Squats, Planks & a Fartlek

Due to severe weather in Fort Lauderdale and Miami yesterday morning I worked from home. I actually attempted to go into the office twice but both times I was met with total gridlock on 95S and had to give up so I wouldn’t waste too much time sitting in my car.

Working from home meant at 6pm I was FREE! No commute!

Since Adam goes to MMA class on Tuesdays and doesn’t get home until after 9pm, I pretty much had the whole evening ahead of me … so I did what any run blogger would do: squats (3 x 10 @ 50lbs), planks (3 x 45 secs) and a fartlek (random sprints).

(I also did some other lower body lifts, but the squats were the main focus).

Since I took A1A so easy I haven’t had any issues with soreness which is nice. Both of my hips were super tight on Sunday but they’ve already loosened up 90%. My hamstrings also felt a little bit tight on Sunday butย with some extra stretching they’re back to normal now too.

Okay, so you see that hard gym floor in that pic up there ^? Well, all of the mats were taken at the gym yesterday so I had to plank on the micro-thin carpet and I ended up with rug burn on my right elbow – OUCH! Rug burn is some serious pain!!! It can easily rival the pain of a paper cut!

Thank goodness I had a good playlist to use as a distraction for the rest of the workout :).

    Wow no Cecil pictures ?

    I had some time alone in Monday while the fam was at the zoo…I cleaned the house lol. The life of a run blogger is so glamorous.

    Way to get some work done with those squats! Also glad to hear that everything loosened up pretty well for you! I think rug burn is worse than chafing! It just doesn’t seem to go away as fast!

      UGH seriously! I was wearing a long sleeve top while planking and still got the rug burn … and then this morning I put on a long sleeve top and was like OUCH. Just the contact from the shirt was so painful… or maybe I’m a wimp! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    I know a little bit about Kanye due to watching The View. He is going bankrupt, right? And asked Mark Zuckerberg to invest in him? And he claims he made Taylor Swift popular and she called him out in her Grammy speech? Am I on the right track? I can’t stand him, he’s such a douche!

      Hahaha I think all of the bankruptcy stuff is just a publicity stunt. I mean between him and Kim they must have just stacks of cash laying around. I love checking in on his twitter feed a couple times a day, which is exactly why he’s doing this. Good job to his PR team!

      In a song he said he made Taylor famous and that he thinks he can still have sex with her and called her a bitch, in a non-condescending way? So they say. Supposedly because he also calls his wife a bitch people shouldn’t take offense to him calling Taylor a bitch. He’s saying it… respectfully.

    Oh… I didn’t even know Kanye had stuff going on. Well, he’s kind of a turd, so… Haha!

    Nice job on a fartlek run! I love doing a little speed work. With all of the slow miles of marathon training, it is sometimes nice to just let your legs stretch out and see what you can do. I really should do more squats and strength training. I am sure I would be a better runner for it.

    Kayne. Ugh. He is such a train wreck, and it’s hard not to watch!!! I’ll admit it… I do watch the Kardashians every now and then. They intrigue me!!
    Glad to hear you weren’t too sore after your race! I’m hitting the gym today for my strength training day. I ran 14 miles this morning, and will do hard weights at lunch. Then collapse at home after work and fall asleep around 7:30pm I predict. haha!!

    Yeah, I would have given up on planks if the hard gym floor was my option. Rug burn is not for me.

    Umm, my workout playlist? Well, I haven’t updated my iPod (yes, I still use an iPod) since 2012. So the only Carly Ray Jepsen I listen to is Call Me Maybe. Haha

    Man, I’m so jealous you can work from home on the days when it’s impossible to get to work because of weather and stuff. I really need to update my playlist. It’s been the same for over a year! I just really hate dealing with iTunes, so I never update it!

    RUG BURN! Hurts like a M-Fer. I know I’ve talked about how much I like Amazon Prime playlists but they’ve recently stepped up their workout playlist game. It’s nice if you like to change it up ๐Ÿ™‚
