Started My Half Marathon Training Today

I’ve been looking forward to Day 1 of my half marathon training plan for a while now.Β I had visualized it as this glorious day where everything would go right and glitter would rain down on me.

Unfortunately, due to lack of sleep, soreness from yesterday’s weight lifting session and the early arrival of That Time of the Month, my first half marathon training run was anything but rainbows andΒ butterflies.

The training plan called for 30 minutes of running on Day 1. I added a 5 minute warmup and 5 minute cool down for a total workout of 40 minutes.

I did the first mile in 15 minutes, the second mile in just under 13 minutes and then another lap or so in the remaining time. The warm up and cool down both consisted of walking at a slow pace at a high incline.

My first mile was extra slow due to soreness that wouldn’t go away during the warmup; I wanted to work out those kinks before kicking up the pace. Bleh.

I’m looking forward to my first long run on Saturday. It’s “only” four miles but it will be an endurance test for me since I’ve only run four miles one time before.

To get to Saturday I first need to work my way through tomorrow’s weightlifting session and Thursday’s 30 minute run.

… You know, even on days like today when my run wasn’t perfect I still appreciate the fact that 6 months ago I couldn’t have (and wouldn’t have) even gone for a 30 minute run.

Now it’s time for me to curl up and get some sleep, just like this:

That’s my kitty, Cecil : ) Love him!
