Stopping for a Splash in St. Maarten
Hallo from St. Maarten!
Did you know the island of St. Maarten is actually divided between two countries? The southern part of the island (where I am writing this blog post from) is Dutch and part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The northern part of the island is spelled St. Martin and it is owned by France.
The entire island is very small and covers just 34 square miles in total. The French own about 20 miles and the Dutch own the rest. Even though St. Maarten (the Dutch area) is smaller it has the larger population!
I’ve never seen the French side but based on how beautiful the Dutch part of the island is I can see why people gravitate towards this area!
The water is the prettiest shade of blue and it’s crystal clear to look down into.
Adam and I slept in and hopped off of Harmony at about noon to stretch our legs and find some food. We took a ferry from the port over to the main part of town to peruse the shops and find a nice lunch spot.
There were a bunch of little shops and bars, but eventually we found a tiny little restaurant right on the water that served burgers and nachos. That’s our kind of vacation food :). I snapped a pic of the restaurant but I can’t get it to upload so you’re just going to have to take my word for now!
After lunch I was dying to dip my toes into the Caribbean water. I don’t like to go into the ocean because I have a fish phobia but I decided I could make an exception this one time!
The water felt refreshing after a hot stroll around the island. I think the temperature must have been in the mid-80s which felt just like home … which is to say very warm!
After a few hours on the island we were ready to head back onto the ship to hit the gym.
I love being able to sync my Garmin in new places around the world. Someday I will have synced on every Caribbean island! 🙂
My only wish is that Cecil could be here too. My mom sent me this pic yesterday and said that he is relentless when it comes to mooching food.
Yep, that sounds like my boy. He doesn’t often hear the word “no” in my house. This is how Adam and I know we would be terrible parents. We enable him and we’re aware of it. 🙂
I hope that you’re having a great week! Let me know what you’ve been up to — send me a snap (@KristinaRunning) or leave a comment below!
Best part of your week so far?
Do you have a hard time saying no to your pets too?
– I’m guessing dog parents are probably better at this!
