Strangely Satisfying + First Run of the Training Plan!

Yesterday was my first official beach run of summer marathon training!

Monday was technically my first day of training, but since Monday will be my rest day I didn’t have anything to do!

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but the official Hansons Coaching Services website offers consultations ($60/hr). There’s no way to sign up on their site anymore, you have to just reach out via email and set one up. You can do it through Skype, phone or email if you really prefer.

Because I don’t think it’s realistic for me to run 57 miles per week at the peak of training via the traditional Hansons Beginner plan I decided to use their 40 mile per week plan. However, one weird thing about the 40 MPW plan is that you only run 5 days instead of 6 days.

I’m already used to running six days a week and I want to make sure I accumulate fatigue properly (lol) so I reached out to the Hansons coaching team about modifying the plan. I was instructed to replace the cross training only day with a 3-5 mile run; 3 at the beginning and 5 closer to the middle/end of the plan. That means my plan will top out at 45 MPW instead of 40 which sounds good to me!Β Since I just had one easy question they answered without me having to pay which was really nice!

My first run last night was only three miles so I had time to get in a good stretch and sit by the water to just enjoy it!

When I got home an exciting delivery was waiting for me!

I think this might be the biggest box I’ve ever received. Sunday night I may have went on a little shopping spree 😁!

I decided I wanted a new bed comforter which turned into needing a set of new pillows as well. Obviously that turned into needing new sheets …and then Cecil said he wanted an automatic litter box.

How could I say no to that face?!

Before I sign off today I just have to share thisΒ importantΒ text conversation between Adam and I:

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 8.47.04 PM

I mean, seriously?Β Pretty sure you can’t see this goat enough times.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever ordered online?

The pillows have to be up there for me. They came in a bag with the air all sucked out to make them small for shipping, but as soon as I cut open the bag they puffed up super quickly! It was very strangely satisfying to watch!!!

Thats awesome that they helped you adjust your plan like that! And Im glad you didn’t have to pay $65 for that one question:)

Me too! I was sort of hoping they would see my one question and just respond, haha πŸ™‚ If I had to pay for the consultation I would have brainstormed to come up with a bunch of questions! Or maybe crowd sourced questions on the blog and gotten everyone’s questions answered haha!

I am super excited for you to start your training plan! Also, can I just say I know it’s so totally normal for most runners to run 6x per week but I can’t imagine running that much. I am always happy to swim or cycle because running every day just makes me feel in a rut. But I digress. I love that goat, too! Keep him in your life. How nice to get some goodies for you guys and Cecil. I love online shopping and can be very dangerous. I order almost everything except our food. This isn’t something strange but it was funny because one time the toilet paper I ordered (a giant 36 roll pack) came delivered to our front porch and it wasn’t boxed up at all….nope, just a huge pack of TP waiting for us (it did have an address label on it).

    1. Kristina

Hahahaha that’s so funny that the TP just was waiting on the porch! I ordered a 48 pack a couple of months ago and it came as a bunch of 6 roll packs. It didn’t occur to me that once I had all the rolls I would have to store them. Every bathroom cabinet you open now has a bunch of rolls in them! They’re all over the place!

I would send that goat a million times, too.

I bet Cecil is really excited about that giant box! It’s like his own little kingdom!

I’m so excited that your plan has officially begun!!! I think spectating marathon training is just as exciting as spectating a marathon!

Oh, as soon as I dragged the box in Cecil sat on top of it like he’s King of the Box! He didn’t go in it a lot though. I think it’s actually too big. He likes squeezing into tiny boxes, like shoe boxes … even though he’s really too big for them!

You make me laugh the way you describe your purchases and then that Cecil asked for a litter box. πŸ˜‰ Sometimes going to the store is a PAIN IN THE BUTT and then I remember I can probably get anything I need in 2 days with Amazon Prime! You know what I need now though? A new Cilantro plant because a damn bunny ate mine before I put up the chicken wire. I don’t think I can order a Cilantro plant from Amazon though!

That is really nice they answered your question without charging! I was already thinking about reaching out to them in the case that I don’t BQ in Sept. I would hope to try again in Nov. but I would need guidance as to what to do during those 8 weeks in between races. Do you think that is the type of thing a consultation could help me with? $60/hr is not bad at ALL!

I think 45 mpw will be perfect for you too!

Hahaha well I couldn’t just put it out there on the blog that I was afraid my cat was sad because he couldn’t flush his toilet so I had to buy an automatic litter box. That would make me sound crazy, and I can only share those kind of crazy thoughts with you! πŸ˜€

I definitely think the consultation would work for that. They give you about an hour for the consultation so it would be perfect!

I love when big boxes show up! Lots of goodies!!
The goat…yes! A million times yes!
I don’t really order too many odd things, the normal stuff (running things) is about it.
I like that they help adjust the plan as necessary. I am really looking forward to reading as you and others work through Hansons. I love reading about training!!

ME TOO! Got another two boxes today πŸ˜€ It feels like Christmas!

I love reading about training too! I think I enjoy training posts more than race recaps! haha

Stretching by the beach would be awesome. So excited for your Chi Training. That text conversation is so weird but I look back over some of my text conversations and think “what the Heck were we talking about” lol.

We ordered our bed mattress online. It came all vacuumed up and once you cut the plastic it turns into a mattress, pretty cool!

WHAT?! You ordered a mattress online? I seriously would never have thought to do that because I wouldn’t have thought it could be shipped! Now you’ve got my mind spinning. Maybe my new comforter, pillows and sheets want a new mattress! πŸ˜‰

I bet watching the mattress puff up was so cool!

  7. Lisa @ TechChick Adventures

We just received a Pusheen plush that I ordered online for my daughter’s birthday. We thought it was pretty funny that a little stuffed cat was wrapped in air pillows in the shipping box. No way that kitty was going to get damaged in it’s trip!
Yeah Hansons plan! I just had my coach switch my track & tempo days. The weekends are going to be a challenge. I’m not used to running so much on the weekend! I’m also struggling with how vague the weekly mileage is because you have to add in all of those warm ups and cool downs. I haven’t quite figured it out yet!

AH-HAHAHAH that’s so funny that the plush was wrapped in air pillows. Safety first! πŸ˜€

Switching days around to fit your schedule makes a lot of sense, esp with summer coming up for you and the fam. I made Monday my rest day even though I think the plan technically has Wed or Thurs as the rest day. The book said as long as you’re consistent in doing your rest, speed and strength days the same days every week, it’s okay to switch the actual days around!

Yay! I’m so glad that you have started training for Chicago. I can’t believe that it’s 20 weeks away…. I am so not ready!! I am modifying my plan a little too so that I am running more on the week days and less on the weekends, since we go out of town so much.

Cecil is so adorable! I don’t think I could say no to that face either. πŸ™‚ Elly wants an auto litter box, but she wants too many things and I can’t keep up.

Hahah Cecil is a simple man. He just wants treats, a clean litter box, head rubs and for no one to touch his belly EVER! (We sometimes lightly touch his belly while he’s sleeping lololol)

  9. Heather

My husband and I definitely bought a mattress online (Casper). Great purchase and we’re happy with it. Came in a box not much bigger than yours and inflated in front of us. Was so weird to watch. In other news, your animal cruelty free posts have inspired me and I have a consultation with Sephora on Friday to replace all my makeup. Thanks for opening my eyes (and then brightening them with new animal friendly makeup!!).

    1. Kristina

I’ve heard such good things about Casper, I need to do a little research on it! My mattress is only 3.5 years old but anything that can improve my sleep is worth checking out!

Ohhh that’s very exciting about Sephora! I love going in and letting them make recommendations. Only once have I been led astray. I was told to buy an Urban Decay copper brown eyeshadow (can’t remember the name). Under the store lights it looked pretty, but in natural lighting … oh man! I checked it as soon as I got in the car in my visor mirror and was horrified! I didn’t want the woman to feel bad, so I took the eyeshadow home and returned it another day! hah!
