I Don’t Know How I Got So Lucky
Back when I was about 10 years old I filled out a form I found in a magazine and sent it off with a few dollars to a pen pal company that promised to pair me up with a new friend somewhere else in the country.
The other little girl that I got paired with taught me pig latin and we wrote each other letters in the secret language for quite a while. I loved it!
Hanging around in the run blogger world is sort of like having THE BEST pen pals that are located all around the globe.
I don’t know how I got so lucky to know such amazing people, but I cannot thank you all enough for your encouragement and support leading up to the Portland Marathon. All of the comments, tweets and emails have been really helpful!
In case you were wondering …. I DID IT.
Portland sure does hook you up with a lot of nice stuff in the finisher’s shoot!
My shirt is about 10X too big, but I didn’t care, I wore that sucker to the airport! : )
The marathon took me 7 hours and 11 minutes. That’s almost full hour longer than I intended to be on the course.
My A goal was 5:59 which I thought might be possible given the cooler weather, and my goal based on my 20-miler was around 6:20. I really thought 6:30 would be the absolute longest I would EVER be on that course.
You know what they say about making assumptions…
I’ll have a full re-cap of the race soon, but I have a lot of thoughts to process first … and that will need to come from a non-jet lagged brain! (We took the red eye home last night.)
A BIG special thank you to Ali who sent me the PERFECT surprise gift on Saturday afternoon:
I read ALL of it before I went to bed on Sat night. Thank you so much Ali!
And another BIG special thank you to Meg for this motivating picture:
Prediction: someday Meg and I will live in the same city and our children will have playdates together. And by children I definitely mean cats, just in case that wasn’t obvious! : )
Aaaaaand another big special thank you to Lou for this:
Lou and I are going to run the Bali marathon together someday! I just need a bit of time to get my pace down so I can hang with her speedy legs! ; )
Thank you again to everyone for your tweets, comments, emails and support.
I don’t know how I got so lucky to know all of you!
Despite the rough goings in Portland, another marathon is most definitely in my future … but it’s going to be in nice, flat Florida!
