The Bed is Here + I Love Them!

Sorry about my whiney running post yesterday, but the more days I go without a long run while reading about EVERYONE IN THE WORLD MARATHON TRAINING the more desperate I feel :). That 4min 30 sec run did cheer me up for a little bit though!

Today I’ve got a new vlog to share and it’s pretty makeup heavy (as in I talk about makeup a lot). I know this is like a recurring theme now. That’s mostly because I am distracting myself from not running by taking on the adventure of trying to find the right foundation, concealer, primer, powder, etc.

All things I don’t really think about when my mind is consumed with SPF, visors, running shoes and pre-run snacks!

(^Did you see the “I Love Them” clip at 6:17?!)

I did end up exchanging some no bueno products for some new ones at both Ulta and Sephora this weekend. In total I only spent about $15 net new money (thankful for good exchange policies)!

I got the Urban Decay De-Slick primer to replace that Tarte one I bought last weekend (it was too oily for me). So far I am liking this UD one. I need to give it a few more days before a final verdict though!

I got a few more things that I mentioned in my blog including my birthday gift from Sephora – my first birthday gift of the year! :). It’s a bit early but hey I’ll take it!

(BTW you can subscribe to my YouTube channel for free to get notified when new videos go up. I would love if you did!)

An even better birthday gift was dun dun dun … the new headboard/bedframe arriving and fitting up the stairs!

Now it’s time for Phase 2 of Operation Bedroom: finding wall decor and styling the side tables. That will probably come after we finish the downstairs bathroom though since we’re the only people who see the bedroom … except for all of the blog readers haha!

When the delivery guys had the front door propped open a lizard ran in and Cecil zoomed in on that little thing so fast.

Luckily the lizard knew to hang up there until Cecil got bored and laid down for a nap. He was the first one to get to sleep in the new bed! Of course he was. C has to lay on everything new that comes in the house as soon as it arrives!

He’s also content to lay on things that have been in the house for a while too. King of the pillows.

Adam and I were so excited to finally get rid of our old bedframe and headboard. It was a wooden one from IKEA that we got way back in the day. It actually worked well for many years and looked nice, but I’m excited for the change.

Goodbye old bed!

All in all I think we had a productive weekend, although it wasn’t nearly long enough. I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving break. How many days until then? ๐Ÿ˜€ just kidding.

I hope you have a great Tuesday! Let me know what kind of foundation and primer you’re using right now if you’re into makeup chat! Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you like any Urban Decay products?ย
The brand has a special place in my heart because the very first “nice” makeup product I ever bought was an eyeshadow from them when I was about 12!

Where do you buy your bedding?ย
I need a nice, new comforter or duvet but don’t want to spend a million bucks but also want to upgrade over this IKEA one. The only other one we have I ordered off of Amazon:).ย

Did you see the I LOVE THEM clip in my vlog at 6:17? My little family <3.

I will get to watch your vlog later. I love your vlogs ๐Ÿ™‚ That new bed is so amazing! I need to order new bedding and it’s so overwhelming so I have done nothing. If you find any place that has nice stuff for good prices, let me know.

Hahahah we are the same. Once I feel overwhelmed I do nothing and pretend the issue doesn’t exist until I am more mentally prepared to deal with it. Sometimes that’s major life decisions and sometimes that’s what to do about bedding! ๐Ÿ˜€

When I upgraded from a full size to queen size last year I had to buy all new bedding so I can make suggestions on just about anything bed related. I got our duvet from Nordstrom (currently on sale! http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/nordstrom-at-home-down-alternative-comforter/3278010). It was a bit expensive but since I don’t wash the actual comforter often (just wash the duvet cover), I wanted to buy from a store with a solid return policy in case I run into issues with it down the road. I also was considering LL Bean, but I wanted a true white not cream colored duvet…even though it gets covered…I’m kind of particular.

I actually don’t use a primer. I use a slightly drying Asian sunscreen that pretty much works as a primer too. The great thing about Asian sunscreens is that they tend to be more cosmetically elegant than US sunscreens and work much better under makeup. My foundation is currently NARS tinted moisturizer or Hourglass Illusion. The Hourglass has fuller coverage, but feels heavier on my skin. I like the NARS one better, which really sucks because I won’t be purchasing from them anymore. I can completely relate to spending more time on makeup to distract myself from the fact that I’m not running. I did the same thing last fall and winter. On the plus side, after countless buy & returns I finally found a liquid lipstick that I like (Marc Jacobs thanks to YOU!).

PS: NYX is pronounced “niks.” The brand is named after the Greek goddess ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the link! I’m nervous about the description “medium weight.” We have a similar one that we never use because most things described as medium weight are too hot for us. Adam BURNS up at night and is like a furnace. Cecil is also like a furnace. It’s like I sleep between two fire pits!

That’s so interesting about the sunscreen. I have started looking into Korean cosmetics but I haven’t taken the plunge yet. Do you recommend any specific brands?

Thanks for the tip about NYX! I used to say “nics” but then I heard someone else say N-Y-X and I was like “well clearly she knows what she’s talking about I better copy her” haha! ๐Ÿ˜€

The sunscreen that I use is by Innisfree (this one, but I actually buy it on amazon http://www.innisfreeworld.com/product/productView.do?prdSeq=10812&eventSeq=0&catCd01=UA). I had a hard time settling on a sunscreen because a lot of the sun blocking ingredients trigger my rosacea, so you might have more options available to you. I also had a hard time determining which brands were cruelty free. All the brands under the parent company AmorePacific, including Innisfree, are supposed to be cruelty free.

Also: forgot you lived in Florida. Do not buy that comforter, you will be roasting. Source: I had to pack it away for summer.

Love your blog! I am obsessed with Urban Decay – I want every single one of their lipsticks haha and I love their eyeshadow palettes! My fav color is “Midnight Cowboy Rides Again” ๐Ÿ™‚

Also I love your headboard – I definitely need to get one of these!

    1. Kristina

Hey Marina! Thanks so much ๐Ÿ™‚ I wouldn’t hate it someone gave me every single one of their lipsticks either! haha

  4. Hanna @ minimal marathoner

I understand your frustration – this is definitely a difficult time of year, socially, for sidelined runners. The past two summers were definitely weird for me as I felt like I was the only one in the world not marathon training. And it probably will be again next year, as I’m just not sure I have it in me to do another summer marathon training cycle!

We got our down comforter from Kevin’s brother, and we’ve always bought all our other bedding at Target. Their selection isn’t awesome, but I’m all about keeping it simple and I hate shopping, so we deal.

I am not a big fan of shopping for most things in store. I was sort of hoping I could find the perfect duvet on Amazon but I looked through 10 pages and didn’t find a single one that fit all my criteria! I just need it to be pretty and super lightweight since Adam and Cecil both turn into furnaces at night!

The bed looks good! Cecil climbing the wall even better, I am chuckling about how entertaining the lizard must have been for him!
I have not tried primer in years, you are going to get me hooked on something else lol

    1. Kristina

Hahaha I’m all about the primer! My makeup used to disappear in two seconds until I started using it. I feel like if I’m going to invest time (and money) into wearing other things I better wear primer to protect that investment haha! ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Megan @ Meg Go Run

Do lizards come in houses often? We get bugs in here from time to time. The worst are thousand l eggers!

I think We got our comforter somewhere like TJ MAXX. I know we def got our sheets there because we like to have a really high threadcount and they always good deals there. I guess I care more about the sheets because they touch me!

OH MAN we don’t really get bugs… and we never used to get lizards… but over the last couple of weeks we have had so many lizards in the house. I’ve been able to catch and release a few of them, but Cecil has also gotten to a few of them when we weren’t home :/

I love soft high thread count sheets but I never get to wrap myself in them because Adam kicks them off the bed in 2.2 seconds every nigh! ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. Heather @ GGR

Your bed is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that Cecil finds his way into your photos much the way Lola does. We are getting an IKEA here in September and I’m so excited!
