The Race Series I’m Thinking About Doing

 We’ve made it to Thursday!

I’ve got just three thoughts for this Thursday….

1. I am Considering Running the Florida Storm Series!

Yesterday I wrote that I was pretty sure I would run the Fort Lauderdale half marathon this coming November.

As I was poking around the race site a bit I noticed the the half is part of the Florida Storm Series.  If you run 3 to 5 of the races in the series you earn extra medals!

(KIM! Maybe that will get your son excited about coming down to do the Fort Lauderdale half and a couple others!)



The races I would get to choose from are:

  • The Fort Lauderdale Half – Nov. 9th
  • Palm Beaches Marathon & Half – Dec. 7th
  • Miami Marathon & Half – Jan. 25th
  • Miami Beach Half – Mar. 1st
  • Sarasota Half & Relay – Mar. 15th

Right now I am thinking about doing the Fort Lauderdale Half, the Palm Beaches Half and the Sarasota Half (<<<< just to try something different). Those races would earn me the extra “3” medal. I like the big “5” medal but I don’t really want to run the Miami races.

The only reason the Sarasota one might not work out is because the 50K I have my eye on for next year usually takes place the last week of March. They haven’t released the 2015 date yet though so we’ll see…

2. On Speedwork Day I Treat Myself to a Nice Lunch Out. 

As most of you know, I am an evening runner. I head out the door right after work and before I eat dinner.

I generally don’t eat solids for 3 to 4 hours before my evening runs during the spring and summer because my only bathroom options between my house and the beach are port-o-potties at construction sites… and we’re talking port-o-potties that have been baking in the mid-90s sun all day. NO THANK YOU to that situation! (During the winter I am more willing to brave them.)

Once I get to the beach I have more options, chiefly a public restroom that the homeless people hang out in front of and of course the restaurants that are along the beach that probably don’t want my sweaty, stinky self visiting when I have no intention of buying anything.

Soooooo I don’t eat before I go running during the summer. That means I need to have a nice, large lunch. I could bring a big lunch to work, but instead I usually treat myself to something special on speedwork day. I think you should do this too! It’s a really nice mid-week treat : )

I do eat before I go running, just not solids … usually Greek yogurt or a thick smoothie. 

3. I have just one episode of Orange is the New Black left to watch! 

Provided I watch the last episode before Friday night that will mean I watched two whole seasons in less than a week!



I didn’t love this second season as much as the first one, but I am excited to see what happens next!

    I loooooove that picture of Pennsyltucky! I was laughing at your port o pot comment. You know, my gross out factor for port o johns is directly correlated with how bad I have to go.

    That race series sounds awesome, and those extra medals are super cool. Hope the three races work out for you. Dying laughing about your port o John dilemma lol. I treat myself to lunch on one of my elevation days. Tuesday has been deemed Chipotle Tuesday because I have to refuel after my morning trail run. Wow two seasons in less than a week, that is impressive. Then again I did the same with Breaking Bad, I was addicted.

    Never ran a race series but with extra medals like that I would totally go for it.

    OMG do the Sarasota Half! I’ll be there!!! I haven’t run it myself, but a good friend ran it last year and said the course was amazing. I signed up when the price was 50% off, on a whim, so I know I’ll definitely be there!

    That storm series sounds fun!

    I guess you have too many folks to just squat and go…I can hide behind a bush, dumpster don’t care lol if I have to go I have to go lol Treating your self to a nice lunch is a great idea, motivation 🙂 The item on a stick does remind of something from Hunger games though…sorry, I am sure it tastes wonderful. I love the idea of a race series, i am having racers envy right now! I don’t think we have any series close that involve half’s at all. That’s one sure fire way to have to keep running “)

    We don’t have any race series that I am aware of here in Oregon, but I would absolutely sign up if we did. It always seems like Florida has a million races going on at any given time (just based on the blogs I follow). I have been watching OITNB obsessively. Love it. I agree that the first season was a little better Some of the characters in this season REALLY bother me I have 4 episodes left!

    That race series looks like a ton of fun! Definitely do it! I haven’t started Orange is the New Black. I am waiting until I can watch the season in pretty much just a few days.

    I would love to do a race series. The problem is having enough openings in the family schedule to make it work!

    I treat myself to a 15 minute power nap in the afternoon after speed work (I guess I am showing my age!!!)

    Luckily, I live in a rural enough area that the woods are there in an emergency…

    jajajjajaa!!! i almost threw up imagining using a port a potty that was out in 90 degree weather!
    I’m also an evening runner only because my husband works and I don’t (yet) so I’m home with the kids. I run in the mornings on weekends though.
    That race serious looks fun!!! I coincidently got an extra medal for doing a Rock and Roll race in the U.S and one in Europe–I guess it’s called World Rocker. I was stoked for getting extra bling unknowingly 🙂

    Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂 The B.A.A Medley has been fabulous, but such a financial/time commitment. Luckily I can stay with my sister for free! While I would love to do it again next year, there are so many races to try out on the same weekends. The Florida Storm series sounds fun!

    Oh – the race series would be fun – maybe I could convince my husband that this is the year I winter in FL – then I could do them all!!!
    I don’t eat at all before I run – doesn’t work well for me.

    Yay for extra medals!! That sounds awesome!
    I have never participated in a race series, but I would like to (especially if it means more race bling, haha).
    That’s SO exciting about your 50km debut too! Looking forward to hearing where it is and all about it. 🙂

    The only things I can handle eating before any kind of more intense exercise are fruits or dry carbs. I once had chili right before a run because I had no idea I’d be running, and yeah…. Let’s just say I’ll never be doing that again 😯
