The Weekly RUNdown!

Hey! How’s it going? We’re just over here hanging out.

I’m working from home a couple of days a week right now and all of Cecil’s dramatic sleeping poses are keeping me amused!

It seems bae may have outgrown his crib tree ;).

I forgot to share a recap of my training last week in yesterday’s post so let’s roll with it today:

20150131_171417 (1)

Monday: 4 miles easy
Tuesday: stationary bike
Wednesday: 3 miles easy
Thursday: 4 mile run with pickups + strength
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 6 mile run  4 mile run
Sunday: 8 mile run

Total: 24 miles 23 miles

My coach is having me slowly work my way back up to a 30 miles per week base before reincorporating any real speedwork into my schedule. Right now I’m all about building my mileage, getting my long run endurance back and spending time on my feet.

I kept asking my coach about paces and she finally just said, “I promise you’re going to be doing a lot of hard runs this summer so enjoy this easy period!” Haha, okay, I get it! I need to just RELAX and trust the process!

Speaking of the process, I have my second back-to-back long run this weekend. Eight miles on Saturday and eight miles on Sunday. I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to this! The idea of running a 16 mile long run this early in my training plan would be completely overwhelming from a mental standpoint, but running 8+8 doesn’t sound bad at all. I’ll let you know how I feel on Monday, but right now I feel like this is a really good thing!

And in other news I have continued my stationary buying trend and am finally seeing what all the hoopla is about with Moleskine notebooks.

20150625_140126

They seem like they’re just overpriced notebooks?  I haven’t written in a Moleskine yet though. Maybe when I put pen to paper I’ll end up banging out the next Harry Potter series or something.

Finally, because I am sure you care, I picked up the latest Fort Lauderdale magazine and found my apartment complex featured inside in an article about new complexes in the area!

20150626_155950East Fort Lauderdale is going through some pretty major changes right now and in my opinion the most exciting part is that we’re finally getting a Trader Joe’s and a Nordstrom Rack… AND they’re going to be in the same shopping center! Goodbye paycheck!

Do you have a Trader Joe’s near you? Is it really better than Whole Foods or Fresh Market?

Anyone else counting down the days until 4th of July weekend? I can’t wait!

Near our new house we have Whole Foods and Fresh Market about a mile away, and a Trader Joes thats a 10 minutes drive. We have been going to Trader Joes the most because of the cost. We usually still pick up a few things at Fresh Market or a standard grocery store, but do the majority of our shopping at TJs. And the people who work there are SO nice!

You are too funny with your stationary (I do the same)…yesterday my watercolor kit arrived haha. I love TJs – cost is good and they have fun snacks and seasonal products (plus the staff is pretty fun). It is literally across from my apartment so very convenient. I still go to Whole Foods (on the way home from work) – I do like their produce better than TJs (wider selection). In a year or two I’ll have two Whole Foods half mile away from me in two directions!

    I love Cecil! So adorable.

I live in a tiny town, so we don’t have Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. We do have a Co-op, which I like a lot. I also can’t wait until 4th of July weekend! I am headed to Colorado to do a backpacking trip near Aspen. So excited.

How do you get work done with that guy just laying around lol.

Training looks to be off to a solid start. We often talk about how we have to be mentally engaged for training to go well. So if,your brought into back to backs, that is awesome.

Csnt wait for Saturday, we are having a remembrance run for our countries freedom that day. It’s going to be a great time.

Trader Joe’s is my top go to store aside from Costco for groceries. Not everything there is organic ( a lot is organic though) like Whole Foods but the prices can’t be beat.

Nordstrom Rack + Trader Joes = Deadly combination. You will never be able to hit up one without hitting up the other. So yes, goodbye paycheck. ☺ Trader Joes is a lot better than whole foods (in my opinion) because the prices are VERY reasonable and you can make it out without spending $100 on 5 items. So your paycheck may be saved after all.

I can’t wait until the 4th of July. My husband and I are heading up to Seattle tomorrow to visit his family. We are celebrating at his mom’s cabin on Camano Island and will be watching fireworks over the Puget Sound. SO excited!!! Do you have any big plans?

Great week! It’s good to ease into it, things will get tough soon enough! Actually 8 and 8 sound really tough to me right now lol I haven’t run that far since April…good grief.
I have been in a Trader Joe’s! We have a Good Foods closer I like, but yes it’s all dangerous on the pocket book. You can always find new things to try!

I am glad you get to work from home a few days! Cecil must love it.

8 + 8 back to back runs sounds awesome. I can’t wait to hear how it goes. 🙂

I no I am the only person in the world to say this but I am NOT into Trader Joes! I went to one in MD once. I tried to like it. I WANTED to like it. I just didn’t see what the fuss was.

  9. Ali @ Hit the Ground Running

I find TJ’s very overrated. Everyone seems to love it but I was really disappointed.

Great job on your workouts this week. I think 8+8 sounds less scary than 16, too lol. Especially because 16 in the height of summer sounds really painful! 🙂

In my training I always did a semi-long run the day before the long run, and I can assure you it’s really not that bad. The trick is keeping the first one really easy to save energy. I’m sure your back to backs will go similarly well!

We have a Trader Joe’s but it is clear on the other side of town, so we don’t shop there 🙁 There was one near my apartment when I was a DC intern for the summer and I used to love going there – so affordable! I wish we had one closer to me but we do have a great co-op, and I love that I can buy local.

Ohhhh I love new notebooks! I’ve never heard of a moleskine, I just use regular old composition notebooks. Everytime I start a new project/have an epiphany/plan to travel I HAVE to buy a new composition book to write out all my plans!

Good look on your 8+8! Sounds pretty scary but you’re going to nail it!

  12. Annette @ Sweating Through Life

We have a Trader Joes, but we don’t have whole foods or anything really to compare it to, so I don’t know which is better. We also have Wegmans though….and wegmans is the best:) Totally different markets though, I know.
I CANNOT wait for the holiday weekend because that means I’m on vacation for a week and a half from work!!! Get here now!

You’re doing awesome! Love that you’re building back up slowly — we all know that’s the best approach, even if it can be frustrating! I know I am DEFINITELY enjoying my “easy” period right now before NYCM training kicks into full swing in a couple of weeks, haha. You’ll crush that 8+8! 🙂

    Oh, and I love Trader Joe’s! 🙂

Great week! Exciting you’re getting a TJ and a Nordstrom Rack! I just starting getting HauteLook & already got some great dels. TJ is awesome, but it’s so easy to buy stuff I don’t need there just because they have so many awesome things, so I don’t go too often. But they have great prices on fruit, and I get a lot of essentials there (olive oil, cocoa powder, flour, vanilla extract, maple syrup are all much cheaper than at the grocery store).
