There’s a First Time for Everything

Hey there! Yesterday I did something I have never done before in my 31 years on this planet: I had a cavity filled.

I hate going to the dentist but my ortho said before I get my Invisalign trays I had to have a couple of cavities filled.

Like most things I fear the whole process ended up being a lot easier than I expected it to be :). That’s not to say I am eager to get more cavities to have them filled,  but I didn’t hate the laughing gas!

As a reward I got to come home, knock out an awesome tempo run, and read the first couple chapters of North by Scott Jurek! If you’ve been reading my blog for a long time then you know Scott is my absolute favorite pro runner. I think I’ve read his first book, Eat and Run, about 8 or 9 times.

In this new book Scott documents his successful attempt at breaking the speed record for running the Appalachian Trail in 2015. He had to cover an average of 50 miles per day for 46 days straight to break the record!

I remember looking at Scott’s Facebook Page every day back in 2015 to check on his progress. I have been eagerly awaiting this book since Day 1 of his journey. I’m so excited to finally have this book in my hands!!!!

I’m only a couple chapters in but I already highly recommend the book, but then again I am a Scott Jurek mega fan :).

    I’m going to see him talk next week & will likely buy it then. My boyfriend hiked the AT so we are both interested in his book.

      OMG I’m SOOOOO jealous that you’re going to go see him talk! Take lots of pictures and post every single detail of the experience in your blog so I can live vicariously through you!

    Wow!! You have read the book 9 times? That’s amazing! Do you ever cook any of the recipes? I found a copy of his strawberry pancakes recipe, that I never made.

    He ran close to here, and a local running group was following him, and they met up to run with him at the AT! It looked like an amazing adventure!

      I used to finish the book and then immediately restart it the next day (or sometimes the same day)! Scott was the first ultrarunner that I ever heard of and I couldn’t get enough of reading about 100 mile races through crazy conditions. Even though I hadn’t even run a half marathon yet I found it so inspirational that I just kept reading it over and over again!

    I have to check out the book. I grew up hiking large parts of the AT and it is a dream for my husband and I to hike the whole trail together!! Running the AT? Holy hell. 🙂
