Things I Don’t Feel Like Doing Today

Argh, no post yesterday because I’M SICK! I hate being sick. It’s the worst! I wasn’t feeling great when I woke up on Sunday and things just went progressively downhill after that.

I haven’t run since Saturday!

Truthfully I am feeling so bad that running just doesn’t sound appealing (GASP!). And this is coming from a girl who has popped Vicodin so she could run through neck spasms.

The last few days the only marathon on my mind has been making my way through the final season of True Blood as quickly as possible. I watched all 10 episodes in 2 days. I’m going to write to the Boston Athletic Association and ask if that counts as a BQ.

I didn’t love the series finale but I did think this last season was better than the previous two seasons combined.

I really liked that Hoyt and Jessica got back together. That was really unexpected and appealed to the romantic in me! I’m not sure how many readers are True Blood fans though so I’ll just leave it at that for now.

As for my plan going forward? Well, I ate more yesterday than I had been eating and my intention is to run a couple of easy miles tonight. Or at least one easy mile. Or at least a half a mile. Just something that doesn’t make me feel like I’m completely wasting my last precious few weeks of marathon training before the big day.

Just the fact that I can actually think about running without wanting to curl up into a ball under the covers is a good thing. I fully intend to write a post tomorrow that says I RAN YESTERDAY. Maybe not in all caps.

Please cross your fingers that I start feeling much better soon!

What’s your best remedy for getting over a cold? Any family secrets you can share?

Yikes – feel better!! Total BQ! When I am sick I like tea, soup (broth), and sleep.

I have been drinking SO MUCH TEA. When I’m sick it’s all I want!

  2. The running Schlub

Blah…getting sick just sucks. I load up on warm soups, and believe it or not I use yard work or running to sweat out the cold. Plus tons of rest.

That’s crazy! I instantly become a big baby when I have a cold and just lay around drinking tea. This was SUCH a bad time for me to get sick!

  3. Kristen @ Glitter and Dust

Feel better soon, Kristina! I have been looking for a new show to start (get addicted to) and have heard great things about True Blood. Might have to give it a try! When I am sick I drink a ton of diet 7Up and Ginger Ale, sleep sleep sleep, and go on little walks around the neighborhood just to get out and get fresh air. Even if you don’t run this evening, a walk would probably make you feel a little better.

Thanks, Kristen! I have done my fair share of sleeping these last few days.

I really liked the first few seasons of True Blood. I even ended up reading the books they are based on.

Oh no! I hope you feel better. My favorite cold remedy…chicken broth heated with lots of fresh ginger, “ester C” drink, zinc (If you can catch it early and stomach the zinc) and REST.
Even if you don’t run, take a nice walk…

I used a Netti Pot one time and it was helpful, but I get really nervous using them! I have no idea why, but they totally scare me!

  7. Kim

Oh, no – so sorry that you have been sick – never fun but it always seems worse when it’s hot!!!
Glad that you are starting to feel at least a little better -don’t push yourself too much with running – better to get well first instead of ending up right back where you started the week!!!

You are so right, when it’s hot out and your body is burning up, life just stinks! I ended up taking the full week off from running, I just didn’t have the energy for it!

  8. Megan @ Meg Go Run

Yuck 🙁 Feel better! I laughed at your BQ joke. 🙂 I actually have no run since Saturday either, but not because I’m sick. Just keep relaxing and run when you feel ready. It will be glorious!

  9. Lou @ Running Through China

Oh no!! Get well soon Kristina! How frustrating and rubbish hey. But get lots of rest, rest, rest and you’ll be right as rain as soon as possible. I think it’s your body’s way of getting it out of your system now, before it’s too much closer to race-day. Don’t stress and have water/rest/water/rest/water. Oh and lemsip/paracetamol/cold&flu drugs too. Hope you’re feeling heaps better soon! xx

    1. Kristina @ Blog About Running

I didn’t think of it like that, you’re so right, I am really happy it happened now and not during race week!!!

  10. Helly

I hope you feel better!! I haven’t run since Monday if that helps lol!

Haha, is it bad for me to say it does make me feel better? I’m not alone in my non-running!

  11. Hanna

Ha! Love the BQ joke! This is going to sound like the weirdest thing you’ve ever heard, but I am sometimes grateful for when I get sick (unless I get REALLY sick. That’s bad). As much as it sucks being ill, I can take time off and sleep a lot and spoil myself and no one gives me crap about it. It’s the one time I can take off work or school and people actually leave me alone. So in a way, it’s great! Silver linings, right?? LOL.

I don’t have any remedies other than resting and eating soup and toughing it out *flexes muscles*, but when I’m sick I like to spend time on the couch instead of my bed. You can only lie around in your own sicky germs for so long, you know? Eventually I need to get out and get some fresh air too.

    Feel better!!!!!!

Your comment got me to move to the couch! 🙂

I totally know what you mean about getting to take a time-out from life. If only I could eat something more than chicken broth and cough drops. I was totally tapped out of energy the whole week!

  12. Courtney @RunningforCupcakes

Ugh I’m sorry you’re sick. I think something is going around because I know of a lot of people who are sick right now and I feel like it is such a random time! I think rest is the best thing for you right now!

  14. Heather @ GirlGoesRunning

Oh no, feel better! I had a cold last year that kept grabbing on and since I teach elementary school kids I’m always getting coughed and sneezed on. My vice principal at school recommended that I use Oil of Oregano and Put a drop or two in a tall glass of water to drink it. It was awful, but I got better…lol.
