Guess what showed up in my inbox this week?
This little beauty!
You know I hung it up on my wall at work right away!
The certificate represents the perfect reminder to just take a deep breath and carry on whenever anything at work starts to bug me!
I hunt the certificate in its rightful place: near my picture of Adam, Cecil and tin of fancy chocolates. All the important stuff in my life in one spot.
So, you remember on Monday it was 82 degrees on my run? Last night it was 62 degrees! Yep, that arctic blast has finally hit South Florida!
I went for a nice easy run before warming up with a chicken burrito bowl from Chipotle.
Does anyone else get creeped out by DEAD end signs? I think they should be called something else!
My body is not made for the cold! It took me 2 miles to warm up and I only had 3 miles on the schedule for the day!
I love running in the cooler weather, but my calves always feel so tight at first when I run in temps below 80!
Brrrr!
So, a little off topic, but today is a really special day. Today is Adam and my 10 year anniversary of being together! We met when we were both going to the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Not soon after we started seeing each other he moved from Orlando back to South Florida where he’s from.
Long distance relationships don’t work right? Especially when the relationship is between two kids, aged 18 and 20, who live a typical college lifestyle! That’s what the haters said anyway! (hah!)
Let me tell you a long distance relationship can work (temporarily) very easily if you have found your soul mate! As corny as that sounds, it’s really true! Adam and I were long distance for a year before I decided to transfer schools and move down to South Florida too.
♫ Ain’t nothing better, we beat the odds together
I’m glad we didn’t listen, look at what we would be missin’
They said, “I bet they’ll never make it”
But just look at us holding on, still together, still going strong ♫
♫ You’re still the one I run to,
The one I belong to,
The one I want for life ♫
Transferring schools and moving to Miami in 2006 was the best decision I ever made.
I get to be with the love of my life everyday, we adopted a perfect cat, I found a city I’m happy to call home and I get to call the 3X champion Miami Heat my team.
LIFE IS GOOD!
Happy anniversary, Adam!
What is “your song” with your significant other?
What is your favorite song to run to right now?
OH – Happy 10 years of knowing each other anniversary!!!
And, love the new certificate!
I can tell I’ve lived in Kansas awhile because I was thinking that 62 would be perfect to run (shorts & tank probably!!). One year we went to TX at Christmas and stayed at my twin brother’s home. It got down to around 60 (we were loving the nice warm temps!) and Tim turned on the heat – I was dying!!!
Author
Thank you! November is a big month in the Allen-Carr household. Our anniversary and our anniversary of adopting Cecil, haha 😉
I did run in a tanktop and was freezing!!! haha
I *wanted* to turn on the heat last night but Adam said that would be silly!
Happy Anniversary – that is a great picture of the both of you on the desk. I also loved that you didn’t poke holes with pushpins through your certificate (well I suppose it would be difficult to do through what looks like concrete walls). Yayy for 60 degees!! Perfection.
Author
Thank you 🙂
I wouldn’t have been able to push pins through it, but I probably wouldn’t have anyway. I’m not a big fan of push pins!
Ahh Happy 10 YEAR to you and Adam! So happy for you guys!
I think Dead End signs should just read: “Turn Around Now”
Author
I like your idea for switching up dead end signs! Turn Around Now is much friendlier sounding!
Happy Anniversary!
It takes my shoes a while to warm up on cold runs. They just feel so still and kind of like bricks for a while.
Author
Thank you!
I didn’t notice a difference in my shoes (prob because 60 degrees isn’t really that cold, haha), but my calves were like stiff bricks!
Wow happy anniversary! Ten years is a L O N G time loo.
Congrats on the certificate, you definitely out it in its rightful place. You know I never looked at that stuff as reminders. It would be easy to say”if I can run 26 miles, I can overcome anything here at work.” Totally good tip, I’m going to try that.
Isn’t it funny how those of us in warm states are like “62* brrr it’s cold” lol. Oh and great name drop with Chipotle, I just might have to go there today.
Author
YES! Exactly! To the left of my certificate is my monitor and to the right is my phone, so if I got an email or call that annoys me I can just glance over and remind myself I have dealt with harder things before! 🙂
Hope you enjoy your Chipotle for lunch! It’s truly a gift from the gods.
Congratulations on your 10-year anniversary!! We celebrated ours earlier this year – it is crazy how quickly time goes by! Our song (which we also danced to at our wedding) was “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis 🙂 Although, I recently heard a Lee Brice song called “I Don’t Dance” that nearly perfectly described the beginning of our relationship. Funny how songs do that 🙂
Author
Happy belated anniversary to you!
That is such a perfect wedding song, I love it! That was my parents wedding song too 🙂
Happy Anniversary!!!! :o) I love that Cecil is in a cat picture frame, that is funny! I have pictures of my kitties all over my classroom. Paul and I don’t have a song. We never did! But, we make up songs a lot. We take the tune of an annoying or catchy song and make up words about the cats. It also usually includes the F bomb, because we are silly like that. Here is an example of a song we made up… using the word freaking instead of the other because I am a lady when I comment.
Sing to the tune of Camptown Races
“Who’s a freaking baby boy? Jelly! Jelly!
Who’s a freaking baby boy? Jelly freaking boy!
Who’s a baby boy? He’s a baby boy!
Jelly is a baby boy, Jelly freaking boy!”
I hope you know the tune of that song so you can sing it. You know you could put Cecil’s name right in there, it would work.
Author
Thank you!!!
HAH! I love that you make up songs about the cats. I make up songs and sing them to Cecil too, but usually to my own tune. I try to tell Adam all the time that I have the gift of music inside of me, but he says my singing voice suggests otherwise 😀
I drop the F bomb on the regular. When Adam and I first started dating he was like, “you curse like that in front of your parents?” I was like, “yes, no one can tame me, I am so wild.” Hah!
Oh I feel better because we curse around the house too!
Happy Anniversary!
The picture of Cecil on your desk is so cute. And Chipotle! hmmm… I was just thinking about what to eat for lunch today!
Author
Thank you! I hope you went to Chipotle for lunch because there is no better option! 🙂
Aw Happy Anniversary!! Rob and I were long distance for our first year and it can totally work if you want it to. And yay for getting your finisher’s certificate!!
Author
I didn’t know you guys did long distance too! Yes, it can totally work as long as you make it work. I remember staying in to chat with Adam online or on the phone instead of going out, taking lots of long weekends to visit him, etc. but those were hardly sacrifices because I wanted to do them!
Awesome certificate. 🙂 Happy anniversary!
Author
Thank you! 🙂
Happy Anniversary! Love the pictures!
We have a Nancy Griffith song which describes the first year of our marriage pretty well (“Three flights up…”)
Author
Thank you!
The song I included in this post isn’t really ‘our’ song, it’s just the one that I think describes our relationship well. Our song is technically “In My Life (I Love You More)” by the Beatles 🙂 I’ve never heard of that Nancy Griffith song before, I’ll need to look it up on Spotify!
I love your little office space devoted to everything you love. I got my certificate too, woot woot!
Happy Anniversary! I think it’s great that you and Adam were able to make it through the long distance. My husband and I lived three hours apart during the first year of our relationship and did A LOT of driving. It made our time together that much more special! Our song is “Feels Like Home” by Edwina Hayes.
Are you doing anything special to celebrate?
Author
Did your certificate have your finishing time on it? I thought it was a little bit weird that mine didn’t as I think they usually do… although I’m not complaining since I don’t exactly want to advertising my time, haha!
Adam and I were exactly three hours a part too! There was lots of juggling work schedules so we could spend long weekends together!
We are just going out to dinner. It’s not a convenient time for either of us to take vacation right now, but I think we’ll do something between Christmas and New Years!
That’s a lovely certificate 😉 Happy day is anniversary day!!!! Congrats on ten years 🙂 I am scratching my head over you felt cold lol I still sweat in 60 degrees. I guess it does feel pretty strange to you! That’s sweet you have a song, we don’t really have one.
Author
Thank you! 🙂
I was FREEZING! Today when I went out to lunch it was 65 degrees and I was shivering!!! haha
Congrats on ten years and that awesome certificate! My husband and I did long-distance across the country when we were 22 and had just started dating; it was tough, but totally worth it.
Author
I am really surprised at how many people have commented saying they also did long distance for a period of time. I don’t know any other couples in “real life” who did long distance! Crazy!
Lots of good stuff in this post, minus the dead end sign (never thought about those signs being creepy, ha ha)! Awesome about the certificate and congrats on your anniversary!
Author
Thank you!
It’s not just the word dead being in there it’s that it’s followed up with end. I mean SO negative! What a downer! haha
Happy 10 Year Anniversary!! What a great milestone! Hope you guys are out right now having a fantastic night out celebrating 🙂
Author
Thank you, Bae! We had a great night. We even got to walk to the dinner place since the weather outside was gorgeous!
The picture of you and Adam is SO CUTE!
We don’t have Dead End signs here, but first time I saw one of those signs in New York I laugued so hard, I was like “whaaat?!” xD American signs are funny *stupid laugh* :3
Belated CONGRATS on the 10 year anniversary 😀
We don’t have a song *sob sob haha* :p
Right now I’m a bit obsessed with “My Address is Hollywood” and “Hello, I love you” – both by Adore Delano. (seriously, you NEED to check out the “hello, i love you” music video, it’s so creepy and cute at the same time haha)
What a cool certificate! I love that you can see that reminder of your awesomeness everyday!
Happy anniversary!!
Also, Florida has had the weirdest weather this week. It ranged from 50 to 77 here. Get it together, Florida!
