Training Update + Giveaway!

Hey there! Today I’m excited to host a giveaway for three awesome smelling body scrubs from Bath and Body Works.

These are honestly some of my favorites. I stopped shopping at Bath & Body Works for a while because their animal testing policy was unclear, but from what I understand they are cruelty free so let’s celebrate with a giveaway!

These bottles all say “not tested on animals” on the back — in addition to just having the prettiest packaging ever.

Good luck!

Now let’s talk about the good stuff: training. This year I am singularly focused on training hard and having one spectacular race. I haven’t decided on which exact race that will be, but it will definitely be a half marathon in November (most likely RnR Last Vegas).

I want to PR and I am intent on doing just that! It’s time to say goodbye to 2:57 when I know I’m capable of so much better.

After talking with my friend Jenny I decided to reach out to her coach for some training advice and an action plan.

I had my best year of running ever when I was working with a coach; I think the accountability and discipline that comes with reporting back to someone is really helpful to me.

Of course training for the half won’t start for a few more months, but I have some work cut out for me when it comes to getting back to the same fitness level I had back in early 2015. And also just the same fitness level I had back in August of last year. It’s hard to believe but it’s been over six months since I’ve even looked seriously at a training plan!

I’ll start officially working with my new coach next Monday, so this weekend I’ll just be running for fun. Then the build begins!

What’s your current favorite bath and body product?
Anyone else thinking about doing RnR Las Vegas this year?
Who has done a RnR race? What was it like?!

Ive done a couple RNR races: Raleigh and Providence. Maybe another one that I cant think of right now? How exciting that you will working with a coach and gearing up to start training again and work towards that PR!

I have done RnR DC and RnR Philly! they put on great events! They pick good routes, and there is lots of course support. Plus the bands along the route are amazing! The only thing is that they are super crowded, and the finisher area gets crowded quickly. RnR races are some of my favorites!

how exciting to have a coach!!

Mrs Schlub always gets hand sanitizer and hand soaps from B&BW. I’m a guy, they all smell great to me lol.

I’ve done RnR Phx and RnR Vegas. The portions of Vegas that are on the strip are amazing. So much energy running down the strip. Luckily the half marathon doesn’t go off the strip too much.

Vegas would be awesome again but with new baby coming that might have to hold off.

I have never done a RnR race…the closest one we have around here is Chicago, I think.

That’s great that you’re working with a coach! I enjoyed working with a coach last year and wish I could work with her for marathon training this year, but I just don’t think I can afford it this time around. It’s so nice having the accountability and having someone who caters your training to your unique needs!

Great news on the coaching! Awesome, girl. I love all Bath & Body works products but right now I am in the process of getting rid of anything that is fragrance or that isn’t all natural (except perfume). I get this on and off rash on my core and I feel determined to get it to go away. Sigh…kind of bummed cuz I love all the lotions and potions and girly smelling things!

I’ve done RnR Philly and loved it!

I’m really excited to see you are focusing your year on one big goal race. That is what I am doing and I’m excited to have another runner along for the ride, so to speak.

But bigger news is B&BW moving to cruelty free. I thought they were sold in China, but it doesn’t look like that is the case anymore! I love their Honolulu Sun handsoap. I really hate when the fragrance of my handsoap lingers on my hands (seriously, no I don’t want to smell pumpkin spice latte while I’m eating pizza just because I thought it was a good idea to wash my hands before dinner). But that scent is very light and non-intrusive.

I’m dying to do RnR Las Vegas. I haven’t planned for that to happen this year, but the fact that is in November makes me want to go even more.

Good luck with your new coach and training plan:)

Good luck with the new coach and chasing that PR! I’m sure you’ll rock it! I ran RnR Liverpool in the UK. It was a very well put on race and was pretty great. Their medals are really pretty too! I ran both the 5K (with my mom) and then the next day the half marathon, so I got an extra medal for doing both races. I thought it was a fun race with lots of great entertainment along the course.

Can’t wait to follow you on your journey!

I am soooooo glad your B&BW products are cruelty free because I know you love them so much! I bought some Tahiti Island Dream spray and lotion about a year ago and it is still going strong. Obviously I don’t wear it every day. Whenever I put it on, I tell Paul I am a Tahitian Princess!

Yeah on the coaching!! I have not run a RNR race. But have you read the book Fast Girl about Suzy Favor? Whenever I think about the RnR Las Vegas race, I think of her and that book!! btw, it’s a great book. Download the audio book for some good listening on your next run!

  16. February 3, 2017 / 12:15 pm

I was considering doing RnR Las Vegas this year because 1) it sounds like an awesome race, 2) I love that it is at night, 3) my sister lives there, so an excuse to go visit her and her family is always appreciated. 🙂

    Mm, that scrub looks yummy!

I’m excited for you to chase a half PR. I know you have it in your and you’re such a stronger runner now than you were when you achieved your first PR!
